That's a Thermaltake BlacX N0028USU External Hard Drive SATA Enclosure and yeah, works with both 2.5" and 3.5" drives.

I'm using my TB display with a 1.8 ghz 13" MBA with these devices plugged in;
FW800 HD
2 USB hard drives, daisy chained to each other,
Gigabit ethernet
Creative Labs USB external sound card to external speakers.
iPad/iPhone USB cable
Facetime HD camera

That and the monitor video feed all over one thin TB cable.
Plus of course power from the monitor to MBA.
So only two cables plugged into my Air instead of four.

I eliminated a mess of cables, USB hub, and five power cables from my setup. Even though I have other Macs with more procs and memory I prefer my Air for most things.
Well worth the money and a pretty great setup.

Can you post what USB sound card are you connecting to the back of then display? I'm looking for the same exact piece of hardware.
