For what it's worth, i have over 11,000 Watts in my 96 sport Jeep Cherokee. 8k going to 2 18" subs, and 3k for Mids and highs, 6 8" mids and 2 super tweets. Rms, not peak wattage. My Jeep sounds extremely musical, no distortion. Point is, high power =/= distortion.

I realize that it is possible to have power and great quality sound if all the components are of high quality and they are matched well. That is what Apple should have done. Sound should be balanced on iPhone X at all settings. If the speakers can’t handle that max volume, then lower the max volume via software.

MacBooks already do this and there are apps out there that push the speakers to their Mac albeit at the cost of distortion.

No iPhone X's yet in our house, but we are having strange connectivity problems with iPhones 6 and 6S when on our WiFi Time Capsules (in 2 different locations).

(Note the issues below happen with FaceTime Audio calls, video version has not been tested.)
1. Phone often drops WiFi in favor of 4G connection and then does not switch back (this is in addition to a long standing problem of a phone on a 4G FaceTime call refusing to switch over to the home TimeCapsule upon arriving home.)

2. Even when phone stays on the WiFi, it has interruptions that disrupt the conversation to the point of making it pointless and confusing. One must turn off the wifi switch in control center to force a 4G connection that then functions.

3. The problems don't always seem to present when I am called rather than calling. The same problems don't appear to be present when I call from my iPad.

Anybody else experiencing this?

I have a similar issue, but have not found a solution to this, which is frustrating! I have Airport Xtreme, iPhone 6S Plus, iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen.

My issue (rare, not often) is when I am on WiFi, I am not actually connected for some strange reason (tested using safari) so I use 4G instead for few minutes then switch back and the issue is resolved. This could be an iOS 11 issue, like with any major iOS update, you will need to wait for a fix. I advise you that in the future do not update until the major update is stable. Please note that I do not follow my own advise lol

Just because you can turn it up to 11 does not mean that you should turn it up to 11.

So if a bridge or a boat says maximum 11 people, you would expect it to be very unstable and not really suspect it should function correctly with that number of people?

For any such product, any function should always be well within the actual capacity of the physical item.

In a speakers case, it should be able to run at your 11, as it's been built to function up to say 15 or 16 before any damage/failure would occur

I had it, and I panicked, however, I was testing the phone prior to putting the protective glass, and had the phone in its original packaging plastic, when I recorded the Motion Emoji, I had the cracking sound recorded over my voice, I have tried it few times same thing, but when I removed the plastic, it all went away, I think it has something to do with the 3D projector on the front face. When I looked at it thru Infrared Filter it actually blinks couple times a second, on par with the cracking in the recording.

Wouldn’t cover crackling on non X devices. :apple:

I have this as well. Most noticeable on calls with speaker phone on volume at max.

Also, those people saying that you shouldn’t turn your volume all the way up are out of touch with reality and sound so ridiculous. It’s laughable.

Not sure if this is a serious comment, but if it is, why would Apple (or any other manufacturer) give an option to switch it up to '11' in the first place if it's beyond it's capability?

Apple have all the control they need to cap the volume if it's not intended to be used beyond that point.

I knew this was problem soon after unboxing. Yes the speakers where loud but the top one sounded crap. Tried to tell myself it was ok as I didn’t want to start this nonsense return cycle. Fact is compared to my 7 plus that I have just tested it against there is clearly a problem with the X too speaker. Even watching some videos, dialogue on the X even at 70% sounds booming and cracking whereas the + is clear even at 100%

Aside from listening to music, The cracking Likely would be noticeable for speaker calls if you had the volume up. That I would find annoying, because I use my speaker phone for almost all my phone calls.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but I can't think of anyone that enjoys talking to anyone on speakerphone. It's awful. That's what bluetooth headsets (and AirPods) are for, unless you're doing a group business call.

But regardless, it should not be crackling. That's an easy software fix though.

This phone has been nothing but issue after issue since it's unveiling. Honestly, it just comes across as a cheap Chinese Galaxy knock off at this point. Especially with that horrendous display intrusive notch. It's still shocking that Apple users have accepted such a horrible design feature. These are the same users who have for years touted Apple's smart and practical designs. How can anyone continue to make excuses for this extremely overpriced device. Consumers need to expect much more and much better from any OEM when handing over their money, or they just end up ruining it for the rest of us. By that I mean, the OEM realizes they can put their brand on any piece of junk and sell it because of the blind follower they have locked in ready to buy no matter what. SMH.

OK, I will take the bait... yuck! (spits the bait).

Looks like you need better bait. Keep trolling...

I probably am watching more video via the speakers but even it sounds crap at high volume.

Is it software related but? No everyone has the problem it seems. I think it’s hardware sadly.

The only reason I like talking on the speakerphone, is I find it much easier to have the phone Stationed versus having to the phone hold up to my ear. I Always use my speaker phone and the steel speakers make it loud enough where I can hear someone from if my iPhone is docked. Unless I am in a position where I don't want somebody to hear my conversation, I hold it up to my ear. I just find it more convenient versus than Actually enjoying it.

can I ask what equipment you play at max volume?
What if the person is in a situation with loud background noise?
Shouldn't they be able to turn volume to max without issue?

Not clear why some are jumping on the "i never turn up my volume to max" or "why do you need to turn the volume to max".

Both comment and question are irrelevant.
Seems like a cop out.

During a phone call the phone speaker should be able to go to max . That I agree and I've done that . Watching a movie , no.

That's not the angle I'm coming from, I've got lots of high end audio equipment, and I've never seen the need to turn it up to max, actually while my gear does not distort , it's far too loud to be enjoyable .

I used to have an iPhone 4S with an earpiece issue which crackled badly when making and receiving calls.

So it’s not a surprise there are some iPhone X handsets out there with similar issues; I suspect it is software related as I encountered something similar in a version of iOS 8 (I think) that disappeared when I upgraded to the next stable . release.

This is the reason they limit supply at launch, so the most loyal Apple users can find all the faults.

Anything I want when I pay 1k for a phone.... and for this price the volume better not Crack at max volume

Should also be durable for £1k right ?

Here is quite a profit margin in that :) speaker may distort and glass might break

Try to remove that transparent plastic wrap before.

Is that serious ?
