Is it possible if someone could show a side by side of the 14 and a iPad Pro 12.9 ? Thanks

the silver in the store looked amazing!Much better IMO than SG... brighter with nice keyboard contrast and makes that logo "POP"!
The silver is classic. I ended up swapping for a silver 16. Never opened the box for the silver 14. Though the thought crossed my mind to keep both ?. I like space gray don’t get me wrong. It’s more muted and more stealth. Though ultimately I would like them to make the whole thing jet black.

This convo reminds me of the Iphone Pro Max versus Pro!! LOL
Because it kinda is. Having a 2019 16” going to the 14” was like going from a Pro Max to regular Pro. Funny enough though I can’t do a pro max phone - it’s too big so I have the regular Pro. I think I’d be ok with the 14” but i was FOMOing on the 16”. I’ve had Apple’s largest laptops for almost 20 years, going back to the 2003 17” PowerBook G4.

And the 11 vs 12.9" iPad Pro discussion, I think the poll in that thread has 1000+ votes still split 50/50.
yeah about... the guy at the apple store here said they are selling about 50 % 16 and 50% 14... of course that's one city :) will be curious to see what the real numbers area!

haha, yeah, I thought I could to the pro, but was too small in the end... I guess its a balance! I like the thought of the 16, but at a coffee shop now so couldn't imagine a 16 as its so bulky, but then you have the nice big screen - all trade offs... love the new keyboard tho!

It is a balance. I don't find it bulky. Then again I've been using Apple 16/17" laptops for approximately 18 years. Over that time there have been a few situations where smaller would be more ideal. In 2008, when Apple came out with the MacBook Air, I took that little guy everywhere too — sometimes slipping that into the back of my case with the 17". I think whatever Apple does next with the MacBook Air is exciting to think about. However, I've seen more people using the iPad/iPad Pro in place of a computer in coffee shops, so that dynamic intrigues me. I've always gravitated towards a MacBook over an iPad, but I may have to buy an iPad Pro to see what all of the fuss is about.

yeah makes sense, the iPad can not work for me for a computer replacement... no way, haha

I'm on my new 14", coming from a 2018 15". I don't feel like I'm lacking in screen real estate, but I was practicing having this much screen on the 2018 for a week or two.

Also, notch is underrated. Cursor peek-a-boo is a neat effect, like it gets sucked up into a black hole.

I think like anything we get used to it right? wish screen was a tad longer... haha

if you guys are thinking of traveling wiht these, you are kidding yourselves. I traveled with the 12 inch 2lb MacBook for 3 years and it fit perfectly on the airplane tray table. the other sizes wouldnt fit with eh screen tilted properly. Also I enjoyed putting int into a small thin backpack or man purse. It was a 1 hand grab and carry when I was typing reports at convention events. That is a travel Mac.

If the ppi is higher than 14 is probably just as good as 16 for around the house. I put the 16" on an adjustable stand to eye level and use a full size keyboard. my view area is just right and I dont have to move my head around to look at side by side documents, which causes fatigue. Yea I have a 32" and 27" 4k monitors but find that I dont use them much because of lower ppi and the need to move my head around to read docs. Big monitors are great for creative work like video, photos, where you need all the tools spread out and comparison images. I dont know how you guys use multiple monitors without fatigue.

I wish these MacBooks can angle the screen further back so that I can sit it almost vertical on a stand and move it closer to my face to get a bugger screen effect. the higher ppi is better than a big screen in my opinion.

BTW im not the fat guy in the pic. Im 175 lb and I work out. just for your reference and my flight description use. 3.5lb or 4.5 lb doesnt really matter for home use I guess. it will both get uncomfortable in bed or on lap. only 2 lb will do for travel. Personally im trying to learn how to use the iPad mini for travel. for those of you with the romantic fantasy of occasionally working out of a coffee shop, I find it distracting and uncomfortable. if you indeed travel often and need a laptop, ideally you want the upcoming MacBook (hopefully 12.9" 2 LB) or you are kidding yourself. im torn between upcoming MacBook and bigger nicer screen in my face at home.
Like you, I've used 32" and 27" 4K monitors and hated them because they were too big and tiring.
While my 15" and 16" MacBook Pro were excellent (the 13" one was too small).

In the end, I ended up testing a 24" 4K monitor, I really loved the size, much bigger than Macs, super sharp, and comfortable.

I spent so much time and money ordering different monitor setups, putting them on desk arms, organizing the windows, moving apps around, researching best setups. All pointless. My honest theory now is 12" is great if you use one window and are on the go as a writer for example. 16" is great size if you have one main device because you can see enough for most programs and your eyes don't move around much as you look directly in the center. 24" is the maximum for trying to use multiple apps in one desktop (notes, pages split) without looking around too much but even that may be a bit too big for constant reference looking around. 27-32" is only good for apps like video editing, photoshop, design to see alot without jumping desktops. Otherwise you'll use a writing app in the center of the screen 100% of the time and whats the point of that? I found 32" annoying once the new toy excitement wore out.

I ended up keeping my 32" 4K monitor, and giving it to my mom, using it in 2x scaling, it was a delight to their old eyes.
But otherwise I agree with you, I currently use a 13" MBP M1 and as a software engineer I feel uncomfortable with the space. A 16" or 17" laptop is perfect, I'll probably give in to the new 16.2" M1 Pro , it makes more sense to pay $700 more to get it than to pay $700 for ultrafine 23.7".

What you think about 21.5 size? I'm thinking buy a second hand LG ULTRAFINE 21.5 4K.
