No need for a flash. No one sane takes pictures with iPads.

That is not true. The iPad camera is pretty okay. The lens/viewfinder size ratio is the best of all cameras available. ;) The onboard video (!) editing software is the best/fastest of all mobile OS.

PS. Just would like to have that quick camera access button on lockscreen like on iPhone.

I will be buying 2 iPad 5. But I must admit I think I would really enjoy front facing speakers and a landscape camera. I teach and video call from the road a lot with my current iPad 3. I don't like the way you have to hold the iPad to video chat. There's a reason laptops put the camera where they do. But I do realize that my 2 "wants" are just personal preferences.

Why not? The other day I sat in the garden with my family and the kids were doing funny things, so I grabbed the iPad to take a few photos. It was a nice experience to have the big display as viewfinder.

Aren't they worried about the iPad 5 cannibalizing the mini now? Take that mini

Nope. Cook has said on several occasions that they aren't worried about internal cannibalization. Just external (ie other companies like the Samsung Galaxy). Although they still refuse to design to 'kill' the other boys. They focus on making the best whatever, ignore what the others are doing if they feel it is cheap tricks or not really mature tech. And so far it is working pretty well

I do it. I don't hold it up in the air like an idiot but I use my iPad when it is what is in my hands. So I wouldn't object to a flash, better light sensors etc.

----------

Yeah, but it is probably a reject. iPad 5 will definitely carry Mini styling.

Or it won't.

Mmmmh - the long side seems to have ventilation slots cut into it. Hopefully the iPad isn't inheriting iMac heat problems due to being overly thin! :(

Depends. I wonder how other people at Apple felt about SJ's absolutely no stylus rule.

If by No Stylus you mean Apple wasn't going to make it themselves. If by No Stylus you mean what Steve actually said which was that unlike the phones/tablets that were out, the iPhone (and later iPad) would not REQUIRE a stylus for use thus ending the whole 'charge a small fortune to replace because folks lost the thing and now their whatever is a pretty brick til they get a new one' and similar.

Then I suspect Apple is just fine with it.

For the record if Steve had really said 'absolutely no stylus' as claimed, Apple wouldn't have a half dozen or so stylus patents filed and received. Most of them filed when Steve was alive and at Apple

----------

Wish they would face the speakers to the front.

That is part of the reason why I am not buying this hook, line and sinker. I can't imagine Apple hasn't gotten crazy complaints about the speakers on the 1-4 full sized.

----------

Taking the perfectly finger-friendly iPad interface and adding pressure sensitive pen support specifically for art and note use would make a lot of sense.

What they need to go with that is a screen with smaller touch points so you can have more precise lines. If they had that you could use a lot of the 'plain' stylus or even a finger and have better writing.

Why not? The other day I sat in the garden with my family and the kids were doing funny things, so I grabbed the iPad to take a few photos. It was a nice experience to have the big display as viewfinder.

On a recent vacation, the family and I took a day trip to the big attraction, local aquarium. I lost count of the number of people, in a very crowded place, holding up iPads to snap all the family photos, and pics of the fish/animals. At one point, along the big glass wall of the otter habitat, there were four people holding up iPads taking videos. All muscling their way to the front and completely blocking everyone's normally partially blocked view.

VERY annoying.

Oh please no.

Let us not enoourage people holding up their ipads to take pictures.

They do that just plenty without a flash. But in truth what is the big deal. If they aren't shoving it up in your face or up at a concert blocking everyone, who really cares. Yeah it looks dumb but why should that concern anyone. Folks look rather dumb and act annoying with DSLR etc all the time

I've never seen the inside of an iPad, but couldn't those be for the Smart Cover magnets?

Can't await using all the high quality music apps with the iPad 5 and iOS 7 Inter-App Audio wave streaming. And playing Asphalt 8: Airborne of course! :D

Apple's fifth-generation iPad is expected to launch as soon as next month…

If this is not true you're getting serious problems with me, :apple: MacRumors! ;) I won't believe anything any more in any future.

The iPads are the best consumer level hardware I ever had. Besides the iPhones and the MBPr of course…

Those are not vents. They are purposefully machined indents as part of the structure of the device to allow parts to be mounted and/or reduce the weight of the device wherever possible.

Let's not create FUD.

Not yet sold. although the no bezel look is more modern, I need the bezels to hold!
The A6 is super fast, and the retina display is as good as ever...I wonder what 'killer' feature this new one will have

It would be nice if they focused on NITS and not shaving off a little of the size. Size is already fine and not a huge issue.

Sunlight viewing is a big issue....

We're entering an era where software and services are the killer features of new devices. There will always be progress on the hardware front, but it is unreasonable to expect generational gains with each release.

Oh well, into the 5th version and still no speakers on others end of the device, so you can enjoy stereo in games, TV and movies without using headphones, unlike some other brands that have thought about this.

Shame. Always next year I guess. Wonder just how long Apple will stick to this, and dig their heels in like the 1 button mouse.

No one sane says that no one sane takes pictures with iPads.

Decent camera, very powerful processor and big screen for photo editing, perfect for taking pictures and editing them on the go.

If other companies get praise for "stunning new designs" based on older Apple products, why can't Apple?

Haha, nice one. I hope that was a joke, right?
