Because that's incredibly inefficient. Let us suppose I have a list of PDF files on my iPhone. I have to first upload them to iCloud Drive and then attach them one by one instead of directly attaching the files on my phone with multiple selection

But it is wrong to state that you can't do it except the process is convoluted
That's probably fair to say. I generally use Dropbox and google drive so it's not something I've noticed as a problem but not denying others may see issues.

What you mentioned is not isolated but actually inherent in the entire o/s. This is one critical downside and greatly impacted user friendliness.

The just goes against convention and really quite illogical. This is one of my greatest peeve when using iPhone.

First stupid: an app cannot open files belonging to another app. You have to make a duplicate copy over from the other app - thus wasting internal storage space.

Second stupid: you cannot duplicate files directly in the phone. You have to copy the files to iDrive first from the other app. Then copy the files back from iDrive to current app. Redundant and slow process and waste a lot of data usage.

The word idiotic is not even strong enough to describe this. So when someone said how iPhone is blah blah easy to use, I don't know whether I want to laugh or cry.

First not true. Second that's a file system mentality and the biggest stumbling block to non-computer savvy users. Somehow, some of the world has moved on with 1 billion idevices out there.

First is mostly true except photos.
The design is stupid in the first place. You can have a file system and yet idiot proof it. So the 6x more Android devices stayed with time tested system and the users have no issues.

So no matter how I look at it apple shortchanged users. You and I know very well what's the actual reason behind that. I hope you don't need me to spell it out for you.

There are loads of zero day vulnerabilities in android. Publicly available sources cite them. And android has many, many red flagged critical vulnerabilities.
.

The source code for Android is open so more people can have a look for vulnerabilities. Faster discovery means things can be rectified earlier before damage is done.

iOS is totally closed so vulnerabilities can fester for a long time for hackers exploit. So no news doesn'tmean good news. Maybe just means a false sense of security.

So basically some hyperbole, got it. Yeah 6x more android, because those manufacturers are giving the phones away.

That's your opinion, which is fine and dandy. This is a public forum sonspell away.:)

Hasn't little to do with the number of critical vulnerabilities.

That means nothing to most people though. Products can be hugely popular in certain markets/countries and not others.

There are many more Androids than iphones out there with a file system. Didn't hear anything apocalyptic happening with them.

You willingly contribute 40 cents of your dollar to someone's pocket. And you are so happy about it. Maybe the tax department should take a cue from apple on how to make shapple.
Do you typically make a purchase decision on the financials of a company? I guess people do care about how much profit a company is making, but not me. I would care more about corporate philosophy than margin. But hey, it's your money spend it how you want and I'll spend my money how I want.

No. I make purchase based on whether a product is worth the money. When one competing product is way more expensive but does less, I tend to buy with rationality.

So I have a hypothesis on what would happen to the average iPhone user who would upgrade to Samsung's latest smartphone, the S8, or S8+.

1. Instant love affair: With It's lack of bezels and curved edges it would be love at first sight. An infatuation of all the features and technology.

2. Amazement with the over-saturated laminated AMOLED screen. The colors and brightness would bring the user to awe and excitement.

3. The wireless charging and waterproofing is so damn cool. Everyone would be idolizing your phone with jealousy.

Here's where things go south...

4. It's been a while and I haven't received any updates. Google just released their newest OS update and Samsung said 2 months ago it's coming soon. But when?

5. I miss hand-off and the Apple ecosystem. The ecosystem is so completely different from my MacBook and iPad. There's no consistency and compatibility with my other devices. None of my Apple app and music purchases work with Android.

6. Samsung just released another flagship phone and I still haven't received the newest OS. There's been a few zero days and I'm kinda worried, but some users on the Android forums says it's coming in the next 6 months...

7. Time to sell my S8, but the re-sale value is so low and no one wants to buy it. If only I had an iPhone I could get probably double.

Haha, a little biased, but I tried my best. This was just a humor post, g'night all...

I have not read the replies to this post, but I'll reply anyway because I have some time to kill.

Disclaimer: I love technology. macOS, windows 10, android, tizen...I have used them all. I give each and every product a fair look, and often a fair trial. The ecosystem lock in is not nearly as big of a deal, if you know how to do a google search, and find solutions. I can integrate macOS, ios, android, and windows 10 easily, and I do. Anyway, here we go, I'll try to be as unbiased as I can be.

