Well it is only the 14th they have 2 more Tuesdays to go before October.

I'm really surprised by the delay with the this and the new graphics cards.

Add this to the the white iPhone and it seems Apple is taking a good long time to get things out now. Very strange.

I don't find it strange.

Apple is actively monitoring the stock of the 24", and as long as there are people buying them (ie. non-MacRumors users) they'll just wait. They probably expected the stock of 24" to be depleted during September, and that's why that was set as release-month.

I doubt there's any technical or logistical reason for not making the 27" available for sale. But of course Apple don't want a warehouse with 10000 24" display that'll no longer be offered to the public.

There is no reason why they couldn't just keep selling the 24" and 30" until they are out of stock. It is really only on the "config to order" pages that those options might go away or something.

They might pull them from retail stores though, since they only have a certain amount of shelf/storage space.

24" costs $799 => $33 per inch
27" costs $999 => $37 per inch
Now, tell me what's more expensive ;-)

Yes, this guy here is:
30" costs $1799 => $60 per inch

And nobody here is starting considering the Dell U2711?
There's a 20% off offer at DELL which makes it 767 delivered (have to use google shopping to find that price!).
I have to say that this one is more and more tempting... I had some reflection issues with my glossy 13" and past the wow effect I think the glossy display might be annoying at some point...

And nobody here is starting considering the Dell U2711?

I did and it would be the wiser choice since the Dell is technically more than equal to the ACD. On top of that the U2711 is cheaper.

But I still want the ACD.

Damn, I am such a fanboy.

I have had horrible experiences with Dell displays and their support, I will never buy from them again. They basically treated me like crap when I told them my display stopped work (the PSU was dead) even though it was still under warranty. They never shipped me a new one, never did anything at all. On top of it, the display was horribly calibrated, and I would have to clean out the dust every so often because of the crappy design.

I don't care if they are selling a 40 inch display with 4k resolution for $200, I wouldn't buy it.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Dell Cons:
No LED backlighting, horribly bulky casing and ugly stand, no built in speakers, horrible stock calibration, buttons to control stuff is on the front so it's awkward when you need to press them, horrible customer service.

Dell Pros:
More inputs, including HDMI and component, more USB ports, card reader, matte display, cheaper

Yeah, i'll take the Apple one, thanks.

What a fool to ask such a question in macrumor forum :)
Thanks for your pro/cons strictly unbiased ovrlrd ! :rolleyes:

I'd disagree but yeah. I'll take the Apple one too :p

I didn't even list the fact that there is no built in web cam. But I consider that and the magsafe power connector a "bonus" feature really. Built in speakers should be standard with displays of this size though, there is plenty of space for it (especially in the bulky dell).

mmmh might be overkilled by the new DELL U3011 H-IPS 2560x1600.
Whatever choice I will make, upcoming months will be an exciting period.
Does apple technology reduces efficiently the glow issue produced by IPS technology?

I still cant see why someone would pay 1,000.00 for a 27" Monitor that offers NO other input or output options ( HDMI, DVI, VGA, ETC) , thats is completely insane.

I admit, Apple does offer some nice looking monitors ( and i owned a 24" ) but damn, toss in another, what? 100.00? and get a refurb 27" iMac.........

Just insane.........

I just need a nice monitor for my laptop. I personally don't care if it isn't directly compatible with any other style of input. Yeah it is $1000 which isn't cheap, but the other two 27" monitors on the market that have the same resolution are actually MORE expensive. I kind of like the fact that it is optimized for exactly the purpose I am going to use it for.

I was just at Wal-Mart.

There are 55" HD Tv's for sale for $999.

sigh, Apple, you pay for the brand.

Two words: Pixel Density.

Apple is actually less expensive than it's competitors for this niche.

Samsung has a 30" monitor which will do 2560x1600 and it sells for around $1300.

Dell has one too... and it's $1600.

In comparison, the Apple 27" is a bargain.
