So there is a market for iPhones that are put out of service?

Or to speak the other way round: those ID's should be easy to be generated en masse.
Who could tell if it's a random hit or a real one?
Looking forward for the first message of regular iPhone user impacted by hacked ID circulating.

No once forces anyone to upgrade, and most people with a 4 are under contract and can't upgrade until the 5 comes out anyways...

And there is nothing mediocre about the 4S upgrade...

lets see 512 mb or ram same as the 4 had, same scree, same phone design, what did i miss? ohhhh thats right SIRI!

Well I'm sure whatever countermeasures Apple has to put in place to fight this will be of benefit to those of us with iPhone 4Ss. So, Thanks!

Very nice piece of detective work, and an interesting read.

Of course, they're right...Apple will change and/or further encrypt the data exchange so it stays private. No way Apple will let Siri stay this way for long.

Why does it need more ram? It's crazy fast and there is nothing wrong with the design, so why change it? I don't want a bigger screen and am glad they didn't make it bigger, if the 5 comes out with a bigger screen I will wait also as I can to upgrade.

What I actually find most interesting is the http user agent: It identifies itself as "Assistent".

This may confirm some of the iPhone 5 rumors, as the source said the prototype had Siri, but it was called Assistent.

Oh my god there's a iphone 5 in development! Strike me down! lol

When it comes out i'll get it even though I have the 4s

Is anyone shocked that Apple validates the device to ensure it's "allowed" to use Siri services?

of course I am not surprised, its Apple's service they are providing on their server. Why would they want other people hijacking and transferring data on their dime?

These d-bags "hacked" Siri so Apple's billion dollar R&D and server infrastructure can "be used on Android" etc??? Classy.

If you are a developer, you should get an iPhone 4S. It is the proper Siri use-case and the one used by masses, so why bother going around it for a product that normal users won't have?

Two reasons: 1) Because they can and it creates massive street credibility for those that did it. 2) It is just a matter of time before the server side if Siri is duplicated by other services and offered as a subscription service for any device.

Upgrades

lets see 512 mb or ram same as the 4 had, same scree, same phone design, what did i miss? ohhhh thats right SIRI!

Here's a list for you and those of us who neglect to mention them:

-Siri
-8 megapixel camera with vastly improved optics. Quality is absolutely outstanding. I am a pro-photographer, I use Nikon and Canon DSLRs, I shoot films on the RED and I can tell you the iPhone 4S camera is far from mediocre. 1080p video on a camera that does not look like $#!T, AND almost no color noise in well-lit photos. Amazing and worth the upgrade for me.
-A5 Chip, dual core processor. Talk to anyone who games on their iPhone, talk to me who uses the Brushes app and other creative tools. This particular upgrade makes Brushes, Games, and productivity apps run smoothly, and when I'm digital painting on my phone, I don't want the cpu to hiccup.
-improved antennae design. I get 1 more bar everywhere I got less than 5 bars with my iPhone 4. It makes the difference.
-Bluetooth 4.0.

And lets talk about the design a little. Stainless steel. Last time I checked, stainless steel is stronger than cheapo plastics. Glass. Beautiful, reflective, smooth, polished glass. My finger glides across it like a puck on ice. Used the Droid Bionic and Droid charge (Friends). It was like touching sandpaper with a burn wound.

Cheers.

I like to school the apple sheep on why their products are illogical, overpriced, and over hyped compared to the competitors.

My god man! Your user name and your comments are hilarious.

I have hated my experiences with Google Android and Microsoft Windows, I am an Apple fan and that's why I visit this site.
But it would never even cross my mind to head over to forums dedicated to those platforms just to 'school them on why their products are crap'.

Androidfan - you really need to get out more.

The only thing iPhone 4s has that the 4 didn't is siri... of course apple is lame and won't let anyone else have siri they want you to just keep paying the apple tax on a two year old product that is slower, smaller, cheaper, and more fragile then the competition.

..and an a5 processor, improved graphics, smart-switch antennae, more storage, better camera...in fact the only thing that carried over is the body style and screen. Both of which people seem to like, according to sales figures.

Please explain how the iphone is slower (since Android reviews always mention lagginess and jumpiness on the touch screen). Ghz don't count, since I don't use Ghz, I use programs. I'd be interested to see how no plastic signifies "cheap" and how you can think having a smaller phone is worse than having a larger phone.

In regard to fragile I have had an iphone since it came out and I have never used a case, and only smashed a screen twice...and I drop mine all the time and take it out biking etc. Its break rate is the same as my other phones in college and high school. So its not really that fragile....

Did you just describe the iPhone as in illogical product?

Call me a prick, a flame, a troll, whatever. I'm going to say this anyways.

All you jailbreaking lamers can GTFO of my Siri service.

Plz kthx bai.

I am sick and tired of this irrational attitude Apple users are exhibiting towards this thing. It's like you're all entitled to EVERY goddam software feature that Apple EVER releases post-purchase of your shiny iPhone N (where N is an integer between 1 and infinity).

News flash for all you thick-headed users who can't wrap your brains around it- Apple exists because they produce NEW PRODUCTS with NEW FEATURES. If they never did that- you'd never have incentive to upgrade. You'd never have incentive to buy a new product. Buying their **** is what lets them forge experiences like Siri (I'm well aware the core technology was purchased. They took it and made it usable, then integrated the hell out of it into iOS 5).

I paid $850 for an iPhone 4S 64GB unlocked. Included in that price was the right to use Siri- the right to a guaranteed "Siri Experience", as it were.

If you can't pony up the price for the hardware and software, then stop ****ing things up for those of us who did. I can't wait until the Siri servers are overloaded with iPhone XYZ requests, and Apple either: A) shuts them off, or B) does something irrational that only impacts paying customers.

Then I guess you'll all just sit around and go "Nuah hahaha, look what Apple did to all those paying fanbois! Serves them right for actually PAYING for something!".

Wow. The iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4 definitely should have gotten Siri. Apple just wants money and thats why they are just having it for the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4G both have A4 which in my opinion is great for Siri.

Fail.

Want to buy:

iphone 4S device identifier for using Siri on my i4. :p

Condition: the iphone 4S owner cannot use Siri after that. :D

Amen. People just don' get it.

So at Least Jailbreak Apps can make use of Siri soon (on the 4s)?

Great, all legitimate Siri users who paid for the new iPhone need is a bunch of unauthorized thieves loading down the server.
