is there a way to upgrade to 3.0 on the Touch without losing my playlist and music??

Your playlists and music are on your computer, so once 3.0 is installed and you sync, it will put everything back the way it was. I upgraded my iPhone to 3.0 and everything is just like it was in 2.2.1.

any official word on if this locks us out on the real 3.0 release?

Not that I know of yet. Pretty much why i'm not putting it on my phone just yet. I've put it on my 2G touch, my sisters 1G touch and her iPhone. (she really wanted it) I'm a little ify about putting it on my phone just incase... I at least have it on my touch to mess around with it and get to know it. I can wait till Wednesday to upgrade my phone. I dont think copy and paste and text forwarding is an urgent matter. I've gone 8 months, whats a week?

For me, the GM behaved exactly like an official release, so I'm not really worried. Worse case scenario, the official software will probably be on the interwebz soon. ;)

To be honest, I'm noticing a little more lag than has been described in this thread.

Getting minor hangs opening Safari and Mail, hanging sometimes when typing a text message as well. Also, moving Apps from page to page is hellish laggy. These performance tweaks however, I would expect to be about the only changes when released final.

Highly unlikely, what your forgetting is this is the version all the developers have installed. They not allowed 3.0 final either?

I don't understand the logic there. Why would a firmware release of any kind lock you out of future ones?

Why do people keep thinking this nonsense?

don't you worry about blocking yours when official version will be shown up next week. because the same thing was happened when 2.0 was out. people just download 2.0 GM version. then it turned out official version was the same like GM. so I think that 3.0 GM will be the same as well. so far, I didn't find any significant bugs. only thing it eats more memory. battery life is fine.

We just downloaded the restore file too. Works perfectly! I was dying to try it out to be able to download movies and TV shows!

Now to try copy and paste and everything else. Oh and I already send a text using landscape! YEAHHHHH!!! :D:D:D;););)

is there an official list of all the changed made from 2.2.1 to 3.0? They say there is over 100 but i cant see anywhere near that many.

Wtf!!

I'm using it as well. Really happy with it. Everything seems to be working just like it should, except Visual Voicemail. Fortunately, the phone is the app I use the least.

The Safari improvements are surprising. Not just 'feels snappier', it actually is. :D

When you went to buy an iPod Touch did you pick up the iPhone box by mistake??

Do I dare ask if any has tried this on an unlocked iPhone yet? I'd imagine hitting restore will simply lock the phone up again, what about the upgrade option? Before this has never had an effect?

Anyone been able to set a custom APN yet as well?

Thanks

Z

Wifi?

Is anyone seeing an issue with their wifi reception after going to 3.0? After I upgraded I noticed that my wifi signal strength icon kept fluctuating from weak to strong, even though I was only 6 feet away from the router.

On a seperate issue: So far I'm finding my favorite new feature, that I didn't even know about, is the different scrubbing speed options in the ipod. Really comes in handy when your trying to find a particular spot on a large file (like an audio book).

i LOVE the variable speed scrubbing and the 30 sec back button. my fav new feature has to be the search - and the fact that it can serch email on the server is absoutly fantastic!!!!!

I'm also noticing lag with the stuff you mention. For me, OS 3.0 doesn't feel as snappy as 2.2.1, animations etc are very jumpy.

help!

so my 2G iphone is definitely bricked after trying to install this update. i cannot get it to restore mode at all. i'm bringing it in to the apple store today (i'm on AppleCare), but would they be able to find any evidence of me attempting to update my software with the 3.0 download?

To all with lag issues. Try restoring again with the 3.0 file, then SET UP AS NEW PHONE! Mine was laggy until I did that and now it is fantastic. My phone is a whole new animal.
