Maybe you dont understand business but I do. Apple doesn't give out $250+ free ipods without expecting a bigger return somewhere else down the line. They do it for the free marketing. Do you think they discount iMacs and Macbook Pros because they are trying to promote education in some way???....hell no. They want public locations to be displaying their products. Locations which they can't outright place an ad.

I would bet my net worth that a mobileme subscription giveaway isnt even an option. They would have nothing to gain, so not doing the promotion at all would be more advantageous for them.

Lastly, my sarcastic remark about them giving away a Macbook Pro was just that.... A sarcastic remark to show we can all throw out guesses that dont make sense.

No I understand business pretty well. And you're still missing the point. Its not my argument that Apple will provide mobileme this year but I'm merely stating its a plausible suggestion from the poster you quoted. You obviously know your stuff but you have a lot to learn in terms of your attitude. The sarcastic remark was a stupid remark that wasn't even along the same lines of what the poster was suggesting and once a gain you seemed to have failed to realise that because his suggestion did make sense. I don't think it'll happen but its definitely a legitimate suggestion. That's the end of the matter for me, I've seen some of your other posts and you're pretty rude in what you say so I don't have any interest in talking to you.

Im really thinking about ordering today... I wonder how hard it would be to get the free ipod offer within that 14 day deal if it was to happen,I dont want to talk to a million people to finally get the deal :-/

I know it's tempting to pull the trigger and if you really can't wait then why not go ahead and risk it. On the other hand why not wait for a few days and if it doesn't launch on Tuesday order at that time. Whilst Apple may honour purchases made within 14 days of the promotion commencing it could be a load of hassle to get them to retrospectively process the order. It all depends on how patient / anxious to get your iMac you are but I know where you're coming from.

This years promo could be a free subscription to ICLOUD and Updated Mobile Me instead of an Ipod. So if this is true, the promo would be around june 6th tied in with the WWDC.

Boring, I would personally prefer something substantive than a subscription service.

hmmm, German Apple education store has some trouble loading :) Could be interesting...[UPDATE] or not :(

A week goes by and nothing again. This is sickly disappointing.

One more week to go until WWDC and that means that we'll be finding out news about Lion before a back-to-school promotion starts. I never thought that would happen. At this point, I'm thinking that Apple may not offer a back-to-school promotion this year or if they do, will offer one after Father's day here in the US.

@iMikeT... The promo typically starts late May or early June. Considering it's not June yet, and that WWDC is next Monday, just hang tight.

I got a refurbished imac on 19th May and my 14 day trial period expires soon. I am really happy with the imac and have no issues whatsoever. I have been reading the forums and seems like there will be a back to school education discount announced next week. I do have plans to buy an ipad and if I get a $229 off on the ipad, I would definitely want it.

Do you think I should return my imac and wait till the back to school offer comes out ? Or is there anyway to negotiate with apple to consider adding the rebate so that I can avoid all the trouble :) ?

Either way, I dont believe you can take advantage of the back to school promotion for a refurbished product just as you cant get an education discount for refurbished product.

Do you really think that Apple will announce the promotion during WWDC?

My understanding is that they are silent updates to the website, and not really announced at conferences by Apple. Look to the news and tech sites for when and if it happens, is my recommendation.

I think that most people know that the promotion is a silent update to Apple's site, myself included. You earlier post sounded as if you were certain that Apple was going to announce the promotion during the WWDC keynote. Don't worry though, you wouldn't have been the first person to infer that Apple is going to announce the promotion during a keynote centered on Mac OS X and iOS.

It sucks waiting but for essentially another $200 savings I am waiting. I just can't believe Apple would wait so long especially with Microsoft debuting all these free Xbox commercials and such.

Yes it does. But like I've said before, I have been primarily waiting for the WWDC keynote and news about Lion before going ahead and placing the order for the iMac. At this point, IF Apple does the back-to-school promotion, I think that Apple will make announcement in late June, well after WWDC and well after their current (US) Father's day promotions.

Also, it's not $200 in savings, it's the option to get a free iPod.

The sale of the iPod is a gain, not a savings.

Do you people not know the difference between savings, gains, and losses?

If I apply the "gain" toward my iMac fund, then it's a savings to me.

Actually, I do very well being a CPA by trade. You are just being ridiculous in interpretation. It can be seen either way as the gain is predictable so it is a savings when calculating asset cost.

First you tell me that my interpretation is wrong then you say that you can interpret it anyway you want. Which is it, can you make up your mind?

I'll try to explain this with simple math:

500 = cost of iMac
100 = cost of iPod and maximum iPod rebate

500 + 100 - 100 = 500

No real savings there.

Well, some people are planning on selling their iPod...

Using your math:

500 = cost of iMac
100 = cost of iPod and maximum iPod rebate

500 + 100 - 100 = 500

80 to 100 = sale of iPod

500-80 or 100 = 400-420...

I get what each of you are saying. Also, there is no guaranty how much you might be able to sell the iPod for especially if the market is flooded with them.
