I feel that.

I’ve tried a few times the 13 Pro, and the ProMotion display is really gorgeous. But the phone is a bit too big and especially, too heavy for me. Still, that screen and refresh rate kept me wondering if I would be able to adapt to such dimensions… Because it looks gorgeous. The telephoto lens is nice to have as well.
Same. I actually got a 13 Pro through a carrier promotion a few months ago, so I’ve had both to use interchangeably.

It’s hard to look at the 13 mini’s display after using the 13 Pro’s ProMotion, and I use the telephoto lens on the Pro all the time — far more than the ultrawide, which is a complete waste of space and cost on both phones as far as I’m concerned. I can easily step backward in most situations when I need a wider photo, but the optical zoom is extremely useful at sporting events and concerts where 3x zoom without a loss of resolution makes a big difference between capturing ant-sized objects versus getting worthwhile photos and videos.

That being said, as I use the 13 Pro to type this right now, it’s uncomfortably heavy and so large that tapping this out one-handed would probably lead to me dropping the phone at least once.

While I’m undoubtedly going to miss the telephoto lens and display, I’m planning to sell the 13 Pro and keep the mini going forward. I figure I can always buy a newer, improved phablet from Apple during any given cycle, whether it’s a 14 Pro, 15 Pro, or whatever lead brick Apple is peddling as their “Pro” phone years from now. But the 13 mini will just continue to show its age over time and I want to enjoy having a convenient, appropriately sized and weighted mobile phone while it’s still relatively modern. I just don’t understand how more people aren’t frustrated with the size and weight of the 6.1” models that are apparently so popular.

If I got an iPhone I'd probably go for a Mini as well. At the same time, the Mini represents only about 3% of iPhone sales in the US, and 5% in China, so that's probably why they dropped it for 2022. But that doesn't mean they won't bring it back—it does have a passionate following among those who like a smaller phone, so it might make sense for Apple to offer it, say, every other year, which would be often enough to keep Mini users up to date, but also save retooling/design costs. If so, perhaps we'll see a iPhone 15 Mini.

I’ve read those reports, too. What I’m saying is: why/how are more people not dissatisfied with all these large, heavy phones, such that the mini didn’t sell better?

I find it absolutely baffling that so many people would actually prefer carrying around a device that barely fits in most pockets, uncomfortably when it does, and is virtually impossible to hold or use one-handed without dropping.

It’s the same body as the 12 and 13, so their Chinese factories and slaves are already ramped up to do it. They could just offer less colors or make less of them to satisfy the SMALLer demand. Every single “tech site” for the past year has confidently professed the mini will get the axe, but Idk they said the Apple Watch 7 would be a flat edger lol.

I don’t get it either. The mini is bigger and heavier than the iPhones I used for many years before suddenly everyone wanted a phablet.

If 13 mini is the end of the road, I’ll just keep buying them used. But you know by ios20 Apple will slow down the software so much that you have to buy something else instead.

Sure, and I'm with you personally. Indeed, I'll often go even further than you—when I'm trail runnning, for instance, I wouldn't even want to carry something as heavy as a Mini; I thus take along a tiny flip phone. And when I'm in the gym, I don't bring a phone at all; just my iPod nano.

But I think what you may not be considering is that each person uses their phone differently. If you're using it mostly as a communications device (voice & text), a smaller device is indeed more functional.

But many do most of their content consumption on their phones (reading websites, watching videos), and also use it to play games. I.e., for them it's more of an entertainment device. And for that usage, a larger screen is more functional.

People might also want a larger phone for work reasons—it's much easier to go through your emails on a larger phone; or they may need to use a work app when they're out in the field that needs either a large phone or an iPad, and by choosing a large phone they're thus reducing the size & weight of what they have to carry.

In summary: à chacun son goût.

I never understood the Ming K cult. The guy is consistently wrong with his predictions, for anyone that’s been paying attention. He’s only correct on minor details or on predictions made within days of product release. His long term predictions have been terrible.

For that reason I do not discount the idea of an iPhone 14 mini

Not to mention that not everybody wants a cheap, small phone full of compromises. That’s already what the current SE is.

I bought a 12 mini and a 13 mini because it had 4x4 MIMO antennas and mmWave support, the same cameras as the regular 13, and the latest hardware. The only things I would’ve wanted — and would’ve gladly paid more for — were the ProMotion display and a 3x optical telephoto lens instead of the 0.5x ultrawide.

I don’t want a small, cheap phone. If I did, I’d just buy the SE. I want the premium flagship phone in a reasonable size, like we used to be able to get with the iPhone 6s and 7. I want the same features as the Pro phone, and I’ll pay Pro/Pro Max prices if that’s what it takes. But without a 14 mini somewhere in the lineup, no iPhone offers that anymore.
I would have gladly paid the same price as this giant 13pro I got now. I had a 12 mini and it was the perfect size. Only reason I didn’t get a 13 mini was that I really missed the telephoto lens.

Just give us a 14 mini pro !!!!

A Verizon salesperson recently told me that the 13 Mini is by far his most returned phone. He said people like it in the store, and they like the idea of a more pocketable phone, but they just don’t stick with it.

I agree, I love my mini. Some of it is the mini has the stigma of “well you couldn’t afford the larger iPhone”. It really depends on what you do. When I'm out and about I'm generally really busy/active and I'm not doing things on my iPhone that would benefit from having that larger screen. I benefit from it being smaller, lighter and being able to do things one handed. When I'm home and would benefit from the larger form factor, I use my iPad instead!

So just from that I'd infer the people who have the larger iPhones aren't as active and can't afford both an iPhone and an iPad! ;)

Nope, an infinitesimal percentage wants the mini size. Why can’t people here accept the truth that mini aficionados are in a very small minority.

Most people, especially those who have and enjoy and want more mini, have “accepted” that truth, oh wise one.

But your mentality of “majority rules!! Get over it! I like what most other people like!!” won’t halt anyone from saying what they want, what they WOULD buy, and “voting” with their wallet.

Apple is a trillion dollar monster corp. they could afford to design and produce twenty iPhone sizes and still turn a profit.

Apple: We want to make all the money so we're going to start shoving ads into iOS

Also Apple: We don't care about selling smaller phones to people who only buy smaller phones. That 5-10% of the market (aka billions of dollars) isn't worth it to us but we're going to shove ads everywhere.
