Just because you consider it average, surprisingly not everyone will share your opinion, I certainly don’t. /SNIP/

Personally, having owned and used the X for almost two weeks now I’m delighted with it. (Of course you are).

And yet that poor, poor Apple, after all that costly R&D have amassed US$ 238 BILLION in cash. A large part of this because of the incredible margin on iPhones which no-one is forcing us to buy :) Peace brother!

We've had issues like this before. Personally, I try to avoid putting the volume up to the max because when you do so, the risk of audio distortion increases.

Could not have made a better decision when I returned mine on the next day. My 7 Plus is flawless and the screen size is perfect.

The fanboys will be deaf to any issues and no product from Apple is too expensive for them.
I have been loyal to Apple phones since 3gs but have to say this X model is totally underwhelming. I've always been excited to receive a new model but this time not at all. Due my upgrade from 7plus in a few weeks time and honestly don't know which model to get.
Had a look at X in store today and it seems small and akward. The design is not beautiful to my eyes - even the much touted screen was a bit "meh" as it looks so narrow next to a plus model.
Do I feel it is worth £1000? No way.
Hate the thick look. Hate the glass back which is only waiting to be broken. Hate how small it is.
I was expecting to have a wow moment seeing and feeling it for the first time but sadly it is the first iPhone model i really hate the look and feel of. And i hated the antenna bands of 6 but nothing as much as the X! I wish they had made 8+ with an amoled screen and face recognition.
And with news of one fault after another...Oh boy...Samsung starts looking like an attractive alternative.

This phone has been nothing but issue after issue since it's unveiling. Honestly, it just comes across as a cheap Chinese Galaxy knock off at this point. Especially with that horrendous display intrusive notch. It's still shocking that Apple users have accepted such a horrible design feature. These are the same users who have for years touted Apple's smart and practical designs. How can anyone continue to make excuses for this extremely overpriced device. Consumers need to expect much more and much better from any OEM when handing over their money, or they just end up ruining it for the rest of us. By that I mean, the OEM realizes they can put their brand on any piece of junk and sell it because of the blind follower they have locked in ready to buy no matter what. SMH.

Yes it is incredibly unusual for a company to want to turn a profit. If every company could do what Apple does, they would, make no mistake of that. They just can’t. And that huge stockpile of cash has very little if anything to do with the iPhone X, it’s just released. That stockpile of cash is largely due to every other iPhone model made. Which then by proxy are all also overpriced. Which they probably are in the grand scheme of things. Though it will depend on your definition of value and how far that extends beyond the physical object.

The iPhone X is no different to any other iPhone when it comes to the profit margin. With everything accounted for it’s still estimated to be around the traditional 40% for Apple products. It just costs more to make and develop. Hence the higher price.

Sure they could have taken a hit and lowered their margins to put the device out at a lower price point. But that just doesn’t sound like Apple. It’s why there’s an 8 and an 8 Plus rather than just a X and X Plus. They’re putting out devices to cover different price points.

So yeah, it’s not cheap really, but we all have different perspectives on value.
Would I complain if the X were a hundred bucks cheaper. Hell no, who would. But as you so rightly say, Apple have amassed a ridiculous stockpile of cash. They have done so by producing products people want to buy.

Only an idiot would buy something that doesn’t offer them some form of tangible benefit. Or at least so I would hope. These devices are luxury products. They are entirely non-essential, not when there are cheaper products that could fulfill most of, if not all of, the same functions.
No regular consumer has to own an one, we do so by choice and I’d like to think that most people will do so after weighing the pros and cons.

So no, you might like to mock a point which is undeniably true. But at the end of the day it’s still true, nothing can change that. No-one is forcing anyone to buy anything plain and simple.

6 plus to 8 plus was a wise move for me.

Definitely a good move, you’ll be noticing a huge difference in performance already no doubt and that’s before all of the other benefits.

My 6 Plus was definitely showing it’s age before I got rid of it.

“Like the green lines affecting some iPhone X displays, this is an isolated issue affecting a very low percentage of the millions of devices being manufactured.”

How can Macrumors make such a definitive blanket statement like this? Have they personally inspected every single one of the millions of Xs that were manufactured and determined that this issue is affecting a “very low percentage.” This is irresponsible journalism and it shows just how deep up Apples ass these writers are.

