Apple doesn't understand that adults occasionally like to watch content with some violence and/or drugs/alcohol and/or sex.

This ain't porn apps in the iOS App Store, it's watching a show where a character can say "****", the world won't end.

Not everyone is my 2 year-old who adores Luna Petunia and Daniel Tiger.

Apple is also going to be releasing a family friendly version of Dr. Dre's new album, it goes something like this "****** yeah ********** you ******** Dre **********". Can't wait!

What exactly does family friendly mean? I assume it’s allowing violence and death so long as you don’t see gore, possibly sex where you don5 see any flesh? What is it that makes it family friendly though?
I think 'family friendly' means LOTS of GUNS are OK(!), shooting people is OK, but sex or even sexual innuendo is 'BAD.'

America's 'Family Values' Motto: Make WAR not LOVE!

Yay for Apple. I can't watch hardly any of the original series on Netflix, Amazon, HBO, or Hulu with kids in the room. We need more family friendly shows that aren't cartoons. There's no need for the gratuitous language and sex that is prevalent in most of these shows.

But who is forcing you to watch these shows with your kids? Perhaps you should stick to the appropriately labeled section "Children and Family" next time you are on Netflix. There are plenty of family friendly shows in that section that are not cartoons. Lets not exaggerate.

I don't understand why people feel the need for Apple to do what we as parents should already be doing? If I do not feel something is appropriate for my kids to watch, I don't let them.

Not against family friendly content, just not exclusively. I want variety. HBO has porn and Seasame Street....

oh dear... this apple tv venture is looking lame before it even starts....another reason Apple should never buy netflix!

There's a lot of ways to create good, even scary and violent, content without having human-to-human violence. Every time I watch a movie that starts with the military waving guns around, I say to myself "Great, another American production! (bleh)". I'm sure that Apple wants to avoid that reputation, and good on them. There's still a ton of great American content, but there is a trend of going too strongly pro-American and pro-guns that ruins the flick.

No freaking way should Apple ever be allowed to purchase ANY content company unless it is something horrible like FOX...or CBS. I would unsubscribe in a minute to any streaming service purchased and controlled by Apple. That would just be the end of all variety.
Look at the App Store: 5 Gazillion games that look like candy/coolaid in some form or fashion, and this 1960's Father Knows Best 'family' mindset. Not all of us CARE what you puritans like. Don't watch programming made for adults if your sensitive natures are upset by realistic fare. Or watch The Disney Channel!

But how do you feel about Apple not buying Waze?

Not every show needs to be edgy.

Amazing Stories was young adult friendly pulp. Let t stay that way.

I love Black Mirror, Game of Thrones, American Gods, Westworld... but let Amazing Stories be the thing it was.

Good to know ahead of time there'll be something I have no interest in, thanks Apple! Time for me to watch the latest Inside No 9, swearing and all.

LOL...I don't care either way...since I rarely drive a car.
But I do watch streaming tv programming. And Apple's Nanny-State approach to media has bothered me for a long time. This is just the newest iteration as they move into video programming. I don't expect an Apple-produced programming will be very interesting to me...or any people who are not Puritans, Mormons, or other 'fundamental' 'Christians.' Yes, I did put those in quotes. I have yet to see any of said religions actually preach AND practice 'love.'

I absolutely agree. The idea that sex and violence are essential to make great art is proved wrong in endless great TV shows and novels of the past.

This!. The problem with today's entertainment is that either it is sex and violence, or it is boring. There are no storytellers anymore. This applies to both music and video. The current crop of producers are for the most part lazy and formulaic.

The push for family-friendly content is honestly one of the things I am most proud of Apple for championing right now. Somebody has to, after all.

The point should be that Apple should provide what you want, but not force it on everyone like me. Of course, for the most part Apple is Apple's way or the highway. No choices anymore. That is my objection.

As much as my wife and I do like ST: Discovery (well, she feels it lacks the ST ethos) we remember watching Star Trek as a family and it wasn't like ST didn't touch on some adult topics. I'm not advocating all entertainment be "family friendly" but I think Apple's going for a hug untapped market.

I agree-- given today's cable trend toward increasingly "adult" content, the "family friendly" market could really use a big hug.

I mean, they partnered with HBO to be the first place HBO Now was available.

Compton: A Soundtrack debuted on Apple Music.

You can buy eyes wide shut or criterion robocop on itunes.

So, I don't really get the argument. Apple wants Amazing Stories to be family friendly so therefore they are denying your god given right to see an adult-themed amazing stories and therefore apple is trying to censor everything?

This doesn't add up.

Everyone who keeps saying Apple should buy Netflix or Disney, WHY? Why would you want to reduce competition and increase the power of one of the most powerful companies on the world? The last thing I was is more corporate mergers, I want more competition. Apple should focus on making the best device for me to access media from as many sources as possible. I paid a major premium over the other set top boxes for my apple TVs because I felt that was their plan. No need to have a hand in every market.

What you don't want to see is "reality".

That is somewhat true. I don’t want to see some things people do. But TV isn’t reality. Reality TV especially proves that. It is the most staged thing ever. Reality would be things like a twenty minute care ride, not a twenty second of one. Reality would be people spending fifteen minutes eating or going to the bathroom. The gritty realism of modern TV isn’t real at all. So I’d much prefer to see idealized TV versus fake ‘reality’.

"Kiss me and I'll be yours forever!"

I'm with Apple on this. Amazing Stories was a big part of my childhood. There's so much great adult oriented content already out there and I don't have nearly enough time to consume even just the AAA stuff. I like the idea that my boy will have a chance to get into a new Amazing Stories of his own! If you want to make it adult, then create your own new IP - Amazing Stories was always meant for younger audiences.

This just reminds me of Deadpool not being allowed in Disney.

Just doesn’t fit in the established branding.

Don’t like it? There’s universal studios(Netflix, prime video, the news, world star, adultwebsite.com) down the street.
