Wow, this nonsense just shows how great the iPhone is!!

If you have to pick apart a difference in the animations that causes you to lose 1/100 of a second of your life you need to either start using your phone or basically just get a life. It's not important enough to waste any breath on....

I hate when a new update comes out that promises to fix things (BlueTooth) and it doesn't and then on TOP of THAT, the phone now has jerky animations here and there. It's only the first real update to the iPhone 4 (besides the minor security fixes and bug fixes in 4.0.1 and 4.0.2).

4.1 fixed my Bluetooth for me. I hadn't been able to use it since launch (Motorola H720, Motorlola H710, my in-car BT, and my Jabra Stone). Everyone said I sounded like I was under water.

It's not nonsense. What once was nice and fluid all the time has now changed to some jerkiness here and there. Who wouldn't want it to be smooth especially since the iPhone 4 is perfectly capable of handling the animations.

Does it affect the normal person? No it doesn't. Does it affect me? Absolutely. It just looks bad. They might as well just introduce screen tearing while they're at it because visuals don't matter. Actually, they might as well just make a clunky OS like every phone before the iPhone came out. Looks don't make a difference. While they're at it, they should go back to the low resolution screen because obviously looks aren't important.

My problem with Bluetooth is that once I turn off my car, Bluetooth gets disconnected (that's normal) but when I turn my car back on, the iPhone doesn't connect again automatically (the phone part does but it just won't reconnect to the BT Audio). It's a Pioneer DEH-P7000BT

Just and update. I downloaded the 4.1 ipws from the net and tried to install. It failed halfway through because I had a workaround in my hosts file (pretty common for one reason or another). After taking it out, iTunes downloaded 4.1 again and it installed fine.

Believe it or not the animation issue isn't here with Safari now. Keep in mind this is a fresh install and I HAVE NOT done a restore of my apps contacts ect.

Have you tried this?

Please report your findings straight to Apple here
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Along with the steps to reproduce it. Thanks!

Yup! I already did that. I also went to www.bugreport.apple.com and put in an actual bug report along with the steps to repeat the bug. I gave them a lot of informations, examples and anything they asked for. Don't you worry.

I actually did restore directly through iTunes (instead of downloading the ipsw file from Safari). This is what I did when 4.1 came out because I figured it would be better if it came directly from Apple's servers.

However, I have no restored to 4.1 since iTunes 10.0.1.

I'm scared to try it again. I'm jailbroken now with some cool mods and I don't wanna lose all my work now.

Your post gives me a little hope though because you said that the animation issue isn't there with Safari "now". That makes me believe that you used to have the issue, but now you've restored and the issue is gone.

Do you have any problems with Camera.app and Photos.app opening (same stutter as Safari)?

No issues with either of those. I have not tried to get Safari "stuck" in landscape mode though. So I'm not sure if it will happen after that... Guess I should try it and just do a restore backup.

EDIT: actually after opening camera app, the photo app does the animation issue. I'm just gonna not worry about it until 4.2.

TIME FOR SOME BEERS!

I don't think anything gets "stuck" in landscape mode. You can turn Safari to landscape and then turn it back to portrait before closing and it does the same exact thing.

I'm really hoping that Apple is looking into this issue. Until then, I'll enjoy my iPhone 4 with no multitasking (I don't use it anyway, trust me) and jailbroken with themes.

I also put my signal bars back to the way they were in 4.0. Sweet!

totally with you man, jerky animation on ios 4.1, freaking sucks, cant wait for the full release of ios 4.2, looks fast and promising.

Have you seen 4.2? Is it smooth again like 4.0 was?

This is driving me totally insane and it sucks.

I just made another discovery! Try this:

Open notes.
Turn iPhone sideways until it switches to landscape mode
Go back to homescreen
Open notes again

Animation skips!!! It skips the entire first half of the animation and only shows the very end of the zooming. You will not see your icons smoothly scatter off the screen.

Try it and let me know if yours does the same thing.

Please.

Mine does the same thing. I have to go into the BT menu and touch my Pioneer AVIC-Z120BT to make it connect BT Audio as well. So yes, this is a bug with 4.1, but it's hardly the end of the world... I suppose if you use BT for music a LOT it would be annoying...

By the way. I figured out why the iPhone pauses for a second before returning to the home screen. I was thinking about it and I realized that it pauses because it's waiting to see if it's going to be a double-click on the home button. After you press it once, it waits for another one, but it there isn't one, it just registers a single click.

I just installed the 4.2 beta and yes, it's much smoother and faster than 4.1. Most of the time, animations were choppy and mudded down. Now things are back to moving at the speed they were in 4.0.2.

I downloaded and installed 4.2 GM today and I'm still getting the animation lag.

This sucks! I'm so angry at Apple right now. It was perfect in 4.0-4.0.2 and they screwed it up in 4.1 and it's still screwed up in 4.2GM

Here's what I did:

Open Safari
Load webpage
Turn screen sideways (without orientation lock on)
Hit home button
Open Safari again. Animation lag.
Then every time you open Safari after this will be screwed up until you close it from the multitasking tray.

Same thing happens with Notes, Mail, FaceBook, Contacts etc.

I'm so pissed right now. I put in the bug report a month ago and waited for the big bad 4.2 and it still sucks.

I guess I'll just have to keep orientation lock on 24/7 and make sure I quit my apps frequently.

Wow. Just wow.

What you're seeing is what we in the software game classify as "working as designed"

The fast app switching is returning the app to the forefront of the display (in this case the entire IP4 screen) as quickly as it can (per design). There's no lag or shudder, just a different appearance vs. opening from scratch.

Move along folks, nothing to see here.

You're WRONG. This glitch only happens after you've turned the phone to landscape mode after opening Safari etc. So it's clearly not working as intended, or it would skip the animation every time.

I've found myself noticing it a lot more lately, too. Oh well..

You are correct. It's after you turn the device landscape that makes it start stuttering.

It's not by design. It's a bug and it bugs me a lot. Especially since the OS was so fluent on 4.0.x

I guess I better just get used to this mediocre iOS development from Apple. The iPhone 4 is way powerful enough to handle a launch animation. I saw it in 4.0.

No only that but I've submitted this bug and helped Apple by sending them stackshots and everything. I guess they can't figure out their own software. You gotta wonder what the heck they changed in 4.1 to make the iPhone behave like this.

I don't know whether I'm just fortunate and my phone doesn't have the problem or if the effect is so small it's barely noticeable.

Either way to get "angry" over something like this absolutely laughable.

My iPhone is using iOS 4.1 with modem firmware version 1.59.00 and doesn't stutter when doing what you've listed. Maybe the current modem firmware bug talked about in the Apple support forums has something to do with this.

Is there anyone with 4.1 and 1.59.00 having this issue? I realize this isn't the "Hacks" sub-forum but it may help get to the bottom of this issue which some are experiencing.
