People who do this to Apple is what causes spikes in prices. Do you think gum would be really that expensive if people stopped stealing it? Sure, you are a minor portion, but it all adds up inevitably.

You should've manned up and had it professionally cleaned. If you were going to screw someone you should've screwed the insurance companies like Square Trade. They're the biggest fraud out of them all. :)

I still stick to my guns. Its a win-win situation.

Your guns are wrong, which is why you've been able to put together any sort of cogent response to all the arguments people have made against your position. At this point, I suspect you're just trolling.

yea If I was in the OP's situation I would definitely go this route

Well, at least you're able to admit that you have ethical problems. I guess that's a step in the right direction?

Read all my posts, I admit it its wrong.

I did. Multiple have explained why your "win-win" logic is flawed. You've yet to articulate any sort of response to that—hence my supposition that you're just trolling.

I say its wrong, but there isn't an actual affect on anyone.

john123, save your breath. There is no point keep preaching to criminals when in their mind they are not prepared to change their act even though they realize they have been doing wrong.

Sorry Windows&Apple, I don't mean you are a criminal.

Let's be not too serious…. Let's try not to be too judgmental…
I think we are flexible. We can learn..
OP had an issue and asked advices and he considered … he had choices..(I think…some people might disagree with me, but I don't want to be too philosophical...)
He made his own decision.
We all have made our decisions and we are living with those.
OP can learn from this experience.

I don't think great men have lived with all the right decisions :)
We all have the not-so-proud moment. We can learn from...

THis thread can be a great movie or novel which many people can related to..

For that, I thank OP for sharing this intimate experience. And ...being honest about showing his experience…

All returns are sent out and repaired for any damage; case, logic board, CPU, whatever the issue is they'll fix it and sell it as a refurb.

Is this true? I'm wondering not only for this case but in general, esp w/ people running the checkerboard image burn-in tests and returning all of these. If it looks good and checks out, they would just repackage it, dried apple juice and all?

We will know in the coming days/weeks when we start seeing refurb late 2013 rMBP's showing up on the Apple site.

Buyer beware. You may have some extra juice in your Apple. ;)

Nope, ever return is sent out and is set as a refurb or in rare cases (I would assume), spares. I only heard of refurbs, but spares could be a possibility.

This might be a newbie question (I'm a new convert from Windows), but given what I've heard about Apple Care, if you send in a computer for repair, you could theoretically end up getting back one of these refurbs, no? Are we contractually able to get our very own computer back that's sent in for Apple Care?

They'll let you know what they replaced. Personally, I'd ask if there is a possibility of getting a refurb. If there is and its a recent computer, I'd take it. But if you go in 3 years from now and they give me a haswell return, I'm refusing. If they replace my machine, it better be with a recent update.

I dont agree with u. I hate when people think 'company is rich, they can take it'. I am selling stuff in europe and here the tax situation on returns is horrible. They company got to pay the 19% no matter if people returned it or ever paid for it. State only cares about what got billed.. This can become a loss of 4-500 € easily on every fully functional return.

VAT isn't applied to retail accrual? That seems really weird.

Contact your homeowners insurance, see if it covers your computer.

Apple will eventually turn it on and notice the water sensors are tripped and it's full of orange juice residue. I'm sure they'll be happy to contact you about payment for the device you damaged through your own carelessness.

The homeowner's insurance is a good idea. Another is that some credit card companies grant implicit insurance for a certain number of days past purchase.

Man you got to dry it out fully. Setting it on a towel ain't going to much. Prop it on its side and run a blow drier on it from a safe distance for 20 minutes then put it in a large plastic bag with dedicants such as rice underneath it for 24-48 hours.

I poured a beer down the back of my MacBook Air all over the logic board. Force quit it and dried it as above. Works fine now for another year. Except the #9 key. That one doesn't always work.

That isn't a good idea. Apple juice is acidic. I would clean every part with isopropyl before powering it on. Otherwise you would run into long term corrosion.

Please don't hate.

Saying "please don't hate" is really stupid. Just scan the thread for helpful responses and don't bother with the others. You should expect some amount of condescension if you post about unethical behavior. That said this is one reason I don't even keep liquids on the same surface. Why take the chance? Note that if this ever happens again, you cannot just allow acidic liquids to dry out. The internals must be cleaned or you'll experience problems later. I mentioned isopropyl because it's not conductive.

It's in the terms of the AppleCare agreement. That's well within their rights. You may be able to throw enough of a temper-tantrum that they'll give you something newer to make you go away, but that isn't necessarily SOP.

I'll do it if it gets me a new machine, hell, if I can yell at some guy in a Mazda 3 that didn't really do anything to make me mad, I can yell at some college kid in a blue shirt.

Agreed -- I remember people advising (no personal experience luckily) after spilling stuff into a laptop one of the immediate things to do is to deliberately pour high-grade isopropyl to displace the original offending fluid. The remaining isopropyl evaporates quickly, leaving you a clean and dry computer ;)

This thread is absurd. Who would actually think that for just a second, it's ok to even entertain the idea of returning a product that's been damaged by apple juice and seek a full refund ? Being in the 14-day window or not is completely irrelevant. And finally, who really believes that at NO point Apple is gonna contact the former owner when they uncover the disaster during the refurbishing process? Please. This is just complete non-sense. This is the kind of stuff that gets people with legit issues due to tech failure to go through a real hard time with genius associates or sales people for a return/exchange or refund. I would never in a million years have such idea cross my mind in a similar situation. Heck, I'd rather flirt with the tech people to get a discount on the part that needs replacement.

I'm glad I'm able to smile at life instead of spending my days being the moral police of MR.com

People amaze me. :p

:apple:

Ha! I guess I got the virus. :) But let's be honest though - that's completely mental and I totally agree with you on this one. It really shocked me since it's something I never even thought about. I've been worried sick about that around my laptops, that's why I use a stand most of the time when they're on my desk as to avoid a spill directly onto the keyboard if this were to ever happen. And even though I thought about it being a possibility, never such idea crossed my mind. I'm amazed times 2 here. Ha! ;)

Yes, I will re-order. I will never again have a open drink close to my computer ever again. Lesson learned!

Just this time grab a keyboard protector and some more protective gear for your new macbook. I am sure you will not regret it! :)

You do know employees have the right to refuse service? I would've loved for you to come in while I was working at Apple and try that. I would've laughed and walked away.

Kindness in these situations can make magic happen. Yelling and throwing a tantrum won't make an employee fight for you with a manager. In fact it'll do the opposite - and at Apple retail the genius (or any employee as a matter of fact) has the say - not the manager. It's actually part of their training and development - the employee takes control of the situation.

But maybe if you were genuine you'd get your way.

Not so sure if you won't........cover the keyboard and the mac and the whole thermal formula is gone out of the window. Your machine will run hot and its life will shorten!

Yes, but it's "Apple" juice!

Karma's a real beech. I hope your re-ordered rMBP doesn't have a yellowing or IR issue, or the creaking issue. Or the rMBP is stolen when it's being delivered.

I've had apple reps refuse me service when my home bottom became unresponsive. I wanted a new unit because I was within my 14 days and the manager basically walked away. I called Apple care and told them my experience, they sent me a refund and that manager no longer works there.
