why wouldn't it be? I played pure casters in Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion just fine.. I doubt it would change now. It can be tougher at low levels... but its not that hard to do. You really need to stick to a type of class though and not try to be a jack-of-all trades no matter what you want to play. If you want to have a different type of character, play the game again with a different type of character.

This game runs beautifully on a MBP 2011 with the 1gb 6750. So glad I didn't get it on Xbox because of the awfull load times compared to running it on a PC.
I just selected the default medium quality, didn't really dig into the tweaks and settings. No AA and AF though.
I played the game a little more and tried the high setting (again no AA and AF). It runs roughly the same as medium but the object's viewing distance is better. It can get a little sluggish with many grass and trees though (e.g. at the first town)
Looks like someone is working on making a Wineskin port... I don't have the game myself yet, and cannot read Russian 🙂

Anyone running this on a 2010 27" iMac w/ HD4850 512?

Skyrim runs decently on low settings on Windows 7 bootcamp with the Macbook Pro early 2011, 13". Intel HD 3000 384mb is the gfx card.
Just played for about an hour on 27" 2011 iMac i7 6970m 1GB.
Ultra settings @ 2560x1440 with AA and AF turned OFF plays flawlessly (not sure what FPS but seems like 60+). However, turning on AA at native resolution causes some stuttering...still playable but really not worth it, as the AA doesn't add much anyway at that resolution. 1920x1080 with full AA and AF works flawlessly, but not sure why you'd want to play at the lower resolution on a 27" screen. Bottom line, if you were worried about Skyrim performance on your shiny new iMac, do not fear, though you won't be able to max EVERYTHING out without taking a performance hit.
I am noticing some graphical glitches here and there....some of the shadows look downright awful. Not sure if this is the same across the board or if its specific to the 6970m. Not a lot of ways to tweak the shadows out of the box it appears, so hopefully someone figures out a way to tweak them via the INI file or whatever...I remember with Oblivion the game frankly looked better with certain shadows removed entirely.

OK, I've checked the Device Manager, everything is fine there, tried to update the graphics card drivers via Device Manager and they said they were up to date. When I try and update AMD Catalyst it says it cant find the relevant hardware in the machine and the install quits. Windows is completely up to date to.
I'm getting quite annoyed with it all, this mac, for the money, should be running the game like everyone else, and it just isnt and I have no idea why
EDIT: Just tried it again, 15fps on 1440x900 on low detail. Unplayable.

actually, after installation, when you run the game, it detects your hardware spec, then gives you graphic setting. I think that it is more important than just website's data info. in my case, I got ultra setting. it runs great. so far I spent 8 hours. so happy with it.🙂

I'm dying to play this game on my new MBP. Should I buy it for PC and run it with BootCamp, or is there a better way?
Me too, I was going to ask the same thing. I could pick up a copy of Windows at BestBuy and use Boot Camp if it will run on my MBP (see specs in my sig.) Wonder if that will work?

In the last go around, Oblivion, the PC version was far superior to the console version because of add-ons, lots and lots of add-ons that improved game play. These were not available in the console version. I assume the same situation exists with Skyrim.

I'm running it on this system and it's fine. OC'd 4850, 2560x1440, 0xAA, 4xAF, Most settings on high with a couple on medium. I have't bothered with a fps test but it seems to run great.
From what I can tell the 3D engine isn't particularly demanding, more of an upgraded Fallout/Oblivion engine then a Metro style system hammer.

I have the i5 2500 and Radeon 5770, which seems to have held up fairly well in that article. It starts choking on that ultra level, though. I usually wait for the first patch or two, but I may make an exception for this one. I did hear that they had a day 1 patch, though. Figures. 🙂

How much VRAM does your video card have? Min specs are 500MB. My guess is the more than a 50/50 chance the game will run on 240MB, but it would be better if someone confirmed that.

My GPU has 256 MB of VRAM, so it's a relatively low end discrete card. Some google searches tell me that people speculate that Skyrim won't smoothly, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone has tried.

There are now Cider and Wineskin wrappers to play Skyrim so no Windows is required... can find them over at Portingteam.com forums.

I just have to do a trial and error but if anyone has a 2010 Macbook with 2.4Ghz dual core duo, 4GB RAM, NVidia 9400M w/ 256MbVram, Bootcamp running Windows XP, let me know if you can run Skyrim well enough to play. I am dying to play the game.
As for comparisons of the game between Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind, I only saw Walkthroughs of the game on Youtube but from what I see, it is gorgeous and has the standard Bethesda open world gaming concept which is what gives it a huge draw and lots of replayability. Morrowind has a steep learning curve, anyone who ever played it will know what I mean. Oblivion was made easier for people to play with and from I see, Skyrim is streamlined easier too for people to get into it. It makes sense though because as you make it easier, you can get people more interested in the game and from what I can see, a lot of Fallout 3 fans who prob never played the Elder Scrolls games before are now playing Skyrim in droves. I miss however so much the levitation spells and the Mark/Recall spells from Morrowind that makes navigating the terrain so fun back in Morrowind. Since Oblivion, those spells are nixed.
