I'm sure iPad 2 doesn't have the capabilities to run Siri because they didn't know what it would take to run it 2 years ago. So, they couldn't include what was needed. They obviously recently discovered how to make it work, and needed to include hardware as well as a major upgrade to the iOS.

With the great leaps in technology, I'd be surprised if iOS 6 will even run on the old iPad 2, let alone Siri.

I would be surprised if iOS 6 did NOT run on iPad 2. Its still sold.. still supported.

Siri on iPad is great! But I hope iOS6 doesn't look exactly close to iOS 5... Kinda getting tired of very very small changes here and there.

So, it's important for the iOS updates "look" different? I'm more interested in functionality than looks. Besides, GUI consistancy is very important if you want to preserve customer satisfaction.

So last week was the week of iPhone leaks, this one is the week of iOS leaks!

IOS 6 Siri during WWDC

Apple will not wait to announce that Siri is included with IOS 6 and that coming to the iPad. Apple may not include it in the first beta, but may include it in the following betas. (Most defiantly the GM). This is still a "rumor" because nothing is confirmed until next Monday. Most likely it is a 50-50% on which product the "IOS 6 Siri" will come with.

Definitely something predictable, just glad to see it confirmed

THEY NEED TO DIO MORE THAN JUST BRNIG SIRI TO IPAD THEY NEED TO UPDATE SIRI DRAMATICALLY SO ITC AN DO MUCH more stuff.. and integrates fully with the OS ... Siri as she is now is only a "C" grade feature .. SHE needs to be up to "A" grade in ios6...

I hardly use siri on my 4S but if its improved that will change

Seriously? Old iPad2? I hope that you are aware that the new iPad runs basically the same processor as the iPad 2 and the graphics are pretty much the same due to the retina display.

If Apple could get iOS 5 running smoothly on the original iPad (which only has a single core processor), then it can surely put iOS 6 on the iPad 2. (especially when the new iPad has comparable benchmarks)

Apple always does stuff they should have done already at makes it seem like a cool new thing..lolol

Wow that is crazy talk.... first of all. the iPad 2 runs the identical CPU to the iPad 3 and they have the same microphone is the same spot (I think). Theoretically speaking, the iPad 2 should be able to run Siri just as well as the iPad 3. Do I think Apple will enable it? No.

Now the really crazy part... you don't think the iPad 2 will run iOS 6?!! and you seem to be implying that you don't think it would even capable of running it!!??

Thus far every iOS device has been fully supported for at minimum 2 years. The iPhone 3GS is still fully supported and it was released 3 years ago. The iPad 1 is still fully supported so I think it's pretty obvious that iPad 1 support would have to be discontinued before iPad 2 support. The iPad 2 is currently still being sold. Never in the life of Apple have they ever currently sold hardware that was incapable of running the latest OS. And lastly, the iPad 2 hold the identical CPU (A5) to the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, the iPad 3, and even the rumors that I have heard about the iPhone 5. I think we can safely assume the iPad 2 will get iOS 6... possibly 7 and 8 also.

Bogus!

GREAT news....Why doesn't Apple fix this beta program so it works properly before putting it on the iPad?
Are we payed beta testers now?
I bought the iPhone 4S because of Siri. "other languages will follow soon" they said. Now i know what "soon" means. After all this time, French and Japanese.
GREAT. Even with my not that bad English, i keep on hearing "i don't understand......."
Let apple test their software before making it a big marketing and sales asset!!

Nice, but... ¿when is Siri going to speak spanish?

On my iPhone 4s, Siri is turned off until it speaks my language.

No reason it shouldn't have been included when the iPad 3 launched.

Heck...it should have been in the Ipad2. What bothers me is that the hardware will support it, but Apple will probably not allow it to run on the Ipad2, just to get those who want it to trade up to a new one.

Oh well..it's all about making money anyway.

IF the accuracy isn't improved it will become an unused feature just like it is on the iPhone. Not much more than a novelty.

Agreed. Right now it's just a hair above junk.

* Over the weekend I tried the test of mimicking the John Malkevich Siri commercial. Half of those commands did not even work, not even "Joke".

* I could not get the weight of a badger.

* I hate the fact that most of the answers you do get only appear on the screen. Not very helpful when you're driving. It needs to read you answers.

* She open apps.

It's kind of a cheap ploy they keep heavy advertising this feature to sell new phones.

"Siri, how good is the microphone on the iPad?"

"I found these music stores near you who's reviews mention microphones."

"Oh, guess that still answers my question."

