Of course it is a bit early to tell.

My normal Usage Time on 7.0 and 7.0.x has been 8 hours, based on measured hours and projecting the Usage Time by calculating: Usage time/ (1- %remaining).

So right now I calculate on 7.1:

Usage time is 3 hours (2 hr 56 min). % battery remaining is 70%

Therefore: 3 hours / (1- 0.7) = 3/ 0.3 = 10 hours.

so my battery life is better on 7.1
Battery drain is not linear!!!
I had 70% with 3 hours of usage and now I have 4hours and 45minutes usage and 24% left.

I almost had 2 hours of usage with 89% left in the early morning hours.

People comparing "Usage" make we want to bang my head against a wall, it's a totally meaningless stat on it's own as 2 hours of "Usage" with the screen on playing games is going to use probably 10x the power then "Usage" with the screen off listening to music.

battery life since update

I'm sure something changed in i the settings since the latest update that's causing it but I'm noticing that the battery is draining much faster and it's taking longer to recharge (as if it's draining while I'm charing... I guess that's possible?)

The only other bug I've noticed is that the camera crashes if I swipe from lock screen to take a picture and then try to preview the image from the image icon. I end up having to re-boot the phone.

(Using Iphone 4S)

It's too early to tell about battery, will need to give it couple more days.

However, today after my first full charge with 7.1 I got slightly less battery, usage was 6 hrs 05 mins, using the phone the same as normal. I was usually at 7 or 7.5 hrs so maybe needs more time to settle in with new iOS. Plus I have a brand new battery from Apple so I thought it would be a bit better but will keep testing.

I have browsed Macrumors with my Air for 20 minutes over wifi and just looked at the battery level. It is still 100%. Impressive, unless something is wrong with my battery gauge.

The battery isn't 100% full, merely showing that. 100-95% has always lasted the longest time. The battery meter isn't linear.

I actually think it got better. And not just a little.

I had a shocker today. I upgraded the iPhone this morning before work. I went in, left it sit on the desk as normal. By lunch time, I usually have about 65% left. Today, it was down to 13% at lunch time. I started looking through settings and turned off the Background App Refresh completely. That was the only thing that appeared to be different. So far, it looks like that may have been my issue.

Ok, we'll see what happens. I spent 30 minutes browsing and 30 minutes on games and I'm at 96%. Tomorrow I plan to watch Netflix for half an hour, listen to music for the same amount afterwards and then browse for another 30 minutes.

Time will tell.

I had similar results today and am going to try the same thing. I have an iphone 5.

With same usage, iOS 7 is worse than 6, regardless of the version or updates. Don't see a noticeable improvement with 7.1 but might need a little more time to make that determination.

How much audio listening? That's unbelievably high for usage without listening to audio.

I don't listen to audio outside of podcasts when I'm in bed or in the car to music where it's plugged in.

What I did do over the weekend was delete a lot of messaging apps. I had 5 messaging apps and I don't trust them to not fetch data.

Apple quotes 10hrs and if someone has a bunch of background crap running I can easily see 5-6hrs depleting the battery.

Absolutely. With iOS6, my iPhone 5 regularly gave me 9 hours of usage. With the same usage patterns on iOS7 I get between 4.5 and 6 hours.
No amount of fresh installs, setting up as a new phone and switching off settings improves matters.

It depends in how new your battery is and if your meter is calibrated. As I said, my projections have been verified by actual measurements. It may be true that yours is not linear, but mine is pretty good.

I had a weird experience today. Updated to 7.1 yesterday on my 5s. Everything seemed normal throughout the day today while at work. Last I remember looking I was around 65% early afternoon. But when I got home around 5, I got the 20% warning. I was surprised but just figured maybe I used it more than I remembered in the afternoon. Then about a half hour later the lock screen said 19% but when I unlocked the phone it jumped down to 11% immediately. A few minutes later it was at 6%. I'll keep an eye and update if it happens again.

That sounds like your battery is going bad....when your battery jumps like that down quickly part of your battery cell is corrupt...keep an eye on that especially when it gets down to 20%, you can also schedule a genius appoint and they can hook your battery to their tester and it will read your battery to see if it's a problem. If you decide to go in don't go in with a full charge, go in with 40% or less charge this way it will read it about the area your having trouble. I had this same exact problem, had it with iOS6 and then with iOS7 so the iOS was not the problem it was the battery, Apple tested mine and it showed battery failure so they replaced it for me while I waited. My battery was 1 yr 4 months old.

I miss the days I could go two days on a full charge and get something like 10 hours of usage and 36 hours of standby and still be at 25%

It's more likely a result of the update. I've found that it frequently takes a full discharge (phone shuts off) and charge up to 100% (actually several hours longer) to re-calibrate the battery and iOS after a major update.

Letting it drain and then charging over night usually gets it back in sync.

If you haven't already, turn on reduce motion. With it off, non-5S phones use a lot of CPU simply displaying the home screen.

It's possible...just advising her/him to keep an eye out give it a couple days and if it continues dropping or shutting down then try a restore if it continues then the battery may be the culprit. The problem with mine is it was shutting down at 10-20% so it was impossible for me to let it drain so I knew the battery was the culprit, not the iOS.

The days when you basically just don't use your phone?

My iPad drops from 100% to 99% after 40 mins of usage with 7.1 compared to 90 mins with 7.0 thru 7.0.6
That is probably one of the least accurate/useful ways of measuring battery life.
