Mine doesn't. In fact, I get paid for them getting to use my money (interest). I meant using the account at like an ATM. Same service, just another way of accessing it.

Banks charging atm access for other banks is a whole different thing.

Some banks charge fees for talking to cashiers for any reason including withdrawing money. That might be what he's referring too.

So what you're saying is that it's your money. So if you want to access it - you should be able to at no charge. And that it's ok for other banks to charge you since you're using YOUR money somewhere else?

Um, no, banks charge me to use other atms because they aren't part of the same network (Ex: Accessing bank of america accounts from a WaMu or something).

With the phone, you aren't accessing a different network at all.

I guess you missed the point of my analogy.

You're access your unlimited data (or in the case of money) on something other than what your T&C was. So you get charged.

ATT charges for tethering. because you will be using your data on another device.

But whatever... those that will justify it will justify it no matter what. Logic and reason don't play into it.

There is DEMAND for tethering at a price. The market has yet to find that price. The black market has found the price the consumer will pay.

It is stealing.Your stealing profits that ATT are asking for in their contract that you signed.

You are just deciding that ATT doesnt deserve that profit for that service because people have justified for what ever reason'

Its really that simple.

The way I see it, AT&T should only charge for tethering if you are on the unlimited plan (and not $20, that is ridiculous.) Tethered computers can and will use more data (bigger downloads, torrenting, etc.) , so they should pay more. (Question for the people who enjoy free tethering in their country: do you guys get unlimited tethering, or do you have data caps?)

However, if you are on the 2 GB plan, AT&T shouldn't care how you use that 2 GB. A music-streaming iPhone user who uses all 2 GB on their phone costs AT&T the same as someone who uses their iPhone's data only occasionally, instead choosing to use that 2 GB on their computer. Data is data. It shouldn't magically increase in cost depending on where it's going.

So in short, if I were to jailbreak and tether, I wouldn't worry about it if I was using my paid 2 GB, or used my "unlimited" data reasonably. I'd only start feeling guilty if I treated the tethering as if it were my ISP.

In Spain we get free tethering and a free data microsim for the ipad if you are already on an iphone plan.

AT&T is the one doing the stealing, even if it's a "legal" since you agree to it.

OK...To the Thread starter & samcraig^^^
I signed a contract 1 year ago for "Unlimited Data" so why is it that those of us who have a legally binding contract for "Unlimited Data" cannot use our phones for tethering? Correct me if I am wrong but "Unlimited" means Unlimited and Tethering Falls under Data Use, but yet we are not eligible for for Data Tethering.

Now most of the people on this forum are kids who use the iPhone as a toy but on the other hand there are those of us who use this device for our businesses of for business use, I am one of the people who uses it for my Business which is computer repair and there are allot of times & situations that my customer's are having issues and cannot get on the internet and have no wireless network set up in their home so using my laptop to access the internet to get drivers or whatever may be needed is not a option without a wireless network & Tethering would solve that issue but once again AT&T is sticking it to their customers despite he fact that we have a Legally Binding Contract for Unlimited Data Use!

Now I spend $11,000.00 a Year Advertising with AT&T for my Business Plus $45.00 Per Month for DSL through AT&T plus $140.00 per month for my iPhone through AT&T and yet that is not enough and they still want to gouge me for a additional $25.00 per month. Funny thing about this is that there is a majority of people who claim that People are ripping off & stealing from AT&T:rolleyes:

I will speak of one particular incident with AT&T just so you know the level of their morality when it concerns money.

When I first started advertising for my Business in the Yelllow Pages I was told the check need to be paid in Charlotte, NC & I live in Wilmington, NC SOME 5hrs away , now do to the negligence of my advertising rep do to her waiting to the last minute with my advertising I was forced to
"A" send the check through Fed Ex Guaranteed Overnight Delivery for $80.00 or hand Deliver it in Person which would Guarantee me without Fail that I would make the Deadline for Payment for My Advertising without the chance of anything going wrong. Seeing how it was a "Certified Check for $11,000.00" I decided I would Deliver it in Person so nothing goes wrong!
Upon Arriving at AT&T in Charlotte, NC I was asked why I didn't just pay the Adverting in Wilmington where I live...HA HA....NICE HUH?

