Also, I checked the UK site and it says "Coming IN September" Why put the "In" in there?

So many mysteries. What does it MEAN??!?!?!?!?

Perhaps the English know what grammar is? :p

can anybody justify the extra ~$800 for a refurbed/ebay bought iMac 27" C2D over a 27" cinema display?

id prefer the built in computer... (to match existing i7 imac).

I'm with you, but I can't justify the extra cost for either. If I could I would seriously question the need for the second computer as it is an additional power draw, so I'd be more inclined to purchase the monitorl

And getting a USB extension cable is easy but..... what about the magsafe power cable?

It's not needed for a Mac Pro so just leave the cap on it and ignore it. On the old LED Display they shipped with a cap on the magsafe plug, hopefully the new one will as well.

If you want all the cables to look the same you can buy white USB extension cables from places like Radio Shack for a very reasonable price.

For less than 20 USD you can move the display about 9 feet from the Mac Pro.

I couldn't get a 27" LED display yet even if they were available. I have to wait for a Dual Link DVI to Mini Display port adapter/converter for the 2560x1440 resolution. :(

What would you use the other computer for though? Would you be using it in target display mode? Keep in mind that in target mode it apparently keeps the computer on and awake, and that's not terribly power efficient.

I just don't see why have two.
yes sorry, TDM. the main idea being that i get another computer (can use it for converting videos/folding etc and not effect my actual i7 computer), and still keep the screen in TDM.

from there, when i *finally* have the money to purchase a MacPro i will have 2 perfectly identical, massive and outrageously sexy monitors ready to go :D AND i still can use them as 2 computers if need be :)

thats how it is meant to be... lol

true, but the monitor itself uses quite a lot of power on its own. i measured it one day but cannot remember exactly. something like 80w idle for just the monitor, the computer uses maybe 50% extra when it is idle.

I went to the Apple store today just to drool over the screen on the 27" iMac.

Come on Foxconn! :D

Don't forget that this new display also features an ambient light sensor, so its definitely built for more power savings in mind from the older displays.

Oooh! Looks like they are preparing to roll out the 27" ACD to the store tomorrow?!?!

I wouldn't be surprised if it did. That tweet is correct.

Go check out a customization page on any Macbook on the Apple store now and thats exactly what it says right now. Not sure if that just showed up recently or if its been there since the ACD announcement but I don't think that's a loophole Apple wants to keep live on their store.

So here's hoping for the 27" tomorrow.

OMG It's really happening. Looks like Tuesday will be the big day!

Crossing my fingers that it means they will also start selling the Radeon 5870 Mac Pro Upgrade Kit

5 minutes into tuesday, Cupertino time. Apple store is NOT down. Say again, Apple store is NEGATORY on the offline status. Will update again if situation changes.

i dont think they would take it offline just for that, the webpage is already there for the new screens (apple.com/displays iirc) and the store stuff would be pretty easy. but who knows.

generally the store goes down at about 9pm my time, it is 5pm. give it a few hours ;)

There is no set time for when they do the update to the store, at least no publicly announced set time. They have taken the store down as early as 1am PST, and as late as 9pm PST. Given they have to make changes to more than a single page to list the new displays (any configure to order page), it probably will require the site to go down temporarily.

All we can do is hope that it happens. I also wonder if retail stores will have them available right away. I will probably order online but I am thinking of calling my local store just to be sure I can't pick it up.

This is Macrumors Forum Poster "Ventro" reporting live on location here in front of the Apple Online Store. From what you can see behind me, the store appears to still be open for business, clearly not displaying the famous "We'll be back soon" sticky that marks the imminent arrival of new products to the digital shelves of this perpetually clean electronic store. While this uptime is distressing to our viewers out there hoping for a new Cinema Display and other goodies, rest assured that there are still 20 hours left in Cupertino's Super Tuesday egg timer, and some sources are even suggesting that we could see a return of the mythical wednesday launch. There's only one thing for sure though, and that's that everyone is eager to take home some new aluminum and glass from the big fruit store behind me. Re: So.. No 27" Cinema Displays today??

As expected, it should be available to order in this month. :D
