So you need a flash for video?

----------

Samsung and others design their tablets around a landscape view. Apple designs around portrait orientation.

But......................................

You really would in general only benefit from the stereo effect in most games, esp FPS ones, and naturally TV and Movies and it is in these instances the two speakers would be perfect so the sound is not just coming from one side.

If you are using in portrait mode, then the second speaker is just a bonus, and Apple could easy easy just turn both speakers to mono in portrait mode if they wished, which would just give more volume/better quality? than we have now.

I expect they will eventually, they are just being typical Apple obstinate at the moment as they have over many issues in the past, until their hand has almost been forced by the competition.

How is that the rear shell? The logo is wrong, and very poorly cut-out.

You do realize that you look at the logo from the inside, don't you?
It's cut out bigger on the inside so it doesn't fall out when you are holding your ipad screen up.

Yeez people, it's not like they fix that Apple logo with a strap of tape on the inside..

Looks very nice, if it's the real device. If I didn't like the iPad mini's form factor better, I'd almost consider getting iPad 5.

That is not true. The iPad camera is pretty okay. The lens/viewfinder size ratio is the best of all cameras available. ;) The onboard video (!) editing software is the best/fastest of all mobile OS.

PS. Just would like to have that quick camera access button on lockscreen like on iPhone.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who uses the iPad (mini) camera. And, iOS 7 brings the quick camera access to iPad's lockscreen. :)

but how thick is it? thinner than the current ipads rear shell? I sure hope so, the ipad feels ancient to hold compared to the ipad mini just due to the thickness, bezel and weight

Look at the pictures... It appears to be about the same thickness as an iPhone 5.

I'm calling BS on your comment, because I can see holes in the corners and down the right hand side. They aren't as big as the ones by the lightning port. but they still are there. btw, don't forget they'll be using glue instead in some places to keep it light and thin.

Glue isn't much lighter than screws... :s

Why not? The other day I sat in the garden with my family and the kids were doing funny things, so I grabbed the iPad to take a few photos. It was a nice experience to have the big display as viewfinder.

Yeah, that's okay.. but has nothing to do with a flash. Most people are too stupid to use the flash right anyway... best way is to turn it always off, it just ruins most pictures, unless you really take closeup pictures in low-light situations. But people taking pictues with flash in e.g. a church is just retarded.

That has nothing to do with them having iPads. That is simply that they are self centered, rude and tasteless. They would have stood up etc with any camera and been a nuisance.

A smartphone camera would have been much less annoying as they obviously take up for less space.

The solution should have been for the school, given they were filming it for free to 100% ban cameras. To post signs etc that no cameras of any kind are to be used. With a penalty posted if you are caught. Say $500 an incident and your students final transcript and diploma will be with held until you pay it. Most schools hand out empty holders anyway in case someone doesn't show at the last minute so it would be easy to keep the paperwork

College age students are mostly not minors. A university cannot legally withhold a transcript or a diploma for something a parent does like this--regardless of who is paying tuition. I think a $500 fine is a bit steep. I would be happy with a sign saying no tablet photography and an usher asking anyone using one to put it away.

I've been waiting for this iPad ever since I first used the iPad Mini. Hopefully it's released before the end of September so I can buy it for my 21st birthday.

Except that the real issue generally isn't the camera but the body of the person standing up to take the photo

They can if they make it clear that it is the students responsibility to make sure their parents keep their butts in their seats. My own school did this. There was limited seating in the main area in front of the stage so they used tickets. We had to sign a code of conduct agreement which stated very clearly that it was our responsibility to make sure whomever we gave the tickets to behaved properly or we would be the ones fined etc.

And it's not too high of a fine given at the point is to make sure parents keep their butts in seats. All an usher is going to do is be one more person blocking views etc AFTER the damage of the parent standing up has been done.

And a mere sign with no punishment does nothing, the self entitled crowds don't believe those signs are for them

That is part of the reason why I am not buying this hook, line and sinker. I can't imagine Apple hasn't gotten crazy complaints about the speakers on the 1-4 full sized.

i think youd be surprised at the number of (or lack thereof) speaker complaints. nobody in my family has ever cared about the speakers.

No need for a flash. No one sane takes pictures with iPads.

I take pics with my iPad all the time. I have grandkids and they absolutely love to have me take pics and videos with my iPad so they can see them immediately on a big screen. We even actually use PhotoBooth sometimes. I even took it to the beach last year (I was waiting on a Skype call from my husband who was overseas) and I took a bunch with it then. Worked just fine.

I'm old enough to not worry what others think about me. We have an absolute ball with it. If my family is enjoying it then I'll do it and the rest of the population can stuff it.

Not yet sold. although the no bezel look is more modern, I need the bezels to hold!

thin bezel in idevices isnt a modern look -- it's the result of new software doing better palm & thumb detection and reducing the need for it.

It would be nice if they focused on NITS and not shaving off a little of the size. Size is already fine and not a huge issue.

after using the mini this past year i have to disagree -- the bulky size of the full is what stops me from picking it up and using the mini instead.

The problem is in crowded venues more and more people are using iPads to take pictures even though they have a better camera and their much less obtrusive smartphones.

I was at a university commencement recently where the hysterical relatives of the graduates were standing up in their seats with their iPads above their heads trying to get a video of their child. The first row of such self-centered people successfully blocked the view of everyone behind them. This is despite the fact that the entire ceremony including the walk was being professionally recorded, streamed live, and them made available for free download.

I think that we will start seeing tablet photography--and perhaps tablets themselves banned at certain events and venues as a result. Come the day.

Like standing up and using a phone or camera wouldn't block your view? Come on...it's not the iPad blocking your view but their bodies. Same thing happens all the time when people just use their phone. It's rude - period. But using the iPad isn't the reason.

Oh well, into the 5th version and still no speakers on others end of the device, so you can enjoy stereo in games, TV and movies without using headphones, unlike some other brands that have thought about this.

if youre watching movies or playing games w/o the headphones on, any stereo effect youd get on the built-ins is minimal and moot. not even worth worrying about. it's akin to complaining about the built-ins on your TV set.

Wonder just how long Apple will stick to this, and dig their heels in like the 1 button mouse.

the Mac has supported multi-button mice for a long, long time. apple just shipped w/ a single-button mouse -- nothing stopped you from using another mouse, which is akin to using headphones on the ipad.

No I argue it's the other way around.
They didn't reduce the bezel because the software detects thumbs..
they made the software detect thumbs as a workaround for the reduced bezels.

It's purely cosmetic/cost saving/weight saving/size reduction. And I argue it's not efficient.
