iPhone 14 Pro Max Should I exchange my iPhone 14 Pro Max for a new one?

I think I would be highly annoyed as well, but I wouldn’t return it. Especially with a case on it that would keep me from seeing it. I would forget about it after a while, only recalling it every now and then when something else draws my attention to it. It would be a different case if it was on the screen and was rather noticeable.

That being said, you do you. If it is causing you that much stress to know the scratch is there, then return it. Though do keep in mind, like others have said, the new one will eventually get a scratch as well. You will not have the opportunity to exchange your phone every time it gets a scratch.

I understand OCD pretty well. I deal with it too. Some things get it going worse than others.

Hello. I desire for some advice on wether or not having an exchange for my newly purchased iPhone 14 Pro Max is worth it. I noticed a small minuscule scratch on the bottom left curve of the body. I’m not sure if it was there before I received it in-person at an Apple store or I had done it myself. The only incident I can remember is taking the device in and out of the clear protective case (also purchased from an official Apple store) to clean it. Mind you, I never bumped the phone into anything let alone had any sharp objects nearby (I only handled it softly in my hand). This incident occurred after owning the iPhone for literally two hours, I am not exaggerating. I have an OCD issue that has been giving me immense trouble knowing it is on the phone. I caused much stress for everyone around me because of myself becoming frustrated over it.

I purchased the iPhone on September 28th, 2022. Meaning I am under the 14-days-return-policy.

Below are attached screenshots of a conversation I had with an Apple specialist via iMessage. This person stated I could have the possibility of exchanging the phone for the exact same model in perfect pristine quality.

I have a similar issue, but the fact that it is driving me crazy is what is driving me crazy 🤔. I’ve got a few days to decide to swap it or not (and wait till Jan 2023 for a replacement) The mark on the side of the phone is so small you need to look for it to see it…..but I know it’s there. My iPhone 12 Pro hasn’t a single mark on it. I don’t use a case and I’ve not been that careful with (it’s been in pockets with keys etc) so for a minor blemish on a brand new device is a bit annoying. Very sad about how much of my brain is occupied with something that is so unimportant in the grand scheme of things…

OCD 😉 Mine 14 Pro also have minor damage on the frame when unboxed. Seems like it's very bad coating and when compare do earlier models (especially curved iPhones) and even if you got NIB replacement who knows what kind of imperfections would be there. I'll keep this phone. If you are using case it's not visible, if you're using them without case soon there will be a lot serious scratches. On my iPhone X coating was better for sure.

If you have OCD, upon purchasing your phone place it inside an Otterbox Defender case and never take it out.

Some of you guys need real help, seriously. This is an every day, functional item. It is not a heirloom piece. It does not increase in value.

I honestly can't imagine how you could ever purchase a car, new or used. A car is much more expensive than an iPhone. A used car surely has wear when you get it, and even brand new ones come off the factory floor with imperfections greater than what you're describing here with an iPhone.

I agree, I wish Apple would flag customers who return items like these because people like myself are waiting for their iPhones still and people like this returning over a scratch makes my blood boil

Don’t feel guilty about returning it. Cook doesn’t give a damn about your financial well-being, so why should you care about a multi-trillion dollar corporation?

As profit oriented/greedy as you accuse them of being, you can rest assured that the cost of these returns will impact the prices of phones in the future.

Even a scratch right out of the box is unacceptable when you pay over $1k. And don't they put you to the end of the line anyhow, which I would agree with for cosmetic issues. But they need to put you in the front if it's defective

Just forget it. Or rather get used to it. The stainless steel scratches easily.

I keep saying this, if you have OCD, get the white stainless steel. You know you can buff out the scratch if you want. But since you can - may as well wait till you get some more. Then you realize you have beaten your OCD this time.


We are all a little OCD with new stuff. That first car scratch, that first ding in the car door. BTW: The dent doctor in my area always fixes that up to new condition, so again I don’t fret about dings anymore.

So always get the most forgiving phone for wear. In this case it’s silver/white. But I’m sure most went for the black…
