Since the USB camera adapter is essentially a 30-pin USB adapter, can any USB device be used with an iPad? (I'm assuming software limitations have been implemented to keep this from happening, maybe a jailbroken iPad?)

Hopefully there will be some cheap Chinese connector to hook up your wired Apple keyboard to your iPad or iPhone. Available in your local eBay outlet.

God, getting this thing look like a netbook takes more money and time that you thought!

Does anyone know for certain if the "camera connector" is goingto be usable by other peripherals? Ie. Card readers and Portable hard drives? Does anyone know the power spec for the dock connector, does it meet USb specs to power a portable drive?

Just curious really... I'm waiting for the iPad Pro which I expect to have a built in SD slot and USB 3 port.

For those photographers dreaming off off-loading digital photos to iPads in the field I remind you that ignoring that it is unlikly to support raw files or tethered shooting the biggest ipad is only 64GB. For me that means completely empty it'll hold two CF cards worth of photos... After putting normal data (portfolio photos, music, applications) on it that'll mean one 32GB Flash card tops could be off-loaded before it's full. In my case that's one day's shooting... Not much use if I'm away on a weekend shoot. Finally unless there is a way to hook an external hard drive up to backup those photos in the field it's further worthless... Once again waiting for the iPad Pro (128GB and the ability to hook two peripherials up at the same time: card reader and hard drive)
We won't know "for sure" until after they ship. However, your use case sounds like a MacBook (or any other laptop) would be a better fit.

Of course 'Rip-off Apple' would never build an SD card slot into the iPad (like everyone else is happy to do!) for fear of not being able to squeeze every last £ out of its customer base, forcing people to the more higher priced memory versions and/or of course, purchase of these adapters!

I must have missed this part of the keynote. How exactly does this forcing work? What happens to people who don't want to buy these things? I was under the impression I was completely unobligated to purchase them.

I do hope so - it would mean you could use a USB keyboard, USB hard drive, USB GPS (if you got the non-G3 iPad) etc. Of course, Apple will probably have locked this down pretty tight. :(

I wonder if we'll at least get Bluetooth Keyboard support on the iPod touch and iPhone (since the iPad will apparently get it).

If including them meant raising the price and size of the unit for everyone, even those who don't want or need such functionality, then adding them as a separate accessory means they are only passing along the cost to those who want it. Having said that, it seems odd that there are two separate components to the camera kit... why not have one part that includes both USB and SD card input? What would be interesting is if someone--Apple or 3rd party--creates an add-on that includes a full range of traditional laptop inputs and outputs. If such a thing is even possible.

As long as I'm dreaming, somebody make a pressure sensitive stylus and drawing app for this as well. Oh, and let me attach it to my desktop to use it like a drawing pad, haha. Oh dear... I've gone off topic.

Mine still on time

I order the 3G 64 G version and the case for it.

The case is still listed as shipping by the 3rd and the iPad by end of April.

No delay on the case and no delay on the 3G unit so far.

I'm really interested in what the hackers do with a jailbroken iPad. As it stands, USB/Bluetooth tethering is supported with jailbroken iPhone's, a jailbroken iPad might be phenomenal.

An iPad/writing tablet, what an excellent idea. Jailbroken perhaps, if not available from Wacom?

I like the idea of connecting the camera and do tethering, but I also like the idea of using the iPAD to check focus and adjust the shot using the touch capabilities.

Still waiting for the MagicMouse to become available in retail stores in Australia. Maybe they will be in by the time the iPad launches here.

My preorders are all in except for that camera connection kit. It sounds like it was a last minute no-show. I had talked to Apple sales support the day preorders opened and the lady said that they had just found out that the camera connection kits were not available. i.e. last minute change.

For some reason, the keyboard dock looks like it might feel a bit too close to the screen for me.
You mean too close like....a laptop?? ;) Well there is no mouse. It's a touch screen remember? You don't want it too far away. You gotta be able to touch it.

i'm sorry to be negative, but that keyboard dock for the iPad is the dumbest thing i've ever seen. why not just buy a netbook? ughhhhh the stupidity of that thing makes me crazy.

It's disappointing the camera connection kit's missing in action. Maybe they're going to reveal that the iPod adapter will work with the iPad? (but someone bring me up to speed: did the iPod device include an SD reader or USB or, like the proposed iPad kit, both?)

As for the keyboard dock, not of consequence to me: does anyone think that bulky object's gonna be welcome in your backpack? Maybe it's meant for home use only and apple's realized the BT keyboard and case-as-prop will be the logical solution on the road, at least until third party people bring out a better solution. Maybe a folding dock?

To me the keyboard/dock has got to be viewed as a home desktop accessory.
Too bulky for road warrior duty when a notebook offers the same functionality at a reduced footprint.

The only accessory I'm interested in is the AirStash. Very handy way to expand your storage as you need it, wirelessly.

Not sure why they would have shortages on $5 accessories.

Isn't it obvious?

Apple designed the iPad without these particular ports. They don't want you using them. The shipping has been "delayed" because Apple wants users to get used to using the iPad how they are supposed to, not how they want to.

Would you be able to read PDF files on a USB memory stick, using the adapter?

Are they seriously going to ship the keyboard without anything printed on one button, couldn't they have made it launch safari or something?

None of this matters ...

None of this nonsense really matters ... except to a few bloggers and analysts who need something to report.