1. It is a lovely phone, but nothing ground breaking from the s6 and s7 edge phones. That being said, this is the mature product and it really shows through in looks and use.

2. The screen is gorgeous, just like an OLED tv. Of course, you can change it to a less saturated setting. Its the highest rated screen for a reason.

3. Man the sarcasm is great it, but yes these features are nice. What is better? The USB-c fast charging. That is something you notice on a daily basis.

-Now for the negatives

4. I guess I am one of the few who thinks this through, but this argument got stall a while ago. Why?
-Apple releases minor updates with security and features all year. There is 1 major update on a yearly basis.
-Samsung release minor updates throughout the year, with a monthly security update. Apps updates from Google largely serve as this minor feature updates that apple rollouts throughout the year. Samsung phones, at least the s6 and s7 models, have received their update to Android yearly, around the time of the release of the new next model. This may not be when google roles out the update, but its still a yearly updated, and is similar to what apple does. The only difference is that Google phones get the update before hand, on their own yearly basis.

5. Ecosystem lock in is a minor thing.
-If you use itunes to buy music and movies, and not a streaming service, then you may be correct. Of course, there are several android apps that wireless sync music and movies from itunes. Maybe it just takes a quick google search?
-Hand-off never really hooked me, so I guess I am biased here. Cloud syncing (one drive, etc), chrome tab syncing, email syncing, etc are just as fast for me. But that doesn't mean it is useless. Samsung flow, which works with samsung devices, performs similar functions and will be supporting non-samsung laptops soon. There is also pushbullet, pulse, airdroid, yappy, etc...all these can serve a similar, and in some ways superior, function. I guess its a matter of taste.

6. See argument 4. The only other relevant model would be the Note 8, and the galaxy line gets the relevant updates in a timely fashion, but again see response 4. If you wanted a Note 8, then you should of waited. Also, Apple only releases once a year, so one should be aware of this disparity (if you can call it that).

7. According to Swappa, the average selling price of the 32gb iPhone 7 (unlocked) 7 months after release was ~$530. The average selling price of a unlocked 32gb S7 7 months after launch was $429. I don't know the disparity in the starting price, but I do know the S7, at this point, had underwent several BOGO sells, etc, around the note 7 release. Thus, $100 is not double, and plenty people will buy it...but you would know that if you did any research to back up your biased opinion, right?

I guess I am getting old, and the time I spend on this forum, or obsessing with gadgets as really declined. My world view is not influenced by my peers perception of the technology I use.

MacOS/iOS, Windows 10, Android, etc all work great at this point, and can work together if you have any tech-know-how. I would just advise being happy with their purchase. Because, when the next iPhone comes out, everyone here patiently waiting is going to be in-love and obsessing over their new, "bestest" phone. That phone will technology that is 90% similar to the S8 from march, and will probably have some nice features not found on the S8. But then, the note 8 will be arriving, and so will the Pixel XL. If the iPhone 8 best these phones in "whatever", then you have the S9 just around the corner. It seems to me, it would be best to just enjoy what you have.

I had an iPhone 7 plus and loved it-> then I switched to project fi and had to get a Pixel XL...and I love it.-> Two months later I can get service essentially free on Sprint (great coverage where I live), and I can get the S8+/S8 buy one get one...and guess what? I love the phone, and I love my bill even more.

Also, anymore who complains of lag...I honestly don't believe you, or I don't understand. I see "lag" in windows 10, android, ios, and macOS. The system hides that lag in different ways, but it is present. I don't see any hesitation or freezing on the s8. If you do, maybe you have a bad model. IDK

No. I make purchase based on whether a product is worth the money. When one competing product is way more expensive but does less, I tend to buy with rationality.
I do the same... when there are competing products with various capabilities in different price ranges, I choose the best for me and what does the most for my needs. The payback is often in my time, which I can then use for other purposes. I look at things rationally not in a spec sheet.

I use iCloud Drive and ALL my files from my tablet, MacPro, iphone, and iMac from work are in the cloud.

I have had zero problems sending email with a file attached to anyone.

I am happy with all my files being in the cloud and that I can edit them from wherever and whenever I want. I am a professor and access to all my files is very important to me.

Can I do the same with a PC and Android? Perhaps. But why would I switch given that I have what I need right now? It does not make sense to switch to a Pixel or an S8. Why would I want to start all over again? Why would I want to waste more time and money on a new platform that might or might not work since I need third party apps to achieve similar Apple integration? Who is to say that SideSync will or will not work with the Android phone that I choose to buy? What if the makers of SideSync fail to upgrade the app on the future? Where would that leave me?

