Earlier this month, Weibo user C Technology (via Wccftech) shared some alleged details about the upcoming successor to the iPhone XS Max, which may or may not be accurate.

The next iPhone XS Max has been pegged as the 2019 iPhone that will feature a triple-lens camera in 2019 by reliable sources, and the Weibo post offers additional details about the lenses. Apple will allegedly use a wide-angle lens, a super wide-angle lens, and a 3x telephoto lens. This would be similar to something like the Huawei P20 Pro, which also offers two wide-angle lenses and a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

The second-generation iPhone XS Max is said to have a 4,000mAh battery, something that seems unlikely because the form factor of the device is not changing. Rumors have suggested Apple's 2019 iPhones will look quite similar to the 2018 lineup, with the exception of changes to the rear camera and perhaps some tweaks to front-facing TrueDepth camera system to make the notch smaller.

We've heard multiple rumors about a smaller notch, a detail also included in the Weibo post.

Other alleged features coming to the iPhone XS Max include 15W wireless fast charging, which would be an increase from the current 7.5W wireless charging speed, and a display with a 90 to 120Hz refresh rate.

Apple uses a 120Hz ProMotion display for the iPad Pro, allowing for a smoother, crisper, more responsive experience, so it's not out of the question.

C Technology has been known for sharing early iPhone information in the past, but the Weibo user aggregates leaks, rumors, and images from multiple sources, some accurate and some inaccurate. For that reason, and because some of this information sounds a bit unlikely, we're not confident about the veracity of these rumors.

We'll need to wait for secondary sources to back up this information before we can confirm its accuracy.

(Thanks, Tim!)

Update: The alleged 2019 iPhone details posted on Weibo appear to be fake and just a rehash of a mobile leaker's iPhone wishlist shared via Twitter on January 10.

120 hz on OLED is rare to non existent. Samsung would have put it in their phones already.

Samsung has no desire to spend more money on the display for higher frame rate, for a while now Apple has used better screens on iPhones than Samsung. LG is selling the
OLED65C8PUA tv which is 120 Hz OLED, but with a price tag to match.

I think there is a 40% chance all these will be characteristic of the 2019 iPhone XS Max successor. If they want to give it higher battery life than the XR they probably need it around 4000 ma/hr, the higher wattage charger to match makes sense. Of course it will be thicker because of those. The 3 cameras has been a rumor for a while and would make the XS max successor more distinguished from the XR successor. Lastly the 120 Htz display makes sense as Apple tries to usually give the best display to iPhones while the iPad already has it. The rarity of OLED 120 Hz is still pretty high, but it is very likely Apple will have the first one on a smartphone weather if it's this year, but they most likely won't next year because of the S generation delaying it to 2021.

And yet we are two years into the notch design and Samsung has yet to copy it in a shipping device (though they will soon). Using your thinking they should have had a notched phone a year before Apple did.

They don't always jump on things first and funnily displays seems to be the main place they don't jump head first even though they manufacture the panels used in the current iPhone X and XS models.

I suspect ProMotion on the iPad exists primarily for the benefit of reducing the latency while writing with the Apple Pencil. I’m somewhat doubtful that it will come to this year’s iPhones due to the OLED displays. Also, refreshing the screen that often cannot be good for battery life which is probably a bigger issue on the iPhone with its smaller battery than the iPad. Would love to be proven wrong though.

ProMotion would be ****ing fantastic. It would be an improvement on the level of going from non-retina to a retina display. Battery life might be the main thing stopping them from going ahead. But it would be totally worth it, with that gestural interface. Would be a truly differentiating feature

There was no need for them to copy the notch design because they implemented the thin bezel aesthetic much better in the Galaxy S8, S9, Note 8 and Note 9 than Apple did in the iPhone X, XS and XR.

Usually Apple shrinks the battery as the components become more power efficient. If they are expanding the battery, maybe they are doing something that is making the iPhone less power efficient. Perhaps they are switching back to LCD or perhaps they are adding an "always-on display" feature.
