Why are you trying to brainwash me into agreeing with your warped ideology? I mean, it doesn't even make any sense. Almost every product you buy has restrictions as to how it can be used. Most books, movies and music are subject to copyright restrictions, so you can't redistribute them. Most physical products come with a warranty that specifies that you cannot modify the product at all or only in very specific ways. Many computer-based products come with far more severe restrictions. E.g. you can only play officially sanctioned PS3 games on a Playstation 3.

If you choose not to buy any product that comes with any form of restriction, you are severely restricting your choices. And I fully support your freedom to follow whatever extremist ideology makes you happy. I just don't understand why you're trying to brainwash me into agreeing with you.

Freedom is a two-way street. For instance, I enjoy having the freedom to buy well-designed products that aren't designed by idiots like you. At the same time, I fully support your freedom to display your idiocy in public.

Note: when you call someone like Steve Jobs a "fascist", don't expect to be taken seriously.

Warped ideology, talk about overkill. Your words are sensationalistic and utter garbage, I'm sure you have a great career ahead of you on perez hilton.com

No Flash is only affecting it's users... Flash is very powerful, and users should have a flippin choice what they want to use... the app store is another thing. Also you have to pay for a license to develop software for the Mac? I heard this and if it's true that's ridiculous and Mac is much more money hungry than Microsoft... people need to stop bumlicking Apple.

Xcode is a free SDK. You don't have to pay to make a mac program. You only have to pay 99$ a year to use apps that you make for the iPhone OS for testing instead of emulation on the computer. But this also gives you a chance to install beta OS.

I really am, I see it this serious, honestly.

This stuff is getting out of hand now, why should I buy hardware that I own and be told what I can view and when I can view it. Just because I'm a Flash user and want to develop? for Flash means I can't because of who I am.

I agree. Why should I buy a car when the makers refuse to add propellers. It should be my choice. And I am boycotting my doctor. He won't install laser beams in my head.

So, basically you're pissed off at almost every piece of consumer electronics.

No? I buy a TV it's my TV I don't get this stupid news that I can't view these channels because LG doesn't agree with it's contents or the channel pictures doesn't display too well...

I buy a PC and the hardware works as it is, I can modify it and work with it. The manual doesn't say I can't use my PC to run Mac, it's up to me...

Apple are saying you're not allowed to use Flash, which is wrong... how can a company tell me what to do?

And companies wonder why piracy and hacking is always here? Why not deliver a product that has everything people want.

Apple care about face rather than usefulness tbh.

Excuse me but however anybody puts it, it's still control. People keep saying that 'don't buy it if you want Flash', now if I opened a club saying nobody but whites are allowed in would people say 'just go elsewhere' NO, it's controlling and me stopping people who want to come into the club.

I'm sick of these idiotic moves that have been allowed recently... first the internet piracy crack down and now this... why should I be told what I can do and where I can do it.

Correct me if I am wrong but am I reading this correctly? You are saying that Internet Piracy should not be stopped?

Are you saying that an artist that writes a song that you enjoy is not worth .99 to $1.29 for your entertainment?

Are you saying that a programmer should just give away his/her apps for free?

Are you saying that a developer should not be paid for the development of software you use to reply in forums?

And finally, are you saying that a writer of a novel should not be paid for the time and hard work spent creating a world for the reader to escape into?

Are you saying that all media should be free and shared to the whole world and that copy-write laws should be trashed just so you can have everything free?

If you are not saying this then I apologize but if you are then I feel very sorry for you, life must be really hard.:(

I'd hate to get your opinion on the fact that an Xbox 360 can't play PS3 games and the other way around. It seems you want a product to do whatever you want and feel the companies should make it to your wishes. Sorry to say it doesn't work that way. If you don't want it, don't buy it... just like Jobs said. It's a pretty simple concept. Judge it and endorse it or move on and stop the whining...

If you want to protect kids then take down all the killing games, not just the porn.

Your tv doesn't play flash games. How dare they? Your xbox doesn't play ps3 software. Oh, the humanity.

So if I want to print a circular full of naked images of women in the local newspaper, it's morally wrong for them to deny me that? This isn't about freedom of speech.

If you can achieve the ownership of a news paper then do what ever you want. You have to get there first, anything else is just some douche talking smack.

Is this a joke? Opting to not support flash is tantamount to racism?!

You should be allowed to steal software?

Buying an iPhone/iPad/mac is a choice. Make up your mind, and move along.

What has Jobs ever done that's so great? Did he create anything, or just promote and sell others work and ignore their motivations?

Say what?

I wonder if Steve Jobs was 20 now what he would think of Apple, not the same jobs that was at the start of Apple.

So you think youthful ignorance is better than aged experience?

What porn apps do you have on your Computer? Please tell me, because, I don't have any.

The way I see it is, we've never needed Porn applications on our computers to see a little porn, so why the hell would we need it on a phone?

This is a good question. Never had a single porn app on any computer I have owned.

Ryan made some good points, while you may not agree with them it's not like his statements were out of left field. How about instead of attacking his character and crying about how he may have offended Steve Jobs and Apple, you should discuss his points and why you think he's wrong.

