Exactly. The tone he took with Jobs doesn't show respect.

Now, this is purely my opinion, but the idea of dropping F-bombs at Jobs (in reference to Apple) is out of line. Look UP to him. If you want to be a bad-a and choose not to do that, then at the very least RESPECTFULLY ask him. Call me old fashioned (honestly, do it...I'll take it as a compliment), but I believe in respectfully asking others questions if I'm putting my real name on something.

Agreed. If Gawker and their bloggers are recognized a true journalist, it will be an embarrassment for people who are true journalist out there.

Jobs ends with:

"By the way, what have you done that's so great? Do you create anything, or just criticize others work and belittle their motivations?"
In a nutshell, this describes Valleywag over the entire course of its existence: a cancerous presence in online media.

Perhaps some day Tate will wake up and realize that the world he will leave behind isn't better than what it was before. Or maybe he'll never get it. Or maybe he doesn't care. Since we're talking about Valleywag, I wouldn't dare guess.

Does anyone still need further proof that almost everyone at Gawker are just thieves(J.C), liars(J.D.) and just generally arseholes?

Another example of the quality “journalists” at Gawker.

Exactly, it's pathetic how they call themselves journalists. The lack of respect towards Steve is showing, ... this is the Internet, so "bitter much".

That said, why would Steve (who knows he's talking to Gagger Media, so knows it will probably get made public) not even grammar check?

its its its
it is it is it is
it's it's it's ...

which one doesn't belong?

But not important. Glad to see Steve around and about, and that he's doing OK after his life threatening illness. And what a shame that there are bloggers out there calling themselves journalist.

Be right back, I have to write an angry email to Ford, after stealing their lost cars, and blog about it - so I am protected by the law. TTYL8Rz

Apple has taken a big risk in steadfastly dictating a very specific user experience for their devices, and though it may have a lot of people unhappy about the restrictions they put in place it seems to have payed off for them in a big way overall.

Job says

By the way, what have you done that's so great? Do you create anything, or just criticize others work and belittle their motivations?

Reminds me how he criticizes Adobe and then calls them lazy. And how his fanboys just repeat what he says over and over again because he said it. Of course Steve runs Apple, but those fanboys...

Oh man I love Jobs!

That Gawker guy is a self-entitled little ****.

"Don't impose your morality on me" he says...

Really? Really Gawker? How about this- why don't we put all the porn sites on the triple XXX domain extension so people can be clear about what is porn and keep it away from their kids? Oh! That's right- porn companies oppose this, as it would make it easier for people to avoid porn! Riiight... but Apple is imposing its morality on others when it won't let people produce porn apps for the iphone...

Hey Gawker douche- how about you stop trying to force your morality about agreeing with porn on ME and just continue to consume it the way you want without forcing me to accommodate you by worry ing about my kids accessing it on my iphone or iPad? Huh? Did you think about that? Of course you didn't. Because you really are a self-centered little **** who doesn't really contribute to society much except to criticize others in your "journalism" sites.

piss off.

Yep! which is one reason i will continue to spend money with them, 5 iphones, 4 ipods, 3 imacs, 2 notebooks, and almost one ipad later! :)

While what you're saying is technically right, it's ethically wrong. "With great power comes great responsibility".

So if I want to print a circular full of naked images of women in the local newspaper, it's morally wrong for them to deny me that? This isn't about freedom of speech.

How is it any different from game consoles? You're not allowed to run any software or apps you want on a 360, ps3, or Wii. You can only run the apps Sony, MS, and Nintendo approve. They are no more open than an iPad or iPhone. You play by the manufacturer's rules. You don't like the rules, you buy something else. This is how the free market works.

Bingo! The worst part of our self-entitled society is that they have no idea of what it actually means to have your freedoms threatened, so they analogize crap like the App store having restrictions to being an infringement of free speech.

More quality 'garbage' from Gawker... one of the many reasons I haven't visited their sites since the whole lost iPhone debacle... and I'll never return.

I don't think "a lot" of people are unhappy. I think the vast majority dont even realize there even are any restrictions. It's just that the small minority think it's a big issue and want to impale steve for it. Kudos to him for speaking up about it.

Sent from my iPad.

It's truly a sad age we live in. People are so brainwashed that they rather have other people make decisions for them instead of thinking for themselves. If you want to go the no porn route, then don't look at porn and monitor your children. Don't let companies say what you can and cannot do with a product you purchased.

No. People don't want to be forced to make ridiculous decisions at every turn though. A lot of people appreciate the care and consideration Apple puts into making their devices and the decisions they make. This freedom of choice mantra where everything has to be open and available to you is very juvenile and something people get a better perspective on as they get older and hopefully wiser.

Who cares about 3 years from now, today we have gimped devices. Cut Flash out when HTML 5 is ready. We're being chicken-fed technology and paying premium for it.

As others told you over and over, there is no need for you to buy them then. Many of us appreciate what they are doing. People seem to think by having flash on there we would have a choice to use it or not. That is not true, if flash were used then websites would FORCE us to use it. So there would be no choice. Given how I feel about flash I prefer that if someone is forcing a choice on me, the better result is being forced not to have flash rather than the only alternative, being forced to use flash.

Something I often notice when action movies are shown on US television. They'll leave the point-blank headshot in, but will edit out the word **** (wow, I can't even put the incorrect spelling of a word in here, mental.) I live in the UK now. There are naked boobs in the newspaper. It's great.