The Apple rep was looking at me in disbelief that I was returning the x. All the while multiple people came in looking for one as I was returning it. Lol

I have no noticable hissing or distortions even with bass & trebble heavy electronic music at max volume which when held within 8 inches of my face is uncomfortably loud indoors.

I have had my iPhone X 256GB Silver A1865 (Verizon/Sprint) since launch day.

A limited but increasing number of iPhone X owners claim to be experiencing so-called "crackling" or "buzzing" sounds emanating from the device's front-facing earpiece speaker at high or max volumes.

Over two dozen users have said they are affected in a MacRumors discussion topic about the matter, while similar reports have surfaced on Twitter and Reddit since the iPhone X launched just over a week ago.

On affected devices, the crackling sounds occur with any kind of audio playback, including phone calls, music, videos with sound, alarms, and ringtones. The issue doesn't appear to be limited to any specific iPhone X configuration or iOS version.

"Love the phone but I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the speakers slightly sounding a little crackling whenever max volume," said one MacRumors forum member with the alias ShadowYYZ. "Noticeable on certain songs and even my ring tone which was bought from the iTunes Store."

For those unaware, the iPhone X's earpiece doubles as a speaker that combines with the traditional speaker at the bottom of the device to deliver stereo sound. Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 series also have stereo speakers.

MacRumors hasn't been able to reproduce the issues described. Apple didn't immediately respond to our request for comment on the matter.

While the sounds could be the result of distortion, especially since they occur at higher volumes only, several users are convinced that there could be a bigger software or hardware issue affecting the earpiece.

"I listen to a lot of music on the speakers of the iPhone X and I noticed the slight crackle right away," replied another MacRumors forum member who goes by the username Benz63amg. "Since so many of us seem to experience this crackle then my assumption is that it's software related rather than hardware."

A few months ago, several iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus owners experienced a similar "static noise" issue with the earpiece during phone calls. Apple acknowledged the issue and fixed it in iOS 11.0.2.

Since the crackling sounds on iPhone X don't appear to be limited to phone calls, it's unclear if the issues are related.

Apple has been replacing affected iPhone X units free of charge, according to customers who contacted the company. Apple also appears to be collecting diagnostic information so that its engineers can investigate the matter, as it routinely does with any potential software or hardware issues.

Like the green lines affecting some iPhone X displays, this is an isolated issue affecting a very low percentage of the millions of devices being manufactured. The majority of iPhone X owners do not appear to be affected.

If you experience this problem, we recommend booking a Genius Bar appointment with the Apple Support app or contacting Apple via phone, email, online chat, or Twitter to have your iPhone X replaced. Apple is known for providing good customer service, and it is often genuinely helpful in these situations.

I keep expecting my X’s speakers to crackle/distort because of how loud they get at max volume, but they absolutely do not.

Now I’m kind of scared that Apple will roll out an update to gimp the volume of all phones just to cover up the hardware flaws of the phones affected.

It's called supply and demand. There are millions of people all around the world checking their emails wondering when they will receive the iPhone x. Actually Apple could probably jacked up the price another hundred bucks per unit and still sell just as many as they are now. Most of the people who come here to bash apple and iPhone owners are jealous as they can be because they don't have the means to obtain one. I still have my iPhone 6 and it works as good as the day I bought it which was the first day they went on sell. It's time for me to trade up. I haven't made up my mind whether I will order one this week or wait another couple of months until they become more available but I will be buying a iPhone X.

yall expecting way to much out of phone speakers. at a high volume it will have a slight distortion they aren't surround sound speakers.

The issue also is that while the speaker is loud, it is a hollow tinny sounds.

That does crack at higher levels where it shouldn’t.

I may return for the 8 plus

Y’aint listening. It’s not just the speakers. It even happens on a phone call. And on blue tooth phone in the car. And on wireless Bose headphones. And to be clear to all- in my case the left speaker is perfect- at hi volumes, treble, base, car, headphones, etc. only one speaker is impacted.

ITT: salty people making themselves feel better about not keeping/buying a X.

I don’t have one either but it doesn’t mean I’m somehow ‘wiser’ than those who do.

Every generation inevitably has its own teething issues without exception. You’d think after 10yrs people would have registered this concept by now.

It’s not even an Apple problem it’s an unavoidable issue with mass production. Every manufacturing company has it’s own set of stories.