Which points of his were good? Besides the one where he admits he was drinking?

"And you might care about porn when you have kids..."
An assumption made to belittle Ryan.

No just a statement of fact. Why is every time someone is called out for being ignorant, and they are ignorant about something it is some kind of attack or insult. We are all ignorant about a lot of things.

"You are so misinformed. [...] You're believing erroneous blogger reports."
Belittling the enemy. Ryan is likely very informed on what happened with Jason Chen.

He was misinformed. Check out the documents released and you will see they verify Steve's statement. Which is quite funny by the way since Ryan Tate works for Gawker so you would think he would have a better understanding of the facts in this case.

Gawker is a little too big to be put out of business over something as trivial as Apple losing track of one of their phones and Giz reporting on it.

I am not sure how big you think Gawker is. I suspect a relatively modest legal battle on Apple's part could cause major disruption to Gawker's future existence.

It's never wise to grow complacent and let other people make decisions for you.

It's never wise to be a control freak and feel like you must ever decision over and over and micromanage every thing in your life. It is also not wise to never be able to put any trust in any people or any thing at any time.

Some part of me thinks that this whole conversation was fabricated by Ryan to make Steve Jobs look like a coldhearted "dictator" to try and wipe away some of the "cool factor" Apple has. After all, his place of business is about to get their ass sued off the face of the earth, and that could mean a loss of a job for him.

In the process he just made himself look like a self important *******.

If I was that guy I wouldn't have posted that. Pardon my french, but he got O-W-N-E-D.

He's a journalist. He has an e-mail exchange with Steve Jobs. The world is nosy and wants to read about it. It would be unprofessional not to report it - the story should be more important than his ego. And it was.

What's so hilarious here is that you claim to hate Apple and their iProducts....yet you go and buy their stuff anyway. You do realize that you're rewarding them, right? When you exchange your money for their stuff, you are telling Apple that their product was worth your money. Don't you see the irony here?

I have called the analogy police on you.

A suitable comparison would be if a Night Club did not let you use flash while in their nightclub, or Apple would not let black people use the iPhone and iPad.

Comparing being black and going into a night club with not being able to run flash on an apple mobile device is a non-starter.

Some places don't allow you to take pictures inside. That would be comparable to Apple not allowing flash on their devices. No flash in the club, no flash in the tub, no flash on the hub, no flash for the rub.

It's never wise to be a control freak and feel like you must ever decision over and over and micromanage every thing in your life.
Control over what's on your phone is being a micromanaging control freak? Let's not blow what's at stake out of proportion, bro. :p

It is also not wise to never be able to put any trust in any people or any thing at any time.
Except you're not putting trust in people, you're putting your trust into a company. Never confuse the two.

Correct me if I am wrong but am I reading this correctly? You are saying that Internet Piracy should not be stopped?

Are you saying that an artist that writes a song that you enjoy is not worth .99 to $1.29 for your entertainment?

Nono lol, I do not aree with piracy, but the fact that all bandwidth is now monitored and I'm being told to not use torrents (I do download legally you know). People get wrongly accused.

Are you saying that a programmer should just give away his/her apps for free?

Nono lol :D, programming tools for all platforms should be free and open for anybody to come along and develop. At the end of the day the software that is created is only adding features to their product. They lose no money over it.

Are you saying that a developer should not be paid for the development of software you use to reply in forums?

I'm a coder myself, I mainly code in VB.NET and C++, I do get paid for my work of course but I'm saying that I thought the tools for the Mac were £££, I've never programmed for another platform you see, I've always been Windows based.

And finally, are you saying that a writer of a novel should not be paid for the time and hard work spent creating a world for the reader to escape into?

Nope, all should be paid, my point is that control has gone crazy recently... in the UK we have to pay for a TV license, which we have no choice and costs £££ and if you don't have a license (yes a license for a TV?) you get fined ££££ and go to prison... control?

Are you saying that all media should be free and shared to the whole world and that copy-write laws should be trashed just so you can have everything free?

Nope, controlling who can use the application when everybody needs it (which they do with Flash) is stupid.

If you are not saying this then I apologize but if you are then I feel very sorry for you, life must be really hard.

Solution

Apple should put their own JAILBREAK icon in the settings area of the iPhone/iPad.

It should allow both to be used in every way possible that critics have mentioned. You should also be able to buy Flash created apps through Androids (or anyone's) app store.

You should be able to change operating systems, even load MS Office, etc.

Once clicking the button, you can no longer return, service, repair, or publically review either product. You cannot blog or write about the jailbroken experiences, which may adversely affect Apple's brand.

Although you'd still be able to download software updates, Apple is not authorized to help with any troubleshooting along the way.

Would this make everyone happy?

I thought about this as well when I first saw the article. But I'm pretty sure Ryan and Gawker don't want to add a defamation lawsuit to the mix...

after reading the exchange...

Drunk, inarticulate and poorly thought out jabs aimed at a very slippery character. No contest.

Shame really because there are a few key issues with the App Store that a savvy journo could ask Jobs about. Alas, Gawker & Co., have proven to be anything but.
