Played with one for a long time but any enthusiasm vanished when I noticed I'd try instinctually 3D Touching and of course nothing would happen.

I'm glad I don't listen to you guys. I'd be convinced my iPhone was crap if I did! lol

You are just over-reacting. I think nobody has said iphone is crap. If you use your phone like millions others - running apps, browsing, media and messaging then the iphone is a great device for doing that. So are all the others mid-range to premium Android phones from Samsung/Huawei/LG/Oppo/google. Each different phone - give or take in certain capabilities. There isn't really such huge disparities between these phones nowadays to the point that you can fault (except nitpick) any of them for not giving satisfactory typical usage.

But android being an open O/S and comes with more capabilities thus allowing for certain tasks to be done simpler/easier. Of course it can also do certain other things which are not possible on iphone. But if you are happy, and survived many years using iphone then no need to fret over it. Just close your eyes, dont be greedy or envious of all nice goodies the s8 has to offer like big gorgeous screen and design, iris/face/pulse scanner, fast+wireless charging, top-notch camera and many functionalities not found in iphone. Do this and you'll feel your iphone is the best phone in this realm. ;)

You're right in the first part. My iPhone does do everything I need to do and a lot I don't with many features unused.

I don't have any envy for other devices. It's a free country, I'd buy them if I felt I was missing out. I just feel pity for people like you that take this so seriously and feel the need to use a condescending tone towards people who don't share your mobile phone choice. It's sad I think. There's a lot more to life than obsessing over features on a phone.

Because those "nitpicky" items make it worth the cost. They cost to value ratio is worth it to me. Btw this is a Samsung thread and I didn't realize Samsungs flagships were half the price of the iPhone.o_O

I am only giving the example of the cheaper phones (not S8 of course) that can meet the minimum "satisfactory" experience. Well, there are some who value having an apple logo on back more than a large big curve screen. It really doesnt matter to me since that's their personal preference.

Sorry...maybe i should have put lots of smileys in the 2nd paragraph of my post. I am not that obsessed. I don't even own an S8. It is just that many apple fans here like to tout the "iphone's eco-system/quality/experience" factor like it is some sort of mythical force that over-powers any measurable performance parameters when comparing iphone with others. Honestly, I am really interested to dissect it to see whether it can be quantified/measured. Or whether it is just some sort of rhetoric/passion/over-sell of the fandom.

Not everybody is an irrational fan of Apple. I think that's more a forum theme. Some people, myself included just prefer iOS. The hardware is secondary, hence why a screen, curves or whatever other marketing buzz themes are not high on the wish list before the actual operating system itself.

I think the long delays in OS updates would drive me nuts. I remember, not long ago, how the Nexus would have updates immediately... then the pixel landed. I enjoy when new updates with new features come out.

I would say if this hypothetical iPhone user had never used Android previously he would be first scratching his head then shaking his head, moaning "what have I done"?
Basic Android is ready to go right out of the box but to get a fuller, more enjoyable and rewarding experience one needs to have some interesting fun and get into it a little deeper. Go to the play store and count how many different launchers there are for your customization enjoyment. At least a hundred. On iPhone? Um... 1. One is all you need of course but to have say 7 set up and ready to go you can have a different experience each and every day of the week just as an example. Android is never boring for sure. I have a couple of android phones as well as my iPhone 7 and when my 7 starts getting stale I switch it up, swap my sim to one of my androids and have some fun as part of my user experience. Having both systems is win/win IMHO. YMMV.
My best iPhone feature IMHO is the size of the device and light weight. I've tried big and found it to be to cumbersome.
Give me a 4.7" flagship android that runs on Verizon and I'd say goodbye to my iphone7. JMO.
HTC M7 was it. But to dated now :(

I just attached a PDF and sent it to a client mid-email thread.

A task so simple that iOS doesn't allow it.

It does allow it, I attach PDF's, Word docs, photos, videos etc in emails on my iPhone daily.

Whether it's a new email or mid thread you can add attachments.

Add attachment>locations>iCloud Drive, google drive, Dropbox >select..

So I've just tried this on my iPhone. You have to first sign into the icloud drive, then go back and forth copying and pasting every file. What a mess.

He would pull his hair for 2 days, get viruses that remind him of windows xp, realize that he will never be comfortable with fingerprint sensor on the back and see that the screen is not all that its cracked up to be. He will then place the SIM card in his iPhone and in the bliss of being rid of the torture completely forget to return the S8. When the S9 comes out he will read about it being all the rage and remember that he didn't return it. When he tries to sell it, he will be furious to learn that his barely used phone barely held its value.

:)

Bunch of hyperbole. What I did say for what I use the iPhone because ya better for my purposes. some things are better or faster than android, some things are equal and there are differences in both platforms. You keep citing ssh as a "huge"difference with respect to multi-tasking. Other people dont care about the under the cover differences.

