We won't know "for sure" until after they ship. However, your use case sounds like a MacBook (or any other laptop) would be a better fit.Does anyone know for certain if the "camera connector" is goingto be usable by other peripherals? Ie. Card readers and Portable hard drives? Does anyone know the power spec for the dock connector, does it meet USb specs to power a portable drive?
Just curious really... I'm waiting for the iPad Pro which I expect to have a built in SD slot and USB 3 port.
For those photographers dreaming off off-loading digital photos to iPads in the field I remind you that ignoring that it is unlikly to support raw files or tethered shooting the biggest ipad is only 64GB. For me that means completely empty it'll hold two CF cards worth of photos... After putting normal data (portfolio photos, music, applications) on it that'll mean one 32GB Flash card tops could be off-loaded before it's full. In my case that's one day's shooting... Not much use if I'm away on a weekend shoot. Finally unless there is a way to hook an external hard drive up to backup those photos in the field it's further worthless... Once again waiting for the iPad Pro (128GB and the ability to hook two peripherials up at the same time: card reader and hard drive)
Of course 'Rip-off Apple' would never build an SD card slot into the iPad (like everyone else is happy to do!) for fear of not being able to squeeze every last £ out of its customer base, forcing people to the more higher priced memory versions and/or of course, purchase of these adapters!
I do hope so - it would mean you could use a USB keyboard, USB hard drive, USB GPS (if you got the non-G3 iPad) etc. Of course, Apple will probably have locked this down pretty tight.Since the USB camera adapter is essentially a 30-pin USB adapter, can any USB device be used with an iPad? (I'm assuming software limitations have been implemented to keep this from happening, maybe a jailbroken iPad?)
I must have missed this part of the keynote. How exactly does this forcing work? What happens to people who don't want to buy these things? I was under the impression I was completely unobligated to purchase them.

I wonder if we'll at least get Bluetooth Keyboard support on the iPod touch and iPhone (since the iPad will apparently get it).
As long as I'm dreaming, somebody make a pressure sensitive stylus and drawing app for this as well. Oh, and let me attach it to my desktop to use it like a drawing pad, haha. Oh dear... I've gone off topic.

69 for a keyboard?!? Forget that!
I think the best setup is a Dock and the Apple Wireless Keyboard.
I have one too. It's USB 1.0 - sloooooooow......No-one's going to know this, but I wonder if the iPod-USB camera adapter will work with the iPad. I have one of those, and my local store is selling them off for $10.
You mean too close like....a laptop??For some reason, the keyboard dock looks like it might feel a bit too close to the screen for me.
It's disappointing the camera connection kit's missing in action. Maybe they're going to reveal that the iPod adapter will work with the iPad? (but someone bring me up to speed: did the iPod device include an SD reader or USB or, like the proposed iPad kit, both?)
As for the keyboard dock, not of consequence to me: does anyone think that bulky object's gonna be welcome in your backpack? Maybe it's meant for home use only and apple's realized the BT keyboard and case-as-prop will be the logical solution on the road, at least until third party people bring out a better solution. Maybe a folding dock?
The article title gave me a headache.
Not sure why they would have shortages on $5 accessories.