Yeah this is something that drives me nuts. One of my favorite shows is Criminal Minds. However it deals in very serious matter with serial killers and really depraved stuff. This is on during the second hour of primetime in the United States. It is a very gruesome and disturbing show, and for the life of me can't figure out why it is on at 8:00pm where I live. I would be much more worried about kids watching that then some show with a girl with big boobs in a bikini.

you make this useless statement, then I read your signature where you claim to be a first time Mac user (complete with a little smiley emoticon) and the phrase "Once you go Mac, you don't go back." And your screen name is "MacbookDan"

A wee bit confused are we? All i've read is vitriol from you about Apple...please, just sell your macbook and leave this forum.

I also saw that. One of the funniest things I have seen in a while. You can feel his pain though. He got so excited to get a mac that he even gave himself a mac name and made up a signature. I suspect before he even powered it on... but now he has seemingly been brainswashed by someone somewhere to feel like Apple is out to get him. It is a little sad actually.

Get real....Gizmodo has more of a pro-Apple stance than all of these forums combined.

Hmm... I don't know about that.

Spot on! The freedom is yours all along. If you ask an Apple employee at the store "Hey, before I buy this...can I get porn apps" and the answer is "no", then you have the choice to talk with your dollars and purchase something different. Apple is under no obligation to allow pornographic apps in it's store. Period.

I work for a wireless company that sells Android (which I do love by the way), and I can't tell you how many people come in with jacked up handsets and sure enough, they have about 15 porn apps on their handset. I mean seriously, if that's your thing, cool. But Apple knows the dangers and the pitfalls of allowing that crap and they can choose to say "Hey, not on our product" if they so desire. It's in the same context as some racist saying "It's not fair that there isn't a white power app, they are infringing on my freedom!!!" Most ridiculous and stupid argument in the history of arguing. BUY SOMETHING ELSE. Otherwise, you used your "Freedom of Choice" to hinder your own app buying possibilities. Blame yourself.

It is weird to think all these people have all these porn apps on a phone. I have never thought that a mobile phone was really the best way to have porn delivered. I suspect even in my horniest young male days I would not watch porn on a cellphone sized device.

That maybe but "Freedom from porn" speak is pretty Orwellian. Remember that little ad from 1984? Jobs apparently doesn't.

No it isn't. You should actually read Orwell and quit parroting others, and quit with your lame associations and innuendo.

Apple is applying various of its principles and standards to its business operations. If this is a foreign concept to you, that's YOUR problem, not Apple's.

I am going to agree with Daniel. People need to stop misusing the 1984 and Orwellien analogies when it comes to Apple and Steve Jobs. It just makes you look ignorant.

Jobs can impose his personal beliefs on the platform. But it's to the detriment of the iPad/iPhone. Fast forward a few years: Android based tablets and phones take 90% of the market and with Apple long since abandoning the desktop and Mac, Jobs won't sound so high and mighty.

Yeah kind of like Google's massive success with Nexus One. Here is the reality of the smartphone market. Millions and tens of millions of people like the Apple devices and pay for them. All the other incapable smart phone developers who in years and years of development and research could not come up with a single even semi useful operating system/user interface, were saved by Google who provide them one for free (* with massive strings attached but still free.). So now you have all these competitors that could have individually innovated or pushed ahead the market place all locked into the same commodity basket. None of them will get preferential treatment, there will be no direct synergy between hardware and software.

In otherwords this unfolding of events is perfect for Apple. As Apple works to integreate their devices all the way down to the chip level, all their competitors are separating more and more components.

Android ultimately will make it harder for the other handset makers to compete with Apple. Not to mention now they will all be too busy competing with each other just to be recognized as a android handset to buy.

What would have been much worse for Apple is if say Nokia and Motorola and HTC all came up with good UIs on their own and were able to integrate them with their hardware and provide a real challenge for apple and give them a run for their money. Instead most of the competition went the otherway.

With HP now buying Palm, they may be the only real threat on any serious level who might be able to challenge Apple down the road. Everyone else has essentially given up and decided to just hope for part of the commodity android market.

Who cares about 3 years from now, today we have gimped devices. Cut Flash out when HTML 5 is ready. We're being chicken-fed technology and paying premium for it.
Then don't pay for it, buy something else. I mean, if Flash is so important to you, how stupid do you have to be to buy a product that is famously incapable of running it?

More quality 'garbage' from Gawker... one of the many reasons I haven't visited their sites since the whole lost iPhone debacle... and I'll never return.

Why exactly have you not visited their site since the lost iPhone debacle? Are you upset that they presented the new iPhone before Steve got to?

I love what a childish moron he is, asking the kid what he accomplished in his life. The kid was stating what non-fanboys want for the most part. And in typical Jobs fashion, he acted like a child himself. Bravo, Steve, you're a clown. Gonna make it more fun watching Apple fall.

As blunt and arrogant as you believe Steve Jobs came across, he was by no means acting "like a child himself".

If you can't see how pathetic the blogger was by filling his emails with f-words and various other cusses, then you must be blind. He would have got far further with his argument had he not came across like a prepubescent schoolkid who just learned the f-word.

I can't wait till Steve can fire the moron, you know after he ends up owning the companies for stealing a prototype device.

Really? Where did you come up with that leap of logic?

It's like the idiots on the Right who say gay marriage will lead to people marrying their pets. Morons are morons and Steve feeds them their talking points. Much like FOX feeds the Right.

I can't wait till Steve can fire the moron, you know after he ends up owning the companies for stealing a prototype device.

This doesn't even make sense. Apple couldn't just own Gawker because of some iPhone scandal. The people in this thread are incredible! I haven't seen something like this before, and I've been around here for a few years.

Redunculous!

This is hilarious, but I do agree with Steve. If people want Porn they can go to a PC, if they need coffee they go to Starbucks, if they need quickly get directions to nearest Best Buy with Starbucks they use iPhone.
