These new icons look fine but the colors... Ugh they look like my 8 year old daughter colored them in coloring book or something.

Here's to hoping we get some different color schemes.

You realize that when you spout sexist language you lose all credibility, right? You may want to reconsider your choice of words to describe colors. There is nothing inherently feminine or masculine about colors.

"Spout sexist language" pretty strong words...

Having a baby? Pink or blue
Black Friday
Red and blue on a faucet

Guess just some loose associations, maybe take things less literally

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it reported that Ive had handed over design of the icons to a marketing team. Admittedly, I haven't really stayed abreast of iOS rumors.

"Let me try, Boss. I always wanted to design a icon."

(Some of you older folks will get that)

He used "girly" to indicate less than favorable. That is inherently sexist.

Jobs would have nothing to do with a gold phone and ios7 colors. Apple has took an executive look and feel and turned it into a romper room phone.

How can you even post this after this image was posted?

Maybe these will give you a refresher in Apple and its relationship with colours? Under Steve Jobs.

Oh, man, that's really going to date some of us, but I can very much see the iOS icons coming from someone with that kind of aesthetic sense.

Truly I don't begrudge anyone that likes iOS 7. I know that, for a lot of people, the degree of change exhibited far outweighs any faults that they or others might perceive. I personally don't dislike all of it. Some of the UI choices are very refreshing. With some spacing tweaks and a more appropriate design language to the delineating elements, the frosted glass/whitesspace-heavy format could be far more compelling than the skeumorphism of previous iterations.

But to me, as to many others, the icons are atrocious, and I personally have a difficult time in believing that Ive is responsible. Looking back over his work, there are three principles that stand out: simplicity, consistency and proportionality. I see none of those in the icons.

Don't see the word "Girly" anywhere in that post.

Seriously, stop being so sensitive.

It's the title of the entire thread. And I'm not being sensitive. And even if I were, I wouldn't have to stop being sensitive at your behest or anyone else's. One of the principles by which I live my life is to promote justice and equality. Using "girly" as an adjective to describe something one finds distasteful is sexist. I was just pointing that out. Maybe he wasn't aware.

Seriously, what's wrong with learning?

You are being sensitive. And PC. And ridiculous. And wrong.

Women do like different colors then men. Fashion sales show this. You can argue all want, cry all you want, but in the end, the sexes are different. DEAL WITH IT.

No, everybody has different colors that they like.

Sensitive? Nope. Ridiculous? Not even. Wrong? Nope.

You, on the other hand, are making broad generalizations to support your argument. Yes, there are differences between sexes. But you (and the OP) are perpetuating antiquated gender stereotypes based on sex, and I disagree.

Oh rly?

That pesky science must all be sexist right? How about the sales of pink for women versus pink for men?

Mine are based on facts, not broad assumptions based on being politically correct, and then calling everyone who disagrees 'sexist'.

There is nothing sexist about the science or the facts. Describing colors as "girly" is not sexist. Using "girly" as a derogative, like the OP did, is sexist.

Well then manly must be derogative as well right? I hear more women use girly then men.

You people need to stop looking for things to be pissed off about and enjoy life.

This! The OP could have made his point completely clear without the use of the word girly. But instead, he chose to use it as a derogatory descriptor of pastel. I was just pointing that out.

You people? Care to elaborate?

I don't see anyone pissed off. As an aware person, I find the world is a better place when more people are more aware.

Color me confused (no pun intended)...how exactly does a colorful UI mean "girly". The current design trend is bold colors, go outside and look at the latest fashion, phones, and what have you and you'll see the trend. Apple is updating to reflect the latest trends.

So now we've moved from if colors are sexist (By science proving it) to saying 'girly' is sexist? So what exactly makes the word 'girly' sexist?

BaldiMac already explained that to you. Or you could get a dictionary and look up "sexism." And while you're in there, check out the entries on "then" and "than." You'll find they have different meanings as well.

The politically correct definition of sexism? Or the real one? You may find different meanings as well.
