Anyone in here order space gray?
Great question since Apple seems to be promoting silver a little more over the last year. From Craig lifting the lid on an M1 MacBook Air — through to the lab scenes with the M1 iMacs & Pro Display XDRs, silver seems to be more favorably positioned over space gray.

Right?! I was just curious. I’ve really enjoyed my space gray MacBook Pro, so that’s why I ordered another one (but in 14” instead of 16”).

My super old MacBook Pro is silver and it reminds me of my work HP laptop. So Space gray for me, it is!

It's like your children: You love all of them.

I like the sleekness of space gray but chose a 14" silver model instead this time. I chose the silver because the space gray on my 2019 16" has started to fade where I rest my hands. I tried cleaning it off with a water dampened microfiber cloth thinking that would help but it's just faded. :(

Hmm interesting! I might wait and see if my local store gets some in on Tuesday and I can always cancel my preorder (if I want to switch to silver).

I caught a quick shot of it on my iPhone. You can see the lighter section to the left of the trackpad where my left hand rests when typing. And to the right of the trackpad where my right hand is. I don't know if it's something from my skin or if it's a combination of oils from my skin & the heat it gives off at times.

Hmm I’ve had mine for 2 years now and it looks basically new! No fading anywhere around the track pad. I think I’ll be safe with space gray again.

My 2018 15” space grey was the same. Also the left front corner edge was silvered from hand resting. It was fixed when a battery change this year also resulted in a complete exchange of the top-case, but I do not have confidence in the longevity of the finish.

FWIW, I have had silver MacBookPros that also suffered wear on the palm rests. Again discolouration and also some pitting. It was less noticeable than with the space grey though.

The problem is working in 30c temperatures with a laptop that instantly gets hot. Inevitably you sweat and the salt leads to corrosion.

I have always liked the form factor of the 16 inch the only thing that stopped me from getting it in Jan was the fact it wasn’t M1 yet. The old 16 has great bezels and a really nice portable form factor anyway.

I just cancelled my 16” order and have pre-ordered the 14”, but then went looking for the “Undo” button like WTH… ??‍♂️
Holy hell I just cancelled my 14” and re-ordered the 16”……aaaaaaand put myself at the back of the queue. ??????

And now I’m thinking of maybe gping with 32GB because I’ll hopefully keep it for 10 years?!? Cancel yet another pre-order? Wild.

I think there's going to be a lot of this when people finally get to read/watch reviews and experience the machines for themselves in stores.

Fact is, we were all pre-ordering based on Apple's promo videos and photos. Seeing them in the real world will cause many of us to change our minds, so a lot of folks in the queue in front of you will just buy one in-store or cancel and re-order which will move you up.

Next - I would be happy to be wrong about this, but bear in mind that Apple is just getting started with Apple Silicon. We're going to see amazing stuff come out as 1) they get better at doing this in laptops 2) they start writing software that really exploits the power on offer here. I think we will see a lot of iterative designs over the next 3-5 years, so the notion of keeping your laptop forever might not be the right way to go.

I did the opposite. I just canceled my 14 inch and opt for the 16 inch now. It’s even getting here a few days earlier than the 14 inch.

looking at these heavy thick things, im leaning towards the upcoming AIR and rather put the rest cash towards an iMac. I find that the 16 inch is nice but heavy on my lap. I just don't see these things as portable. I really want to order but I get the feeling ill be envious of the true and light 2 lb MacBook. Personally I dont think 14 or 16 inches size is adequate for using pro software like video editors. You'll hook up to a big screen regardless and even the MacBook Air is snappy with basic video editing which most of you do when you call yourselves filmmakers or YouTubers. In December I did get the Air and lost interest in my 16 inch but buyers kept stalling on the sale and the Air abruptly died so that was a sign to wait.

Got my 16" today. I actually ordered the first one from Apple some time ago and had an estimate for mid-November. But BestBuy got them in stock and readily available yesterday in many stores around me, so I simply canceled my Apple order and purchased from BestBuy :)
Base 16" but upgraded to 1Tb.
Love it. After the 13", 16" screen is awesome. And yes, I clearly see the difference between "normal" and this XDR Promotion displays. The speakers are fabulous. Listened to music and had a couple of zoom calls, sounded amazing. Keys feel slightly different, not better/no worse, simply different, and still great. I'm glad I went with the larger screen. And it is not heavy at all, but it is subjective, of course.

the silver in the store looked amazing!Much better IMO than SG... brighter with nice keyboard contrast and makes that logo "POP"!

I ordered 14" silver 10 seconds after Apple store went live. Been enjoying it for 2 days now. I think it is a perfect size, screen is fantastic, astounding to get so much power in such a small envelope, and quiet. Zero regrets.