The Android fans want to convince Apple users that their choice is better. Why? There is no better. It is better for YOU. Your use case is different than mine. Enjoy what you have and I will enjoy mine.

Android works with both Mac and Windows. iOS doesn't. It's not an issue for you as you use a Mac. And I don't really like cloud services because every time you are in an area with spotty coverage you lose access to the files.

The worst part of it all is that jailbreak iOS has this but how long till a jailbreak is out on iOS 10.3?

I am just putting out information for those who are looking to change but not sure due to certain FUDs about Android/S8 being propagated by apple fans who may only have fleeting knowledge about Android.

I understand where you are coming from. Not trying to change your mine whatsoever. If your life revolves around apple products/users, I'll be happy to tell you to stick with iphone. :) But if someone is not in this situation, moving to Android is pretty simple and painless.

Sidesync is from Samsung. On the phone/tablet side it works with Galaxy only. Desktop can be any.

In the same way others are putting out information to counter "the it must be better due to a filesystem" crowd who may have a limited knowledge of iOS.

With iOS I don't have to install any software to take advantage of the ecosystem.

Nobody is trying to change any minds, just discuss the point of why one might prefer one choice vs the other.

Come on. Is having the ability to connect thumb/portable drive directly to phone or phone show up as usb drive to move files in/out such a useless thing that you have to counter and dismissed it?

So uploading PDF files onto one drive and selecting them one by one to attach them is somehow better than navigating to a folder to attach them all using multi select?

Only if you have a Mac otherwise I need to install a ton of stuff on my computer and use another account to make it iPhone compatible

And you even have to install iTunes to sync. It's a horrible program which I don't even know why Apple hasn't overhauled. Check out the Phone Companion app on Windows 10 and then iTunes. Night and day difference

Well iPhone has some software benefits over Android, specially when it comes to security of the system. But don't let you get fooled because Android getting better and better every year! Sec the hardware with Android is getting better as well! The difference is more of personal preference of what you like or not like! But I stick with iPhone not because I have no apple computer or iPad I just have iPhone 6S+ and Apple Watch ️ because it just work!

Does anyone currently use both devices, ip7 and S8?

I love tech, I love smart phones and seriously considering just using both. I love iMessage for friends and family, especially friends who message me from America who don't use WhatsApp. I enjoy FaceTime too and how well it's just integrated.

However, I also enjoy the super S8 design, features and different approach to customisation.

I'm just not sure about carrying two phones. I've also recently purchased an AW SB with link bracelett and I'm enjoying the watch too at the moment.

I have purchased the S8 but can't stop looking at the display! It's simply stunning, then again, Apple will use OLED from September.

Not sure what to do.

I'm doing the same currently. Bought an s8 to play around with along side my iPhone 7 and said I'd pick one to sell after two weeks. Been using them side by side and I tend to reach for each for different tasks. After realizing I wouldn't be able to choose using them both side by side I tried putting one in a drawer at a time but it didn't last long. I'm thinking I'll he rocking two phones for the foreseeable future. These are the main advantages of each for my use:

Galaxy:
-Size: it's perfect. I have always been an in-between on the regular vs plus iPhones and the s8 gets it right.
- Customization: shouldn't get bored with all you can change on this device.
- Native file system: makes downloading and sending attachments much more streamlined.
- Multitasking: awesome being able to pin a mkbhd video to the top of screen and browse macrumors on bottom.
- Notifications: Notification bar simply crushes app badges.

iPhone 7:
- App/System Polish: While Android apps and os definitely have more capabilities the limitations put in place by Apple make for a smoother and more refined experience.
- Messaging: iMessage, enough said.
- Durability: I have dropped my 7 more times than I can count and it shows no signs of damage, I am fearful the galaxy won't fare so well.
- Security/privacy: Android seems to have ads everywhere after using an iPhone for so long. I know I could use Samsung's browser and what not but I prefer chrome and no ad blocker available. That's their business model though. Makes me appreciate apples dedication to privacy and security though and that their primary business model isnt to extract that data and sell it.
Those are the main ones for now. Overall just glad we have such great options available to choose from. Remember a time not long ago that this wasn't the case. Best of luck in your decision.
