I'm really hoping it comes out on the 28th. I'll be going back go GA for a week, and it would be so sweet to head over to my old store for the release. The only thing that would be better is if somehow I had the money to buy a Mac at the release, on the 28th.

When they did the pre-order for leopard, was it delivered the same day as launch day? Kind of like the iPhone 3GS. I am wondering if I should pre-order when it's available or just go to the apple store to get it on launch day.

Yes, Pre-ordering the OS will get ensure that it gets shipped on launch day. Apple coordinates shipping with FedEX to make sure that it gets shipped and delivered on the same day (you get overnight shipping for free)

Maybe tomorrow?? That would make my weekend. Would love to see it tomorrow the 20th or Friday the 21st. :apple:
No, the page was pulled, you can't order anything. It was just a placeholder for the real page.

EDIT, maybe they can announce it tomorrow for pre-order, but it won't ship tomorrow.

iLife is not released as part of the operating system. iLife is a separate suite of applications that comes preinstalled on computers so it is "free" with all Macs, but it is NOT part of the OS. When the OS is upgraded, or when iLife is upgraded, you must purchase them independently if you wish to upgrade.

So how exactly will you keep the iLife if you do an erase and install option?

It arrived one day early for me (well, a few hours before the official release date). So yea, go ahead and preorder.

Got a quick question.

Probably no one will be able to answer it until it's actually released, but is there anything about the $29 version of SL that will prevent it from being installed on multiple macs, instead of getting the $49 family pack, other than the honor system? :D

Apple always makes it a point, when they can, to make fun of Microsoft's product activation schemes, so my guess is that the discs are identical. Has anyone ever confirmed if this is the case with the single user and family packs of iLife or iWork? Or the family pack of Leopard?

A better deal

Amazon sells iLife09 for $55.49, iWorks09 for $50.49, and Snow Leopard for $29. Total is $134.98. Like Apple, they also sell the Box Set for $169.

I can actually save $34 + the sales tax by buying the packages individually from Amazon.com

maybe Apple won't do a pre-order on this release? perhaps it be a "Oh BTW SL is available NOW!":D

No one knows yet. I think you will be able to use the disc without leopard and they moved the Erase and Install option to disc utility to discourage "upgrading" from Tiger. But really no one knows at this point, or at least no one that would tell us.

more likely they removed it to disc utility to keep someone from accidentally erasing all their documents and such and freaking out cause they haven't been backing anything up

Highly doubtful anything would physically stop you.

But then the package is for people who don't currently have Leopard installed and aren't entitled to the $29 price tag (and need the $129 SKU).

I'm thinking/hoping the box set price will be dropped since the price of the OS dropped (despite what's said in the OP).
