spot on

they do have to announce something big, now that google & asus are trying to steal some thunder. I repeat, trying

Apple doesn't announce or design based on what the other boys are doing. They don't really care about the other teams.

They will announce whatever they do based on one thing and one thing alone. If the developer kit is being released. Because they know that everything in that kit will be leaked and Apple hates others announcing things before them. so they will announce what is in the kit before they give it out. If it's not in the kit, it won't be announced. Software or hardware.

But one thing's for sure, you don't get bored repeating the same comment over and over and over again in all these threads. Irony much?

well, i dont look at my comments 24/7 since 2007

and iOS HAS lots of wasted space. the lockscreen has nothing but the time and slide to unlock, seriously still in 2012?

not even the weather? how hard could it be to at least show the daily calendar events on the lockscreen.

the notification center looks so silly on the iPad cuz there is nothing to display. hopefully iOS6 lets devs add their own widgets to the notification center.

also no status bar icons like a mute icon or new mail icon etc.

apple needs to tweak the UI at least a little ... all they do is add "apps" like reminder and call it "amazing". if i want another random app, i could just buy one at the app store. there are hundreds of those

thank god for a jailbreak

ANYWAY this thread is about Siri on the iPad so whatever.

Pesonally, I believe that "beta Siri" was created soley to create data points by developing knowledge of languages, accents, grammar dictation and usage. That's why it has the "beta" indicator. Apple couldn't use just devs to test the beta because they needed as many data points as possible.

Bingo. That's exactly why they did it. Otherwise they would have to have brought in millions of folks or bought millions of voice samples to even get started with it.

as for a year being enough time, perhaps once Siri is world wide. But at this point they're barely started even just with English. Think more like another 2-3 years before the Beta comes off and the system really works.

----------

They already do it with voice dictation available on the iPad 3 and isn't on the iPad 2.

Yep.

And make no mistake. As much as Apple wants and needs this system out there (and yes using dictation does help to improve the system) they don't want it out there too much. Server overload is already horrid with just the 4s and iPad 3. If they opened it up to the 4 and iPad 2 it just gets worse, especially when the iPhone 6th Gen comes into play. it's easier for them to look future only than look back and it puts something of a cap on the stress on the system.

People looking forward to see it on the iPad 2 are ignorant AND dumb.

Ignorant because they don't seem to know that Apple strategy, be it only the fact that they didn't release Siri with the "New" iPad when they could've perfectly, consist in releasing new update only for the newest product so you buy it, even if it would work on old models.

Dumb because, in 2012 who hasn't effin' heard about jailbreaking which will probably allow you easily to use Siri on the iPad 2, and more ?

I am not a Siri fan. I want more compatible printers with AirPrint, hopefully a printer that I already own. I'm not into buying a new printer just so I can print from an iPad.

That's not an iOS issue. that's the printer side of the game. Not much Apple can do there.

What about Siri for iPod 4th Generation?

They didn't do it for the iPhone 4th Gen or the iPad 2nd Gen is it is very unlikely they would it it for the iPod Touch 4th Gen. Especially when a 5th Gen could be coming out with the iOS 6. IF Siri comes to an iPod Touch that is the only one that will get it. And I for one won't be shocked when it is just Dictation same as the iPad (for the same reasons of lack of constant internet access)

I wish Siri would come to my iPad 2 also, but, if for no other reason, I am 99% positive it will be iPad 3 exclusive simply because dictation is iPad 3 exclusive.
I think so too. I'd be more hopeful if the iPad 2 also got the dictation feature, but as we all know it didn't.

Ooh, that would be unfortunate if that does happen. but remember how the first iPad didn't get the multitouch support when the ipad 2 had it? Then :apple: updated it so the ipad 1 can have the multi-touch toggle to turn it on or off. I'm hoping that can be the case if the iPad 2 don't get siri right away.

ehh, all we can do is speculate until :apple: release ios 6.

but please Apple, please add siri to ipad2 as well!

I really don't see why they waited for iOS 6  This could have been done way before.

it's their marketing strategy to get the most sales. They probably have all these releases planned out.

Just think about it for a sec, if they release it for the ios 5, then there's no point in buying the ipad 3 and or the iphone 4s in the consumer point of view. daily consumers can care less about the hardware upgrades (obvious daily consumer does not equal to mac rumour people and people who knows more about tech) , they are in for the features. If they release all the features, what's the point of upgrading?

I couldnt of had said it better myself. It all makes complete sense. You either care about hardware or features. People on here are all about the hardware in combination with software. But for the average Apple user, new features are far more important than an internal change most wont ever notice :D

No reason it shouldn't have been included when the iPad 3 launched.

Seriously? Users need reasons to move to 6.0.
The same marketing as the 1st Gen iPad having no camera.
Want Siri on an iPad? Gen 3. Apple has always marketed this way.
Like it or hate it it works for Apple. :apple:

Totally agree. Setting up appointments, reminders, text messages and quick math all while driving and not being pulled over by the cops (or worse, crashing), sure is "the sucks"

to be honest siri seems to distract more than actually typing while driving

Siriously

Get rid of the canned computer voice already! In the day of high speed computers it can not be that difficult to pre-record thousands of the most commonly used words and put them into sentences. Please.

and this benefits who financially? customer or company. I think Apple's marketing strategy could be more beneficial to the customer and yet still allowing them to operate at a profit.

Funny how that works for you, but not for me. It's why Siri is terrible for me.

Glad it works for you, but for many many folks... it simply doesn't.

Seriously? Old iPad2? I hope that you are aware that the new iPad runs basically the same processor as the iPad 2 and the graphics are pretty much the same due to the retina display.

If Apple could get iOS 5 running smoothly on the original iPad (which only has a single core processor), then it can surely put iOS 6 on the iPad 2. (especially when the new iPad has comparable benchmarks)

nope ipad 3 is faster and supports more graphics effects n games like nOVA due to more ram and it has 4Xs the resolution of the ipad 2 which is blurry in comparison and the camera on ipad3 is much much better

hmm wonder how long it will take to release a iOS 6 jailbreak... cant wait for siri (though i do use spite on my current 5.1.1 JB)

THEY NEED TO DIO MORE THAN JUST BRNIG SIRI TO IPAD THEY NEED TO UPDATE SIRI DRAMATICALLY SO ITC AN DO MUCH more stuff.. and integrates fully with the OS ... Siri as she is now is only a "C" grade feature .. SHE needs to be up to "A" grade in ios6...

I hardly use siri on my 4S but if its improved that will change

Well I'm sure they are upgrading it. And I think Tim Cook has made some changesn But when Siri comes to thenipad I think it will be in fine shape
