LOLOLOLOLOLOL! Yeah, those 17 new Hackintoshes have hurt Apple’s computer sales :D

You don't think Apple would want the money from those 17 users? ...obviously there are far more than that, and yes, Apple wants all that money. Apple wants all the money they can get, it's literally their driving function, to make money.

One of the big benefits of an Intel Mac at this point is Windows.. I have a 2014 MacBook Pro that will not be Monterey compatible and a 2012 iMac that wouldn’t run Big Sur. Both of those machines run the most current versions of Windows 10 just fine.
That's just hilarious!

No, Apple’s Mac marketshare is TINY compared to Windows. It’s tiny compared to iPads, even. :) There are millions upon millions of folks that will NEVER own any Apple device and, as long as enough are buying Apple devices that keep them profitable, then they’re fine. Go ahead, enjoy your Hackintoshes. Just remember that for every Hackintosh, there’s likely 100 users that have never purchased a Mac before to replace them.

So, of course Apple wouldn’t mind having that money, buuuuut, they’re good :)

It’s not that an Intel Mac ”can’t” run these features, it’s that they haven’t been written to use these features. Fine with me. Why code a ”good“ version (M1) and a “redundant“ version (Intel)?

Why can't my MacBook Air do these? Yeah, it's chipset may be old, but it *can* do most of these. Hell, my phone can.
  • Live Text for copying and pasting, looking up, or translating text within photos
  • More detailed maps in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and London in the Maps app
  • Text-to-speech in more languages, including Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Finnish
  • On-device keyboard dictation that performs all processing completely offline
  • Unlimited keyboard dictation (previously limited to 60 seconds per instance)

So were you outraged when M1 could run iOS apps? Of course there were some differences, as there should be. This is probably examples of some things can't be done with a x86 processor. So what, you have different level of computing available using the latest intel processors, can run multiple VM's a lot easier, do the M1 users miss that, sure. They have lots of limitations currently.

As Tim said at the 2020 keynote after the Apple Silicon presentation.

"We plan to continue to support and release new versions of macOS for Intel based Macs, for years to come. In fact, we have some new Intel based Macs in the pipeline that we’re really excited about."

If you want to be mad about something, how about over selling the excitement of Apple Silicon with a lack of products. They now have only a year left to produce a lot of equivalent products. Will they? Probably not. The basis of Mac OS X, NextStep's strength was being able to run on multiple processor platforms, Apple has been evolving to repeat that again with these ARM SoC's which will ultimately lead to a lot more flexibility on their computer solutions. Everyone should be glad they taken that route to the future.
I'm really excited about the new Intel Macs that are coming. Really excited.

I think it’s because they’re evil product obsolescence dictators that are out to destroy the lives of everyone that has ever used a Mac? Just guessing.

Your iPhone can?

That's senseless entitlement for a product that released before that date. New features on newer/different hardware shouldn't be held back by older/different hardware an OS also supports

OSes always historically ship features not all hardware the OS supports will have access to; why you expect Apple to make all their OS features be supported by all hardware they sell?

It's illogical once they've introduced supporting CPUs with completely different architecture.
Really? Is that true with Windows and Linux?

Shame. That live text feature would have been really helpful for my work, the others I won't ever bother with them. Maps don't even work in my country. But if this trend continues then i believe I will replace my 2018 MBP much sooner than the expected.
Onenote has done this natively for years and searches text in images. If you have office and it would ve useful paste pics into onenote

As expected…remember those days when your MacBook could last a lot of years? Well… bay bay
We’ll be upgrading macs as often as iPhones…and limited to App Store “apps”…
Welcome to the age of waste

Meanwhile everyone here is still running sierra, but suddenly they have to throw away their mac because they need to OCR snapshots.

My 2017 MBP that I currently have will be my last Macbook. The crappy keyboard turned me off. I have just had too many issues with Macbooks over the last 10 years.

I'm keeping this 2017 MBP until it dies, but will look into something else when that time comes.
What hardware would you consider?

Give me an M Processor that supports 2 monitors.

Like I said. I believe this to be the last Intel Mac OS.

When they start taking features away from Intel Processor Macs and making them ARM only BAD SIGN.

Will this OS let you hook up an External Video Card breakout box on APPLE SILICON Macs??

PROBABLY NOT.

I don't think people who buys base model will do augment reality. I certainly am not one of them.
The issue is people on here were statin the 8GB RAM was plenty and would last people for years to come. Yet not even 2 years after release you need double that for the OS to perform all of it's features.

Only a few people on this forum would swallow that type of garbage and still claim it's a good move.

What happens in the future and you want to try AR? You can't because you can't upgrade the RAM, oh, you need to go and buy another computer.

I really do. It amuses me when people get all worked up when tiny features, that they didn’t even know they wanted 3 days ago, become the most important thing in the world to them, and they go all ******* because products that they were perfectly happy with today won’t get those new features.
The point is with Monterey updates there will be a lot more features that do not work on Intel Macs. It's not just the spinny globe.

This just reads to me like all features they built to use their neural engine.

I know much of this could be done on the intel devices, but why would they bother (or really, should they) when the M1 is the new baseline of Macs going forward?

This is coming from someone who happily uses their 2015 MBP every day.
