Apple should have reached into the past, when flat icons were required due to limited display and processing power, and gone with System 9's profile of a guy with the speaking balloon.

Just update that with some color and you're done. Instead of that 1960's Flipper™ graphics inspired icon depicted in this article.

So Google announced their Amazon Echo competitor called Google Assistant at I/O today. According to Twitter it sounds a lot like the Viv demo from the former Siri guys. Interesting though that this isn't coming from Tony Fadell and Nest team. Seems to me Nest could easily be folded into Google rather than a separate Alphabet company.

I wonder if Apple will be showing off something similar at WWDC? Just Siri on the Mac without any improvements is pretty meh.

Yeah, I'm less concerned what the dock icon looks like but hope there's going to be significant advances with Siri. Apple does seem to be falling behind in this area. That said, Google does not have a great track record with product releases at I/O.

Apple has a second chance to get Siri right by buying out Viv and incorporating it system level into iOS, MacOS, and TvOS. Siri's next step is integrating with 3rd party apps and off loading all the work to the 3rd party devs instead of in house

True, but they seem to be getting their you know what together. And how they hired a VP to oversee all their smart home/hardware efforts. Which I find kind of amusing since I thought that's what they purchased Nest for. I wouldn't be surprised if Tony Fadell is gone within a year.

Meaningless icon unless you've already used it and understand what the image is

How many people own a Mac but have never used Siri on an iOS device? I can't imagine that many.

I'm disappointed this hasn't been posted yet

What a good idea, I'd forgotten about that icon. Just looked on Google and can't find an image of it.

I guess I'll have to just hide the icon and ignore it, seeing as my Mac Mini has no microphone.
We all know Mac Mini users are not considered real/worthy Mac users, we're just cheap penny-pinchers trying to cheat our way on the cool train without shelling out the full price.

I don't get why I can say "Hey Siri, turn on Wifi" (or Bluetooth), but she freaks out when I say "Hey Siri, turn on Hotspot." She even acknowledges that "I can't do that, but you can do it in Settings." (With a button to link you to settings)

Even just now, my screen was awake and I said, "Hey Siri, lock my phone." She replied with "Surprisingly, that is not within my capabilities."

I like that even their product knows it's ridiculous that it can't do things. sounds like the devs wanted the function but management told them to hold off so they put the cheeky response in.

Curious which keyboard button they'll use for invoking Siri.

  • Double-tap fn (like how it is for voice dictation)?
  • Long-press command (Apple button)?
  • Repurposing the caps-lock key just for Siri (Like Chromebook's for search)?

Cool but I keep forgetting I have things like Siri and Cortana. I don't even remember to use 3D Touch.

I do wish artificial intelligence a strong future but I think it is best suited to helping policy makers collect data and understand things like environmental data, crimes rates, etc. An AI could do this without the human greed and tribalistic biases.

Dancing and clapping around your Mac with the mouse in hand :D 3 circles to activate, 4 to desactivate.

Or very likely it may be a security risk, because I can say really loud "Siri Turn Off Wifi and Lock My Phone" in a restaurant and every single iPhone in the entire room would lock and not have wifi, even if people were using it.
