No-one's going to know this, but I wonder if the iPod-USB camera adapter will work with the iPad. I have one of those, and my local store is selling them off for $10.

adapter for SD???

If SD Card Support is SO critical that it required the removal of ExpressCard Slots from MBP 13s and 15s, why does this functionality require a special adapter in the iPad???

Rip-off Apple for Government!!!!

Of course 'Rip-off Apple' would never build an SD card slot into the iPad (like everyone else is happy to do!) for fear of not being able to squeeze every last £ out of its customer base, forcing people to the more higher priced memory versions and/or of course, purchase of these adapters! Im quite sure they wont allow peoples existing bluetooth keyboard to connect either ... heavens forbid ... use an existing keyboard when you can pay for 2!!!!

To be honest, Steve Jobs (the face of Apple if all's told) bears an uncanny resemblance to the UK's Labour Party; in that he and Gordon Brown seem intent on giving as little as possible and charging a fortune for it; whilst thinking of more ways to squeeze even more money out of you. Both parties need to start respecting their fan base else pretty soon people are gonna become alienated (as they were with Microsoft ... but me thinks the tide is turning!!!) ;)

I believe that historically new peripherals announced by apple have often missed their initial release date. This is especially true when they are announced in conjunction with a new companion product. Can anyone confirm this?

Are you forgetting this is Apple? Everything is overpriced... I'm surprised people don't understand this yet.

What don't we understand? Folks like you really think you're the chosen ones. Always trolling around telling people Apple is ripping them off. Let me tell you something tr*sh, I'm supporting Apple because no one in the game is doing it up like them. Period. End of. Now go back to you mom's basement and SATFU!

I reserved an ipad to pick up at an Apple Store, so I hope the physical Apple Stores will have some of these accessories on hand when I go to pick it up on April 3rd. But who knows.

Still disappointed neither USB or SD wasn't built it. Those accessories seem an afterthought.

Don't believe for a second those accessories were an after thought, they are nothing more than a money grab.

It's the new Apple: form/design vs. functionality. Glossy Glass on Notebooks/iMacs, and thinness that sacrifices crucial items.

I wonder if people would care that their iPads a 0.5 CM thicker for a USB slot.

When someone finally opens up an iPad don't be surprised to find little room where they could have added more ports or slots.

I think Apple is moving more toward a philosophy that a mobile handheld device becomes a bit less mobile and less handheld with adapters and cables attached to it. While they will offer the accessories, I think they know most people won't need them.

The main reason the video adapter is VGA is because they expect more people to use it for mobile presentations on a projector than hooking it up to their HDTV at home.

The are designing for how they expect people will use it.

what seriously... we were set for International Release at the end of March... UK has been pushed back until the end of April... unbelievable.... i hope they have the case and the Dock so i don't mess my new iPad up at the end of April :D :)

Apple, you used to be cool. Selling a USB adapter instead of building one into the iPad? This is probably the biggest d**k move I've seen from them.

Wow, non-one has ever realised before that Apple kit is expensive. Thank goodness you arrived just in time to tell us all about it. I was going to buy another Mac, but I think I'll go and pick up a Dell instead thanks to your enlightenment.

Do you peruse BMW and Mercedes forums telling them the same thing?

So a Bluetooth keyboard will not work? Was that always the case?

I'm also a little suprised apple would require/allow a dongle to plug in the bottom for camera connectivity and SD Card. I was hoping for a little less "bulky" solution.

A BlueTooth keyboard WILL work with the iPad. I haven't read anything to the contrary? The dock/keyboard combo is just an optional accessory.

I agree about the USB/SD card dongle thing. Not a very elegant solution for an ultraportable device.

The iPad should of course have had a regular USB port and a built in SD card slot. Let's hope we'll get that in iPad 2. *sigh*

It has already been stated that existing Bluetooth keyboards will work. Stop spreading FUD.

If you are like me, you don't miss the optical drive. I haven't needed it on my Air. But that's just me.

lol i don't miss it, just bought one wen i go on trips if i need to install software... but for Apple Geeks accessories are a necessary... the Keyboard Dock is overpriced but i know loads of people will buy them lol

An absolutely ridiculous comparison. An expensive car comes with all the accessories and features required, a cheap car doesn't. It seems to be the reverse for Apple.
Expensive kit is one thing but the heightened cost of accessories for Mac is another thing. One has to wonder if Microsoft pulled the same trick...

[Apple is] forcing people to the more higher priced memory versions and/or of course, purchase of these adapters!

Apple isn't forcing anyone to do anything. If you don't like the products that Apple is offering, then you're totally free to not buy them.

Does anyone know for certain if the "camera connector" is goingto be usable by other peripherals? Ie. Card readers and Portable hard drives? Does anyone know the power spec for the dock connector, does it meet USb specs to power a portable drive?

Just curious really... I'm waiting for the iPad Pro which I expect to have a built in SD slot and USB 3 port.

For those photographers dreaming off off-loading digital photos to iPads in the field I remind you that ignoring that it is unlikly to support raw files or tethered shooting the biggest ipad is only 64GB. For me that means completely empty it'll hold two CF cards worth of photos... After putting normal data (portfolio photos, music, applications) on it that'll mean one 32GB Flash card tops could be off-loaded before it's full. In my case that's one day's shooting... Not much use if I'm away on a weekend shoot. Finally unless there is a way to hook an external hard drive up to backup those photos in the field it's further worthless... Once again waiting for the iPad Pro (128GB and the ability to hook two peripherials up at the same time: card reader and hard drive)

I think a bluetooth keyboard and regular dock, or a stand-up case will be a more comfortable solution. For some reason, the keyboard dock looks like it might feel a bit too close to the screen for me.
