I returned my AT&T 6S Plus to Apple. I was all set to pick up my reserved Sim free 6S this afternoon but backed out at the last minute. After owning and loving my 6 Plus for the past year I just couldn't go back to the smaller 4.7" screen again, or shorter battery life. I went home and ordered the SIM Free 128GB Silver 6S Plus instead. I can wait till the end of the month if it means getting the fully unlocked version....

I just hope the SIM Free version really can be activated on Verizon if I need it to be at a later time... :apple:

Why wouldn't you just keep your att 6s plus? it's identical to the att version.

Exactly this doesn't make sense to me. You pay full price with AT&T it's unlocked automatically. So why the big deal with this unlocked sim free thing going on? I'm confused.

From what I was reading, it didn't sound like it would be able to be activated on Verizon even if it was unlocked. Since I want band 30 with AT&T and also want the ability to use my iPhone 6S Plus on Verizon, I figured the SIM free version was my best option.

Historically, unlocked phones are more desirable(bigger audience of buyers). The current 6s+ come with different LTE bands depending on carrier. The sim free is guaranteed to work on all carriers networks with the correct sim. So basically its an ATT 6s+ that is not tied to ATT and will reassure any potential buyer it will work without the head ache of being associated with a specific carrier. Its less hassle to resell in a nut shell.
So,unlocked then. I know what unlocked is of course but wasn't familiar with the term SIM free. Thanks.

I think purchasing a unlocked AT&T version with band 30 would get you more money when it's time to sell it than trying to sell a sim free one. Just because of the extra band. Apple guy told me earlier today at store once a iPhone is unlocked they can work anywhere with any sim in the world. So I think the AT&T version is the better way to go as a potential future iPhone 6+S seller.

So just so I'm clear...If I ordered the sim free 6s plus I can pop my verizon sim card into it and use it fine?

The AT&T and sim free models both have band 30.

If Verizon and Sprint end up adding the att model to their white lists (happened last year a little after the sim free model was released), then there'll be no advantage to one over the other

The SIM Free version does include Band 30 as well.

The SIM free has band 30.

I'm hoping it does. Verizon can be difficult to work with when it comes to activating a phone that isn't specifically theirs.

I will be beyond pissed. :\
Yeah, might as well have just ordered the Verizon version instead if that's the case. At least the Verizon iPhone can be activated on AT&T. Only thing missing would be Band 30 which isn't available everywhere anyway.

They're being a royal pain in the ass. Asking if Apple gave me a device id or imei number...WELL NO, why would they give me that? She said even if the device is "unlocked" they might not be able to activate it. So annoying.

Tell her it's Friday go out have a drink with your friends at TGIF and you'll call her back tomorrow for the real answer

Every iPhone should come with a IMEI. You can find it by opening the SIM tray.

Also, it seems fishy they said they wouldn't activate it. Apple's site clearly clearly states that the SIM Free iPhone can be used on Verizon:

"And because it’s unlocked, it isn’t tied to one carrier, so you can get a nano-SIM from any supported carrier worldwide, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint in the United States."

Yeah I don't know if she was misinformed or what. She wanted me to give her a device id but I just ordered the flipping phone. It's not even in my possession. It was a simple question. I just wanted to make sure that I could take the sim out of my current 6 plus and put it into the sim free 6s plus and continue my service like normal. -_-

If you already have a Vetizon SIM, there is no need for Verizon to activate it so you should be fine with the SIM Free version. When you get the phone, put your current Verizon SIM into it and it should work.

I got a SIM-Free 64GB Space Gray 6s+ today at noon, paid in full. Walked over to Verizon store to ask for a SIM (my old device had a micro SIM , not a nano SIM). Verizon checked me in, I waited 15 minutes while looking at cases, decided on a sleek Otterbox, and the girl from Verizon installed the SIM and switched over my Unlimited Data Plan to the new phone. Took 5 minutes for the new phone to successfully make a call, and have had no issue since.

FYI, my 6S+ has a Samsung A9

EDIT: the sim from verizon was no cost.

Thanks for the info iNinja. Makes me feel a lot better.

Now to just wait 3 weeks. -_-

I think we'll get them in 2 weeks. :)

Two weeks would be nice... One week would be even better. LOL. Can you tell I'm not very patient? I even considered just getting the 6s but figured id regret it since I currently own the 6 Plus.
