to get people to buy the iPad Air 4 which is a bigger jump in price than before if they want a less dated design

You're having your logic backwards, just as Apple seemingly seems to have. People buying the Mini don't do so for the cheaper price, but for the size.

I'm a sucker for the mini and if I want a mini I'd never even consider an Air, even if I prefered that one's specs/design/whatever. I want the mini for its size. And the Air can't offer that.

Home button? If this isn’t like iPad Pro design I’m not buying it.

why does apple refuse to make the product everyone wants?
Probably because they're afraid that a pro version of the mini would blur the line between that and the iPhone Pro Max; all while the iPhone Pro Max is ridiculously more expensive than the iPad Mini ever could sell for.

I keep being disappointed, but I'm not surprised.

I effing do want an iPhone Pro Max in an iPad Pro Mini-format, though; and it wouldn't surprise me if a surprisingly large amount of people would buy them (after they've stopped laughing about it). Might even be the next wannabe influencer-thing; a portable editing studio etc.

Since the external corners are rounded, expect a difference of 0.2 inches :D. If iPad mini 6 is not same as iPad Pro design, I am not buying it.

O yes, been waiting for a few years on an iPad mini with this form factor.

I thought the new iPad mini will mirror the new Air (4th gen).
That is having slim bezels like the Air, Touch ID on the power button , USB C and Apple Pencil 2 support and with A14 Bionic for $499.
That’s what many of us had hoped for. I sold my iPad mini 4 in anticipation of a getting my hands on a smaller iPad Air 4th Gen. A iPad mini that looks a lot like the mini 4 is not what I want.

If they updated the Mini to be "bezel-less", similar in style to the new iPad Air or the Pro line, I'd preorder one right now - take my money. But I refuse to buy one with a Touch ID sensor and giant top and bottom bezels.

Not to mention if it really is an 8.5" display with the old school chin and forehead, it's going to be noticeably less mini... which actually on the other hand I do wish they stop classifying their glowing rectangles with size adjectives— in that I don't think my iPhone 12 with it's 5.4" display is at all "mini," as I still need to use reachability to pull down the control center without adjusting my grip (just make the thing shorter, the width is perfect)... but I digress.

A larger (even slightly) iPad mini kind of defeats the purpose. In it's current form it slides nicely into inner jacket pockets, works well as a primary navigation device in older cars... all sorts of stuff where the larger iPads would be ungainly. Really hope the report is off and they drop a new Air/iPad Pro style 8.5" iPad instead. Keep the 5 mini around with a lower price, everyone wins.

Edit: and there'd be two sizes of iPad to choose from at each level. iPad, Air, and Pro (assuming they went Air style over Pro).

Your mistaking what you want with everyone.

The mini is great but likely the lowest selling iPad. Most people go for bigger screens.

The unnecessary size increase from iPad Mini 3 to iPad Mini 4 made it just big enough to not fit easily into my jacket pocket. The further size increase worries me even more. Please Apple, just chop off the bezels and call it a day?

It’s Mini or Pro anything in between are just budget iPads and not appealing to me.

i really don't get all the bezel hatred. If you need to hold or move your MOBILE device they are not just useful, they are necessary.

People buy the iPad Mini are not concern with the price but with the size! Apple could charge a $1,200.00 for it, same price as the 12.9” iPad Pro and people would buy it if it had the same technology as the 12.9” iPad Pro has!

Again another Mac okatara article

I don’t believe it but then Mac okatara isn’t a reliable source

We've an iPad mini 2 and 4 in the house and I was indeed surprised to realize the 4 is slightly taller. If they do go the Air 3 route and make it even bigger I guess I'll find a cheap mini 5? My 4 seems awfully pokey as of late.

Ah yes like the iPhone mini that everyone supposedly wanted according to this forum...
I still want it, but why would I buy it when my most common interaction nowadays with my phone is using it to charge my Pencil 1?

The also are a lot here that would want a small iPad Pro (mini) with option to be a phone also. Hey just trying to make this product line that much more valuable. ;)