So lets see that's 1 full day 9hrs on the road of my time losing work to do this at $80.00 per hr, wear & tear on my car, $40.00 in gas and lets see there was also the "2" times I cleared my work schedule from 1:00pm onward to work on my advertising page layout with my AT&T sales rep AND SHE NEVER EVEN CALLED thats another 8hrs of lost money that I incurred due to AT&T so whats the balance that AT&T cost me on just on this one incident?

17hrs @ $80.00 per hr = $1360.00 + $40.00 for gas = $1400.00

Now I made a huge issue about this to the Higher Ups in AT&T Corporate explaining in full detail the reasons behind my anger and the extent of COST I incurred do to their Negligence you know what compensation they offered me for all of this....
Here...Wait For It.......Wait For It.. I DO APOLOGIZE MR MCARTHUR FOR YOUR INCONVENIENCE!

That's it, that's all the concern and compensation that I received from AT&T FOR THE $1400.00 they directly cost me due to their negligence!

SO F@CK AT&T!!!!! I HOPE EVERYBODY DOES TO THEM WHAT THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE TO US!!!!

Ya, because we all don't live in a perfect world where things don't go right for us gives us the excuse to act badly. Makes perfect sense.

Obviously, what I stated in my post is true...NO MATTER what anyone else has to say...you will not accept it and pass judgement on all those who do not meet your perfectionistic beliefs.

Therefore, this thread is totally and absolutely useless and I am forced to stop here because if I say anymore about how I feel about your thread, I will be put in time out.

I HIGHLY recommend that this thread be locked before to many more people get upset...this thread is going no where and serves no purpose.

I pay AT&T for UNLIMITED data, therefore I will use it as I choose. If you don't like it, well then don't do it, no one is forcing you to. I will continue to use the UNLIMITED data in whatever way I can.

Kudos to the self-righteous people out there that do no wrong and live in the perfect world. Everyone else is scum to them. Shame on us.

No you pay them for UNLIMITED data on a PHONE. If you want the tethering portion, well thats an extra fee. You know you're more likely to download 20 gigs of porn on a torrent when you are horny and desperate one wednsday night or something along the lines of that. Its just a fact that computers use more average bandwidth than phones.

C'mon, Make the call people, 611 from your phone and say: "I want to enable tethering!"

It's the right thing to do. Your'e not stealing, but you are breaking the rules. Let's all follow the rules and be nice. :)

If I can get an extra $29.95 per month in gift cards lying-cheating-stealing, I'd have to think about it.

Really think about it, for a couple seconds, while I'm thinking that the decimal point needs to move over two places to the right before I'd consider it. ;)

Stealing profits, oh no!

What if the means to get that profit is nothing short of manipulative? Does right and wrong not factor into the equation at all?

Other countries actually protect consumers from this kind of crap. Not here though.

Tell me, if a deli can charge you for the mere act of handing your selection over to you as a separate "handling fee" does that make it right?

You still pay for whatever data you use, no matter what the device you're using is. It makes literally no difference on AT&T's end other than the $20 a month they can suck out of you for NOTHING.

Indeed, on Rogers in Canada any data package over 1GB includes free tethering. I've actually used it a few times because of this, but otherwise I'd never pay for it.

Justify it all you want - if you do that outside of any means set up by your provider - you are stealing.

There's nothing to debate. And it doesn't matter what you THINK you are entitled to. It's against the T&C you signed/agreed to when you started service.

If everyone thought this way, black people would still be property.

But that context is selfishly drenched in a sense of entitlement.

It's not about what you FEEL makes it right, its about what profits they require. They make the deal and you either take it or leave it. The deal is that tethering is locked until you pay a fee and they'll enable the service. They have a reason for it and that is the deal. It's what they need to operate their service.

If everyone thought this way, black people would still be property.

You are seriously going to use THAT as an example?

Ludicrous. But even as ludicrous and asinine as your derivative is - the slave, in your example would be the phone. And ATT isn't telling you what to do with the phone. Your contract is regarding the data.

But that's a completely absurd and horrible analogy and it says a lot about you, no offense really intended, that your mind went THERE as opposed to finding something more appropriate.

OK...To the Thread starter & poster above^^^

Not going to read nor quote everything you wrote.

I heard that because you do a ton of business with ATT, you should be entitled to break one of your contracts by going against their T&C.

A) How would you react if one of YOUR customers did that?

B) Do you realize that not all divisions of ATT are the same? Just because you have advertise with one division doesn't entitle you to something else completely.

Just because I spend a fortune with Pepsi doesn't entitle me to discounted tacos at taco bell.
