Are you getting (or do you have) the Ultra?

No Ultra for me. It’s not for me. It’s an amazing piece of tech but I prefer the design of the “Series” watch as a daily watch. To me I would only buy the Ultra for its intended utility rugged purpose not to wear it as a casual or dressy watch and those intended purposes don’t apply to me but if they did, it is absolutely an amazing watch for that! I know a lot of people will disagree with me lol but that is just my opinion and I’m very happy for everyone who is buying it just to dress it up and wear it just for style. Also the watch is a beast on the wrist and becomes the center of attention on the wrist, I’ve tried it on at the Apple Store. I personally think it looks too big/bulky on a lot of people’s wrist but again this watch wasn’t meant to be stylish it was meant to be a utility.

Nice! So you own Graphite, SBSS and Green Aluminum?
Yep, when I found out I couldn’t get Applecare for my out-of-warranty replacement SBSS, I grabbed the Green Al as soon as it first went on sale for $349 - to use for cycling and open water swimming. The display already has scratches; needless to say I much prefer the sapphire glass of the SS models. The refurbished S7 Graphite at $509 was too good to pass up, especially since it’s essentially the same watch as the current SS, and it’s $190 less. Who knows, I might even be tempted by a shiny silver SS at some point in the future to complete the collection - especially with sufficient motivation (improved battery life, killer new feature, etc). 😄

Nice! Creating a solid collection!

I agree, it wasn't meant to be stylish as such but more utilitarian. Though I do think it's a nice looking piece of tech. I'm pretty sure I'm returning it. Now deciding whether to go 41 or 45 SS (Silver, Graphite or Gold 😂). I have thin wrists and my 41mm S7 SBTi was fine, but I secretly wondered if I was worth of the 45. Now that I rocked the Ultra for a couple days, I'm all ginned up to go 45. The problem is 45mm would limit my band choices - for example, the sport loops and the Milanese are too long . Having typed this, leaning 41mm again lol. Thanks for listening 🤣🤣

I think both sizes are great but also get what matches your wrist size. I see so many skinny wrists with huge screens lol it looks so out of balance in my opinion. Most people think bigger is better. I have a 41mm and I love the size, I was never a fan of the 38/40 but 41 to me is perfect. It’s literary one 1mm less than the original 42mm. It does not feel small it just feels right.

One major reason I wouldn’t consider the Ultra is that I prefer the smaller watches on my 175mm wrist. Also, I wouldn’t be able to use any of the 40 bands in my collection, as they only fit 38mm-41mm watches.

Edit: Looks like we were composing at the same time.^^ As they say, great minds think alike! 😄

A fellow 41'er! Yep, ultimately it needs to match my wrist. I get the vibe for having a big watch, but my personal preference is a more subdued look. Very sharp watch and band pairing there! SS Graphite?

SS Graphite indeed. How do you like your SBTi?

I sold it a few weeks ago, but I really liked it. It was dark and low key, but it had a beautiful shimmery finish if you looked closer. Knowing that it was Ti and had DLC made me appreciate it all the more. But this year I want something shinier.

Looking forward to seeing your final decision. Make sure to post photo(s)

Is there a gap in the Ultra when using the legacy watch bands, a gap in the slot where the band slides?

If so, that’d put me off - I could never un-see it.
Yes. Not only is there a gap, but the bands don’t flow with the case like they do with the regular watch series. It’s like mixing two different fonts in one sentence. I would say they work, but they are not compatible. The 41mm bands also work with the ultra if one doesn’t care about looks.
