I followed both of your guides - there's no slowdown for me.

Your sample is way too small to make the statement that every phone has the problem.

Do you see a difference between the videos though?

Oddly, last night the camera app locked up on me for about 10-15 seconds while trying to take vid and pics. Closing the app and re-opening did not work. The camera shutter graphic remained closed. After about 10-15 seconds it finally "unstuck" itself.

Good.

List all the settings you're using and I'll see if I can fix my iPhone. You said you're not having the issue and I want to not have it too. I've already tried restoring as new, so maybe there's a magical combination of settings turned on and off that fix the problem?

It doesn't lag in a traditional sense. The animation just skips when opening certain applications after certain conditions.

Every iPhone 4 running 4.1 does it. You just may not be noticing it.

Try this one.

First quit all your apps from the Multitasking bar so to be sure that we're running the same way.

1. Open Safari
2. Load a web page (I do Apple.com)
3. Press the button on the bottom right (the new tab button)
4. You'll see a your webpage with an (x) in the corner
5. Do not touch anything and press the home button.
6. Open Safari again (the animation should be smooth as butter so far)
7. Turn the iPhone to landscape mode and wait for Safari to turn sidways
8. With your iPhone still sideways, press the home button.
9. Now turn your iPhone back to normal and tap Safari again.
10. This time the animation is just the last half of the normal animation. Safari just pops into place with a short zoom.

Normally, you'll have the homescreen icons flying off the screen at the same time the window smoothly zooms toward you.

If you did my steps correctly, you should see that Safari does a short version of the normal animation and that the first half of the animation (flying icons) is skipped altogether.

I know that you're not likely going to do all of that stuff on a daily basis, it's just an experiment that works for me every single time to produce the bad animation.

You may also notice photos or camera doing this after using the camera.

So please follow my instructions EXACTLY and then tell me what it looks like.

The animation DOES skip on IOS 4.1 and no it did not do it before hand. I specifically noticed it with Safari, Mail and the multi-task bar.

Someone made a poll about it here. Anyone who says it does not happen just does not notice it, as it is the same with all iPhones. I checked with numerous people from various forums and they all noticed it.

That has happened to me 3 times on my 3Gs, and I cannot count the times my cousin told me it happened to her 3G

I'm not ignoring you, but I'm also not going to waste my time doing this, especially for someone who posts come across as very rude.

The problem is, I don't have your phone and you claim to not have the issue. So I'm wondering what sort of configuration your phone has that mine doesn't so that I can attempt to make my iPhone work like yours.

I don't see how that's rude. You're quick to say you don't have issues, but you won't help me out on mine. It's trial and error. Let's try some things together to see if we can find the underlying cause.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Even Apple's own commercial shows the lag when launching Photos.app!!! Hahaha!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeDTJZtFfI0

Watch when he touches Photos.app to open it. THAT'S THE SKIP THAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! It pauses for a split second and then it appears in the front almost instantly. It's supposed to be a fluid motion of icons flying away and the screen zooming forward.

Wow. That's just funny.

I dunno, i don't see it, nor can i replicate it. I have noticed the Camera app skiping on occasion...especially if HDR is set to on but nothing much on the Photo app

I fear that most people don't see it. That's why everyone seems to think their iPhone doesn't have the problem or they can't seem to produce the problem.

I'm quite convinced that it's everyone's iPhone. It will probably be fixed in the next update. There's probably just some memory leak or something that is causing it.

I really wish I could revert back to 4.0.2 but like a bonehead I forgot to save my shsh blob.

Why did you go to 4.1 in the first place? I always wait. I'm waiting even longer, since I'm jailbroke.

It's hard to resist a new update. I was really looking forward to the fixed bluetooth connectivity problems that they said they addressed and found out that it did not fix my bluetooth problems.

I'm pretty bummed out about it.

I pretty much gained nothing by this os update and lost a little fluidness too.

I miss how 4.0.2 looked.

in the least snarky way possible...i'm saying you need to seek professional help.

I just got a new iPhone 4 as I was robbed. I've noticed that whatever I do, the multitasking transition/animation is smooth. I had more than 4 "pages" of apps in the multitasking tray. That's more than 16 apps in the tray total, a few games, Camera.app, Photos.app, Game Center, etc. It was still smooth. I have not restored the OS that came on the phone.

My stolen iPhone 4 was restored a couple of times and it sometimes would have jerky multitasking transitions/animations afterwards.

Maybe now is the time someone told you you need to go outside a bit. I really see no lag in that movie. Maybe if you watched real moving objects, your eyes would spring out of the refreshrate of your iPhone 4's display.

Here's what the correct animation looks like:

Heres what it looks like in Apple's commercial:

If you don't see the difference then either you have bad eyes or I have super eyes. Either way, I know what I see and I know that it didn't happen in 4.0.2.

Believe me, I reverted back to 4.0.2 a couple times already, but I can no longer go back because I didn't save my SHSH blob.

I too can confirm that I see the stutter on my iPhone 4 running 4.1. It is exactly as the video shows, when safari is launched the transition does not scale out the app icons as it should. I can not confirm whether this is hardware or software related as I purchased my phone preloaded with 4.1 and have never seen 4.0.2

To be honest the only reason I can even see this is because I design and work with motion graphics on a daily basis. That being said, it does annoy me.

Finally! Someone with a brain!

I have a feeling that there's not a bug with the animation but some other bug that is affecting the performance of the phone and the animation skip is a side effect of it.

I have already put in a bug report with Apple about it at bugreport.apple.com. This is not the same as leaving feedback. Bug reports go straight to the engineers.

I also sent them detailed information explaining how to reproduce the issue as well as a stackshot (press volume button and home at the same time).

Hopefully this will get resolved. It bugs me that a seamless phone could develope performance issues after only the first feature upgrade.

I'm crossing my fingers that Apple is working on this.

Does anyone else notice that scrolling in general is laggy? Flicking up and down through my email messages especially causes hick-ups. I can also notice this in my contacts menu.

Also when in the mail app selecting a particular inbox or specific message causes similar lag. Its almost as if its trying to load info. Somehow I expected it to be faster?

Can anyone else confirm this or do I actually have defective hardware.

Thanks in advance!

The same thing happens on mine. Scrolling and Mail was smooth on 4.0.2.

4.1 pretty much sucks the fun out of the iPhone 4. I used to feel like I had a super computer in my pocket, but with all the stuttering now, it feels like old tech trying to run new software.

To OP: I tried doing the test you posted on the first page multiple times, and I didn't notice any lag or skip. Sorry to dissapoint. Have you tried killing your battery then doing a full charge?
