Can anyone with more time do the maths, assuming the Screen resolution stays the same, and increase in screen size would mean a reduction in PPI, so the "retina" screen would get a little less retina

isn't the iphone 5 currently 349 PPI or something, wouldn't the increase drop that to 280 something ?

reading and trying to reply to this whilst in a meeting probably not a good idea, but man, this meeting is BOoooooring :(

A bunch of us have already done the math (we only did one :D ) in previous posts, but for your convenience :)

1136x640 @ 4" = ~326 PPI
1136x640 @ 4.3" = ~303 PPI

Cheers, i just wanted a nice easy to read on my tiny iPhone 5 screen summery.

think ill wait for the next iPhone (6 ?) and see what happens, a finger print scanner, slight speed bump, double camera flash and a slightly larger screen are not upgrade reasons.

I always have to wonder why an Apple-hating, Samsung-loving guy such as yourself would spend so much time looking at this site that you have such disdain for. Your previous posts give you away. What do you get out of trolling? Seriously, I meant it. Maybe you need a different, more healthy hobby.

Buuuzzzzzzz WRONG ANSWER! you need to get out more mate and stop judging a book by its cover, reading my SIG may help you see the light in how daft your post is,

WTF? You can't have a difference that big in a S edition. But serious, way to catch up to 2 years ago Apple. But, "We only extended the length, so you didn't have to reach across while using your phone with one hand". What happened to that Apple, I would really appreciate if you stuck to your word...... Oh another few mentions:
"There is no market for smaller tablets", "Introducing iPad Mini!"
"At Apple we have never had any problem stealing products"...."Android is a stolen product, I would be willing to go thermonuclear on this".

The iPhone 5 is currently at 326 PPI (which was just about average for the 2012 market)

And 4S was around the same.

So assuming they go by their pattern, it will still be 326PPI, no matter how big the screen, they would keep the same PPI even if they enlarge, PPI is what matters most. Or even better they bump it up the the standard (441 PPI).

If Apple releases a 4.3" phone:

Fandroid: "But I though 4" was already big enough. I thought any larger and you couldn't operate it one-handed."

AppleFanboy: "iOS 7 introduces new gestures so you don't have to reach the top of the screen to navigate."

Fandroid: "Whatever, fanboy."

You cant keep the PPI, Increase the screen size AND keep the same resolution, as apple are unlikely to change the resolution except by doubling it then the PPI has to reduce when you increase the screen size

So as people much better at maths than me have pointed out, the resolution of such a 4.3 inch screen would fall to 303 PPI or thereabouts

Alternatively,

a 1200x800 display would be 335ppi at 4.3"

..and would be a return to the more usable 3:2 aspect ratio.

(Which could set up an iPad Mini 2 with a 1600x1200 screen at 253ppi)

Jobs imagined a world where people could afford both phones and tablets. A world where he could sell both a phone and a tablet to every person. And in this world, everyone had the optimum device for the task, and thus were the most happy.

But in the real world, people will settle for a suboptimal phone experience and a suboptimal tablet experience in order to spend less money and keep up with less devices.

Neither one makes any sense.

Try the Galaxy S4. The HTC One would also be a good choice. And Motorola is coming out with a new flagship which might be wotrh considering.

Meh, I own the note 2 outright, no reason to sell until right before the note 3 hits (likely October or so), by then prices of the S4 will have dropped some also. If only the iphone had a 4.5" screen that would be a sweet spot I think. Maybe next revision they will make the screen wider and keep the height the same so that developers will only have one dimension to modify again

Maybe the logic boards were controlled leaks to make people think they were for an iPhone 5S but in actual fact they're for the lower cost iPhone. Then Apple would have the opportunity for 'one more thing' when they pull out a 4.3" fingerprint sensing beast of a phone.

4 inch lower cost colour version for the masses
4.3 inch premium version for the rest

edit: Thinking about it a little more, if a new iPhone is coming out with a fingerprint sensor that's not just a speed change - it's a major new feature and something that does not deserve to be lumbered with the 'S' interim releases.

yep, methinks that too
