Maybe still a better display, like before. And of course its critical advantage is the compact size and light weight — well worth paying for.
According to the previous rumor, the $299 iPad will have the same display as the iPad Air 3rd gen which includes laminated display and the wider color gamut. So $100 more for a better processor and compact size.

Instead of this they could make a iPad mini with the design and features of the new iPad Air 4th gen and sell it for $499. I think it would be great and more people would buy it.

I‘ll preorder day one. Mini is one of my favorite Apple devices.

I bought the first gen mini when they first came out. I thought it was the coolest thing ever but that soon faded when I started to notice the screen was so low resolution compared to the full size retina iPads and the specs all in all were the same as the iPad 2. It simply wasn’t a device built for long term viability.

Sold it for $500 and used that money to go towards an iPad 4. Haven’t gone back to a mini since but I’ll always remember that thing for how light, thin and portable it was.

And I just got the 2019 Mini for Christmas. Darn it! Well, at least it didn't cost me a penny! :)

It is about time! Hope Apple makes it a premium model too. I hate buying a new Mini but it still has inside 2-4 year old components and then they put in a one year old SoC to hide the older components. Apple at least add additional speakers to the Mini. The same old styling since 2012 but rumor has it that they will narrow the bezel a little more. Come on Apple, the Mini is not price sensitive! Price it if you have to with that of the iPad Pro 11” with the same components inside of it!

Darn... My mother-in-law's iPad mini 2 Retina is getting to be pretty bad these days. I was hoping for a jump to a device without a home button.

However, this might work out ok, she went with the 2020 SE for her personal phone and then shortly after her work phone was upgraded to a 2020 SE. So perhaps continuing with a home button for her iPad isn't the worst thing that could happen.

Love the mini. My hangup is I sometimes hit the home button while writing (big Pencil fan). It's a chore to turn flip the screen and lock it, but that's what i do...

I wouldn't get a new one unless it got rid of the home button... iPad Mini Pro?

What a disappointment if true, I was super stoked for a redesigned iPad mini similar to the pro/current air line-up. This sounds like it will use the first gen apple pencil and lightning
Based off of the current iPad, I don't see this happening for another two years. I realize the iPad is cheaper, but still. It is sad though as I was hoping for the same.

Not too long ago, speculation was strong that the mini was going to be dropped from the lineup. So while I would easily pony up $500 for a smaller iPad Air 4, Apple has decided that isn’t to be. While that doesn’t mean it will never happen, I think if they were going to do it now would have been the time to do it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, Apple has all the data on what they need to build the stuff people will buy, so the rest of us can just fantasize about our ideal i-whatever.

Minor iPad tweaks don’t interest me. It honestly won’t make the products much different than they are now

M1X iMac 24”/30”, M1 MBP 14/16 are what I want to see.

Agreed. It is high time for the iMac to lose the bezels. Other than that, I'm honestly fine with the current design. I've been very happy with my 2017 5K 27".

Just laminate the screen and I'm in. I can't deal with that clunky slate of glass ontop of the display after moving from an Air 2 to a Mini 4 and finally a 2018 11" Pro. It's just too chunky and cheap looking.
