and this benefits who financially? customer or company. I think Apple's marketing strategy could be more beneficial to the customer and yet still allowing them to operate at a profit.

Of course the company...I consider Apple to be more of a GOOD marketing company than anything else.

Once you become a big corporation... you know the rest.

Get rid of the canned computer voice already! In the day of high speed computers it can not be that difficult to pre-record thousands of the most commonly used words and put them into sentences. Please.

Who says Siri is a computer?? ;)

Lets just leave it at that.. the main feature for iOS 6 is Siri (out of beta). what a bummer.
Well, this is all the result of everyone being so ecstatic over just how perfect the iPhone (and Siri) is. Apple knows they don't even have to do anything this year but bring Siri out of beta and maybe introduce Maps. Add another row of icons and call it a day.

voice commands

That would sound equally canned and mechanical (possibly more so) because you would still lose the flow, inflection, etc.

I disagree-that is old style thinking that's why they still are not doing it-locked into the days when computers were slow and inflection was difficult. It really would not be that hard to give simple sentence responses-many of which would be regularly used.

You bought an iPad for a feature it didn't have, expecting it to have it later.

I wonder how you worked out that logic given that Siri requires an internet connection which the iPad doesn't always have (unlike the iPhone where you have your ongoing 3g connection).

Most folks would side with the logic that Apple won't be putting Siri into the iPad due to this need. And certainly not until she's out of Beta and actually works decently and in all countries. Even on your iPhone you can't get street directions, those great "find me a place that makes soup and delivers" etc even now in the UK.

So you bought an iPad for a feature that is not part of the iPad, wasn't announced as coming to the iPad at all much less any time soon and doesn't even work fully on the device that has it. Sounds like you just enjoy spending money.

Yes I expected it later.

It's not a must have but a good one to have.

Hope Apple add a panorama mode to both the 4S and Ipad 3 camera too.

Agreed, truly Samsung and Android are pushing the envelope big time.

Do you think there will come a point when people will just be sick and tired of the marginal upgrades? And Apple would be forced to compete? Mountain Lion is also ridiculously underwhelming.

It seems that Siri's servers are already so overwhelmed as is, I cringe to think about how bad it will get once every iPad running iOS 6 taps into the server.

That is unless...Apple improves their Siri server performance.

I've for the most part given up on Siri, however I have noticed a slight improvement. Between December and March, Siri barely worked for me. I was constantly getting "I'm really sorry, I can't look that up for you right now".

Let's hope that Apple also allows ipad2 users to enjoy Siri as well.

It's not like the iPad 3 has a better microphone or processor anyway.

I concur since iPhone 4S and iPad 2 share processor technology. Besides, iPad 2 remains an active SKU.

will be nice to see Siri move from just the 4S,
hopefully the next en iPod touch will get it as well.

i think its a good move on apples part, holding onto it
if you give people what they want right away, you won't have them waiting and wanting it.

if Siri does get show cased at WWDC as part of iOS, maybe we will see some APIs making siri more usefully for other apps.

iv played with siri on a friends phone, and i would like to see it come to iPhone 4, i will use it most days. even if i had to pay for it, i would

The new iPad is already using that same server to process the dictation requests. It will have barely any affect once Siri comes to iPad.

this is cool and all, but it should have happened when the new iPad launched earlier this year. unless they really are gonna release an iPad Mini, and Siri will only work on it.

To all the people clamoring for it on iPad 2 or even older phones and saying its exclusivity is simply because of economics, you haven't been paying attention. Have jailbreaks implemented it imperfectly? Yes. But there is a hardware difference between the iPhone 4 & 4S. The system on a chip in the 4S has a more advance noise cancellation processor than the one in past models, I've never seen a teardown that shows the same being true of the iPad 2, CPU aside. I also haven't seen it mentioned on the new iPad, though I assume it is included because of the dictation feature.

Is it partially economically motivated? Likely yes, but they also want it to work as best as it can, and it clearly needed all the help they could get since its 'beta' tag shows very much in this go-round.

I hope that's not it. Otherwise I think I'll try another device this go around or not upgrade at all.

Although I would love for Siri to come out on the iPad 2...I just don't see it happening.

The device is older now, although still quite capable.

On the other hand, the A5 chip alone does not have the hardware necessary nor Audience's proprietary software which filters out background noise as Acrobat 5 said.

Siri demos have been performed on the iPad 2 and it is garbage. There's a lot at play with Siri.

Not gonna happen for the iPad 2.

I agree. I hoped that this would come to the iPad 1 (hah...) but not supporting the iPad 2 would be pretty bad. Although maybe this is Apple's way of saying the iPad 3 is new and has Siri and the iPad 2 doesn't, trying to push more users to upgrade.

But here's hoping for some older support! It's not like the iPad 2 couldn't handle it, hell maybe the iPad 1 could if it really wanted to. iPhoto sure works on it.

Umm, has anyone thought about the fact that Apple is still selling the iPad 2? If this rumor is true, I suspect it will be available on the iPad 2, also.

Yay! That will be a welcomed feature for my iPad.

But it sill begs the question, why didn't they include it with the iPad at it's launch and only had dictation?

I guess it might be due to the fact that Siri would then require other "standard" iPhone apps (Weather, Stocks...) to be included in the iPad version. This could of course have been implemented, but perhaps they were just waiting for the next version of iOS for some added features...

I bought the new iPad hoping that they would enable Siri. Just hope this rumor comes true! i think the iPad could really make use of Siri in terms of productivity (setting up meetings, reminders, as well as finding results really fast). I am also excited about the thought of third party apps making use of Siri APIs!

one more week of waiting (at least to find out... then more waiting!) :p

Thanks for sharing... great show for the geeks in us!

nope ipad 3 is faster and supports more graphics effects n games like nOVA due to more ram and it has 4Xs the resolution of the ipad 2 which is blurry in comparison and the camera on ipad3 is much much better

Please do your research before you post. NOVA 3 had to be scaled down in graphical effects due to the processor not being able to handle both the retina display and the various gfx effects. NOVA 3 actually looks better on the ipad2.

The camera upgrade has nothing to do with performance.

I think it would be great to have Siri on the iPad! I'm already enjoying voice dictation it would be fun to see what else Siri can do.
