Managed to reserve the 64 GB SG model. Wanted the 128 gB model but apparently my local apple store didn't get any of that capacity in stock even though I did it right at 8 am. And looks like I'm just utilizing around 15 GB of space so 64 GB will be plenty. Oh well. 64 GB is plenty for me, as I have 128 GB iPad mini 4.

A few people have reported having issues getting Verizon to activate an AT&T model. The SIM free model is white listed for both Verizon and Sprint, so supposedly that shouldn't be a problem.
If last year is any indication, Verizon and Sprint will whitelist the other carriers' phones soon. Happened shortly after the launch of last year's SIM free model

Can't you just get Verizon to activate a sim and pop it in? Doesn't really effect me since I'm on AT&T but just curious.
That's the key, IF you an get them to do it, it works fine. In the past they've made it very difficult to get a SIM card if you're not already an existing customer.

I was slow to come around to a smartphone but finally purchased my first (Galaxy S3) a while back. I use Verizon prepaid which suits me perfectly. (With auto-pay it's just $45 a month for 2Gb of data & unlimited talk/text.)

I want to switch to the 6s Plus and stay with Verizon prepaid. I'm clueless about what the best option for that is. Can I buy the sim-free version and just plop in the sim from the S3? And, since the sim-free 6s is apparently the AT&T version of the phone, will it work as well on Verizon's network as one marketed as Verizon?

Yes it should work. But You will need to cut the sim from your S3 to a nano sim card size as I believe that S3 uses micro??

It will work fine. If you go to Verizon they'll give you a nano sin card.

Apple is showing shipping about two weeks out. Do these delivery estimates prove fairly accurate, or could you expect to receive the phone before then?

I'm not in a great hurry and would prefer to avoid a 90-mile round trip to the nearest Apple Store.

Is it possible to place an order and pay while in the Apple Store for a device that will ship in 2-3 weeks? Trying to take advantage of the 10% cb from discover.

I must be missing something about your Discover Card. Why not just reserve one for the Apple Store and buy it with your Discover Card?

The 128's are not available right now in my area. Rather than refreshing and checking everyday would rather just order it and get it in acouple weeks, but in order to get the 10% cb it must be purchased at Apple store.

I just ordered it online. It won't ship for 2-3 weeks so I'm hoping to find one tomorrow at the Apple Store 45 mins away from me.

In the dark about the plusses for SIM-free and why it's more desirable. Could someone explain please.
Historically, unlocked phones are more desirable(bigger audience of buyers). The current 6s+ come with different LTE bands depending on carrier. The sim free is guaranteed to work on all carriers networks with the correct sim. So basically its an ATT 6s+ that is not tied to ATT and will reassure any potential buyer it will work without the head ache of being associated with a specific carrier. Its less hassle to resell in a nut shell.

Because of the online ordering delivery delay, I just reserved to pick up this evening a 6s at the nearest Apple Store, coincidentally 45 minutes away from me.

Plenty of unlocked ATT phones. Only advantage to SIM fee might be being white listed on Verizon and Sprint, but if last year is an indication, the others will be white listed soon. Almost certainly before any of us plan to resell

There's plenty of 6S phones available but not a single 6S Plus available in the 45 minutes away and the one about an hour away as well.

You might be right there. I had checked Verizon's BYOD page and entered my T-Mobile purchased IMEI and within days of getting it and it said that it wasn't compatible with their network. I just check again, two weeks later, and right after Apple started selling the SIM-free model and my T-Mobile acquired one's IMEI seems to be accepted by Verizon. Couldn't verify with Sprint because their website says one has to swing by one of their stores to validate the IMEI number. If this is true then this is a relief because I was worried about carrier compatibility when I looked at the back of my box and CDMA compatibility was nowhere to be found even though Under Settings>General>MEID shows up along with IMEI which is the traditional identifier for CDMA carriers.

Ordered a 6s sim free for in store pickup and returned my T-Mobile launch day device (last day of return!). Took about all of 5 minutes. Should increase the resale value.

Just reserved a sim-free 6s plus to pick up in an hour. QQ will the Apple store take cash? Might seem like a dumb question but I just sold my old iphone and have extra cash in my pocket.

Yes, Apple store accepts cash as a form of payment. I've seen many people buy with cash. Just know that in case you aren't satisfied and you return, they will mail you a check instead as they don't give cash back as a return.