Siri does not do the voice recognition.

In fact voice recognition--exactly the same as on the iPhone 4S--is already present on the iPad 3. It works surprisingly well for me--in general better results than I have with Siri on my 4S. This is probably because I use Siri on the iPhone when out running around, whereas my iPad is usually used at home or in my office.

Since I don't have a 4S, I've not really used Siri much until I remembered that I had voice dictation on the new iPad.

At least for me, the performance on the iPad is really very good. It's not quite to "awesome" but it's close.

Hit the mic button, wait for the chime, and talk. The results come back within a second every time (at least so far) and typically the results are as I spoke them.

I tend to think that if you're asking Siri something, that's going to need back-end compute power which will be subject to variation. Siri has to figure out what you said, look up your account, and figure out what you meant. Only the first item is needed for voice transcription.

Again, I haven't used Siri for anything other than transcription, but obviously Apple has a lot of confidence in it - they wouldn't be running a series of high-profile ads otherwise.

i couldnt agree more, so much wasted space. i'm on my 2nd iPad and 4th iPhone, the UI hasnt changed much since 2007. its kinda meh now. where is the innovation apple, surprise me ;)

These kind of reactions on all blogs and forums are just stupid.

Meh... it hasn't changed. Meh... it looks the same.

It's not a game or a party where you need different themes every time you play them. Why don't you change your name? You must have been bored by listening or speaking or writing the same thing over and over again?

Change just for the sake of it is stupid. Considering Android – it was a mess in the first place with no consistency in UI with absolutely hideous looking UI controls (even still to some consistent). ICS brought a lot of maturity, consistency and beauty to the system which is appreciated by anyone. Moreover, Google has a history of changing the way things work from time to time. They are highly unstable and cannot figure out the best or a near-perfect usecase in the first go - hence so many changes.

Saying that – there is a lot of space wasted is also pretty ridiculous. Designers tend to minimalism showcase which leads to outer beauty. Now some of the space could be utilised in a much more efficient way and arguing about these efficiencies is the right thing to do.

The UIControls in the youtube or other video apps look so-unlike-Apple. Just look at the progress bar or the volume control and compare it to 1999-Aqua-Apple or present day UIControls in Mountain Lion. We want that kind of rich design rather than something for the sake of change.

But one thing's for sure, you don't get bored repeating the same comment over and over and over again in all these threads. Irony much?

Cool :) I'd be even happier if it worked in the video app, I've got 800+ movies on my shared library and with no search on iPad it's getting a bit of a pain in the ass scrolling down! I've requested a search from day one but been ignored... I'll forgive them if they make it Siri search ;) which in my opinion is the entire future of Siri anyway IMO

I am not a Siri fan. I want more compatible printers with AirPrint, hopefully a printer that I already own. I'm not into buying a new printer just so I can print from an iPad.

AirPrint hacktivator... Or whatever new name they gave it. Works with a lot of different printers.

but will it work properly? because it doesn't even work properly on the 4s.

Explain.

Pah. I'm still waiting for Siri in the UK to be able to provide local business lookups, maps, directions etc - I mean wasn't that stuff supposed to be added in Q1 2012?

Come to think of it, I'm still waiting for Siri to actually understand a phrase I say other than "what's the weather like?"

Great news.

This is why I bought the new Ipad for Siri. I

You bought an iPad for a feature it didn't have, expecting it to have it later.

I wonder how you worked out that logic given that Siri requires an internet connection which the iPad doesn't always have (unlike the iPhone where you have your ongoing 3g connection).

Most folks would side with the logic that Apple won't be putting Siri into the iPad due to this need. And certainly not until she's out of Beta and actually works decently and in all countries. Even on your iPhone you can't get street directions, those great "find me a place that makes soup and delivers" etc even now in the UK.

So you bought an iPad for a feature that is not part of the iPad, wasn't announced as coming to the iPad at all much less any time soon and doesn't even work fully on the device that has it. Sounds like you just enjoy spending money.

Almost everything about Siri is done on the backend, including the voice recognition. Put your iPad in airplane mode and watch the dictation icon on the keyboard go away.

The same speech recognition is done whether it is for dictation or for Siri: it is from Nuance. Heck, Dragon Dictation--from Nuance--on an iOS device is about the same thing too (also needs server-side support to work).

About the only thing done locally for Siri, besides recording and sending speech, is to act on something returned from the backend: such as making a call or creating a reminder.

In my opinion even the first iPhone had enough power to "run" Siri.