Are you trying to evade? :p

You are the one who said in your previous post that S8 users only cared about specs on paper and you care more about how it works better on iphone. You bring out a lot about "eco-system" and how great iphone integrates with other IDevices seamlessly and how iphone works better than android in this way.

Well, my example of SideSync burst your illusion of how you think Apple "eco-system" is so super advantageous over S8/Android. In fact Sidesync simplicity but yet more functional shows it maybe a better solution to do integration than your much touted Apple "eco-system" like Continutiy. Plus it is platform independent i.e. you can integrate your phone with PC or mac or tablet (not just apple hardware) thus providing a wider integration than continuity.

btw: where did I keep citing ssh? I am not even the one who brought up ssh. You only see what you want to see with your tinted glass.

You must have mentioned SSH at least two or three times. That aside, my touted ecosystem, consists of my ipads, iphones, apple tv, macbooks and the 200 contacts that I seamlessly share info with secure native apps, communicate with, as well as my business that I support on a daily basis. Quickly easily efficiently. My 6s will have a full 5 years of support. I hate to burst your illusion, as you say, but I don't need platform independent apps, nor could I get my contacts to install them. I don't need functionality like "continuity", I have it. All this with features that will be on the next iphone flagship.

Now, if I'm evading, you're deflecting.:p

Evading again huh? :p

You have ONLY all your over-priced apple hardware (and icloud) which you can integrate and use effectively. I have my diverse hardware (and Microsoft/Google/my company/my personal clouds) that I can integrate/use as well or better than yours.

You still havent answer how your above is better than non-proprietary integrated S8/Mac/PC/tablet combinations? THat's you main theme isnt it, saying apple eco-system is better and S8/Android only has specs on paper to look at. So why dont you for once post something that specifically counters my points (instead of repeating the same fan-dom rhetoric :p ).

5 years support - well good luck running ios15 on device with <= 1Gb ram.

Ugh, this game can be played until the internet runs out of bits.

So if my apple hardware is overpriced, is your operating system a security plagued, bloated, inefficient piece of software? :pWe apply our own biases to everything and yours is fairly clear so let's not discuss 'fan-dom rhetoric' and put a smiley face after it as if it changes the meaning.

The s8 in 5 years, judging from responses here on MR, won't be any better than what you claim an ios15 device running <= 1gb ram; which btw is an impossibility.

You still haven't answered why android is better for me and post something specific instead of general multi-tasking/sd card yada, yada yada....

BTW. I'm an average iphone user and am not "upgrading" (if that's what it's called) to the s8.

I didn't write my posts so they only apply to you. But But you replied to them and disagreed to those advantages of Android I put forward. So in effect you are debating my points in general.

But now you want to say that it must apply to YOU to be valid otherwise not. So who are you that you unilaterally make your personal preference as the topic of this discussion? :p

May I remind you this is a public forum so nothing is absolutely personal about your views. So don't just hide behind yourself and dismissed everything that you don't like or don't apply to you as irrelevant. That's just sound so like blind fanboyism.

there is an expression: "pot calling the kettle black" and it aptly applies here. :p

I certainly won't deny the S8 is an excellent device. I don't know why you have such a problem with people who admit to liking the iPhone though?

You claimed earlier the iPhone was good for the average user, yet constantly slip in digs about it being restrictive, over priced, and sub par in pretty much every way. Then mocking others as being 'biased Apple fans' is a tad ironic in light of your behaviour don't you think?

What did I say that's incorrect?

Is Iphone more expensive than most phones? Yes. Does it have better hardware or can tangibly do much more for price? No.

Can Iphone integrate with non-Apple hardware/software - No.
Is iphone restrictive - Yes (if you are not already locked in)

Is Iphone sub-par? No.
Can average users find it good? Yes

Mock others? Nope. I said "statement sounded like..", doesnt mean I said it is about you.

Do I have problem with people liking Iphone? No.
Do I have problem with saying that S8/Android is inferior as a fact because it doesnt have Apple-like eco-system? Yes. Well, this is debatable and hence my replies.

I wish I hadn't said anything now, I should have left you thinking you couldn't do it.

Because that's incredibly inefficient. Let us suppose I have a list of PDF files on my iPhone. I have to first upload them to iCloud Drive and then attach them one by one instead of directly attaching the files on my phone with multiple selection

But it is wrong to state that you can't do it except the process is convoluted

I have never stated the S8 is inferior to the iPhone generally. It's inferior for my use case though but that is insignificant to anybody else.

Horses for courses here. I'm an average user that tries to spend as little time looking at my phone as possible. I use it for phone, text, emails, social media, and taking photos. It does all those things well and there are plenty of gimmicks on the iPhone that I don't use. I don't sync it with anything other than my watch and tablet either. Different use cases and tastes.
