I just realized that father's day is on the 19th. You guys might want to wait until the 21st to see an announcement instead of the 14th before buying the iMac. What's another week at this point?

Apple in the past has run sales concurrently. Although it doesn't hurt to wait. I am also curious why they're breaking the usual BTS cycle dates.

So you hope the richest most powerful computer company in the world charges this person 20 percent for a return. A return that apple created by playing games of secrecy when it came to announcing this years back to school sale.

I wouldn't say they are "playing games of secrecy" at all. You are assuming there will be a BTS promo like in years past. There may be. But a lack of announcement is not playing a game of secrecy.

That said, I think Apple should allow people to add an iPod w/in 14 days just for good PR. However, that is expensive and so is accepting a return that has to be sold as a refurb since it was opened.

You bought it with no back to school deal present, thus you should not be awarded the back to school. Whats to keep a customer from then buying a new mac and returning it every 14 days for a new one then?

Then again, are these people even in school that are waiting and waiting for the BTS promotion?

Hope they hit you up with a restocking fee on stunts like that.

As far as I'm aware they don't do re-stocking fees any more. And what I've been hearing from people talking to apple, if the BTS promo starts within 14 days then they will honour it to save them the hassle of having you return the mac and buying a new one. Makes sense tbh.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I technically am... I take online courses from my local college. I may not be a traditional student, but I'm sure that does not matter.

If you are taking classes, you would be a student. Its just alot of people scam the system using their 10 year old student ID. I see it every time I'm at the Apple Store.

I am an actual college student and I've been waiting for quite some weeks now... My PC will be sold this week, so I really want to order the iMac as soon as possible. I'd really like to benefit from the BTS-promotion so I can buy an iPod classic and give my iPod touch to m mother.

I am ordering mine before the end of the week. I am done with this waiting game and checking the website everyday. If I order it tomorrow night, it will arrive next week which will take me beyond Fathers Day in my return period. That way, if the BTS is announced I can still get my ipod. If it isn't then oh well. I have waited long enough and don't plan to wait another month either way.. Hell, wait much longer and the Macrumors buyers guide is going to state we are mid cycle and to wait for the next update.

Apple knows people are waiting for this promotion so I think they should remain consistent. Either roll out the BTS during the normal period, or state that they don't plan to roll out the BTS this year.

You're not used to Apple's overall secrecy yet?

From a business perspective, it's bad business to pre-announce a planned promotion as it would cannibalize current sales.

If I had to guess, I think it's because some people are still in school and have a couple more weeks to go this semester. If you look through Apple's educational store, they're still promoting the "Last chance to buy a Mac with your student discount" promotion. That's why at this point, I think that IF Apple decides to offer the BTS promotion that they will make any announcement towards the end of the month. School doesn't really start again until late-August through early-September right? So announcing this might make a lot of sense in late-June and throughout July from another perspective. Of course, this is all conjecture on my part.

I see your point. However, they announced the promotion in years past while people were still in school.

were so tired of waiting but..

it will be worth it, specially for the people who need an i0s device (i cant wait to own a retina display product )

Restocking fee still exists, 10% on open box if returned in 14 days. If the box is unopened then no restocking fee

No restocking fees at Apple retail stores. I recently had to return an open box computer and got a full refund.

I hope Apple will at least launch the promo before summer hits, because most students won't wait to buy their new college laptop until school starts... People want to enjoy it during summer!

Sorry all, but is the BTS only available with the education pricing? I know that's probably been covered somewhere in all this but I haven't been able to track it down. An article on appleinsider from last year says it's only available with education discount.

If not I'm ordering tonight!

I was told they have to be on the same receipt.

Are their really that many people in here that ACTUALLY qualify for the student discount? I thought about waiting, but then I remembered that I AM NOT A STUDENT, so I bought an iMac now to enjoy now.
I'm a teacher, so I also qualify. (Also a Phd student, but I'm not sure if that counts....)

I see your point. However, they announced the promotion in years past while people were still in school.

In years past, Apple used to refer to "iOS" as "iPhone OS". They used to refer to a "Mac Pro" as a "PowerMac". They also used to announce a hardware upgrade to the iPhone in June or around WWDC. What does all this have to do with the BTS promotion? Apple changes and moves things around without notice and when ever it is convenient for them. It would be no surprise if they did the same with the BTS promotion.

Of course, but not simply because people are still in school as you or someone else stated. Students were in school in all years past which hasn't changed. Your comparison really doesn't make sense.
