I do every so often. It's one of those features that it's nice to know its there if you need it. ;). Like anti lock brakes.

Stupid post. Sounds like the OP is just justifying his Verizon service for whatever insecurities he may have about his service/phone.

I use data and voice simultaneously on my iPhone quite often.

Would you rather have it or not have the option to do so? I never understand the point of these posts. You figure out what you need and want and base your purchasing decision on them. No need to go on a forum to ask.

And having used this feature many times on AT&T, it has become a deal-breaker.

I also use it all the time, I would say almost daily. I don't have wifi at work OR at home. I couldn't imagine it without it.

I don't get all the ****ing ass moaning about this data + voice ********. If you need it then don't move to Verizon. It seems to me that with every announcement made regarding an Apple product causes people to go stupid.

I would rather have the option, than not have it. But I would rather the phone work as a phone first. AT&T in my area it rarely works as a phone.

I am the OP and there are no insecurities. I ALSO use Voice and Data simultaneously. My POINT was that it is rare when I need to do so when not within a WiFi network range. Not that it's not useful.

Then if you don't need it, and Verizon offers you better service, then go with Verizon. It is just the way you stated it, made it look like people don't really use it, when in fact a lot do. I can care less about the Verizon/AT&T wars. AT&T is perfectly fine for me. I don't drop calls and constantly have a good signal. So I don't need to switch. If Verizon is a better service for you, then by all means go with it

i use it all the time....mainly while talking to the gf....she likes to ramble alot, so surfing the net while she goes on is kool LoL. I also use it when im on a call with someone and trying to look up an address or directions, so i get good use out of that feature.

I'll answer your question by asking you a question to see how often you might use it.

How many times have you been out and about (away from WiFi) and taken a call from a business associate or friend (or maybe your mommy) where they mentioned sending you an important email, and they want to know if you got it. I can easily check for them while they're on the line with me. Couldn't do it on Verizon.

AT&T does have this on Verizon, and it's not as trivial to those of us who have hectic professional schedules as you may think.

They also have a MUCH faster 3G network than Verizon, and will be getting LTE very soon as well.

I'm much happier with AT&T than I was with Verizon. I switched about 5 months ago.

I use voice/data simultaneously over 3g very frequently. Also remember it's not just initiating DATA while using VOICE. It's that incoming VOICE kills the DATA connection so anything you are doing DATA wise has to stop when a voice call comes in. I left Sprint and returned to AT&T and this was one of my main reasons for doing so (and luckily have not had the signal issues others have had).

I'd say probably 50-75% of the time my parents call me, I'm out and they are asking me to look at something on the internet, be it a picture, family blog, email they are sending, look at a dealsite and tell them if it's good, etc. etc.

When my wife call's me I'm frequently out and often needs me to look something up for her.

We brothers talk all the time (always while commuting since that time is free) and will frequently ask for opinions on various stuff on websites and then shoot an email of something we are looking at to share, etc.

The biggest pain the ass though on Sprint? Was when I'm driving for work and the wife calls, so whatever 3G app I'm using, be it pandora, googlemaps, etc, STOPS WORKING until I'm off the damn phone. Screw CDMA.

Verizon is the only carrier I haven't used so maybe I'm missing some golden signal reception, but I doubt it.

I do it everyday no lie...when talking on the phone with my gal and she's just yapping away I search for apps, I look at the map app while on the phone to confirm my route...I love that I can download music OTA on iTunes while I'm on the phone also...it's really a convenience you can only appreciate if you have the ability to do so

Same here. I can't imagine not being able to go online while stuck talking to my gf.

As i understand it, if you're using data, calls go straight to voicemail. Correct me if i'm wrong. I think that's a much bigger issue than being on the phone already and then not being able to look up movie times while on the phone.

Most iPhone customers are going to be playing around using data often. If the call could somehow interrupt, and take the place of the data, i think it'd be fine. But if using data keeps calls from coming through all together, that's a problem.

I use 3G data and voice a good bit. I only have wifi coverage when I'm home. There are many times I'll be on the phone and go look something up real quick. I'm also a bit nervous about CDMA as I had a problem missing calls with my Blackberry when I was with Sprint. The voice didn't take priority and just pushed the call to voice mail. I've heard from many that this isn't really an issue now.

Voice has priority so what should happen is the data will stop and the call would come through.

I would never do with out it. Get too many calls during the day asking if I got the email. "let me check" Also receive importatant texts while on the phone.
Being able to use navigon while on a call when driving.

Could never get used to not being able to use both

I travel a lot and I am usually not on decent wifi, so I use this feature quite a bit. I use it while I'm driving and talking/routing a map, I use it when I'm at work, and I have to download the email that was just sent to me. I work out of a car and I have to have constant access to email. I use my iphone for nearly everything I can possibly think of, and I'm constantly using up to my allotted 2gb per month.

It's a feature that really is a deal breaker for me. I am in the cell phone industry, so I understand when something doesn't work right. You asked for people to be honest, and when they were, you harangued them. If you're not going to read people's statements, then don't make threads like this.

There are only two things that stop me from switching:

1) Verizon's much slower 3G speeds and 2) no roaming (I travel a lot).

Couldn't care less about Verizon's "Most reliable network" slogan. AT&T are just as bad/good. Seriously.

Please honest answers only.

How often do you use voice and data simultaneously when you're NOT connected WiFi network? Think about it. Because 99% of my day, everyday I'm at work or home or a friends house and all three have WiFi.

I am on Verizon with a Droid X and I very comfortably use data and talk at the same time anytime I need to. The only time I'm not near a WiFi network is when I am driving and when I am driving, I am not surfing the web, especially when on a call.

AND to top it off, if you are an Optimum or Time Warner customer, it's likely there is free wifi for your entire county.

I do not think the lack of this feature is a big deal with WiFi literally everywhere. Especially a feature that isn't really used that often to begin with. Look at the commercials Apple has produced. NONE of them are real life situations.

Sorry, but AT&T has nothing but this one teeny thing on Verizon. And this teeny thing doesn't matter to many people, again, because of WiFi.

I've used it a few times on 3G and I'm glad I had the feature. But if I were debating on an AT&T or Verizon iPhone, it wouldn't make much difference for me. Pricing and coverage is what matters to me more. But I will say that I am glad that I could do it, because it was very helpful the few times I used it.

ive had both and now im back with ATT.

I've used the feature about once on the iphone and once when I had the bb9700.

I can say that the internet/data speeds on verizon, seem much slower than ATT, which is pretty fast.

Think about it this way.

Both my two cars (Audi and VW) have A2DP streaming in their BT systems and whenever I'm in the car, Pandora is my #1 source of music. I leave the iP4 plugged in and let it stream. If I did this on a Droid, I couldn't receive calls or receive send/texts, which is exactly what a phone is for. Plus I'm on a HSDPA network so my speeds (on average) are 4-5 times faster than VZW.

I'm saying with AT&T, no thanks VZW

I have been looking up move times, looking up order numbers in emails, and plenty of other things that I wouldn't be able to do when I'm out and about.

Hmm... I am under the impression, at this point, that you can receive calls while using data, but you cannot use data while on a phone call. Big distinction, there.
