On MS 3209, using BiteSMS, 5 icon dock, 5 icon switcher.

My battery life is fixed.

So now im at

Usage: 1h 27min
Standby: 12h 21min

3G and wifi connected. Down to 79%

I send a total of about 5 texts.. And the phone received a couple emails..

Does this seem normal?

From what I've gotten/seen, that looks pretty good! :)

Well with further watching the battery.. Last night was my second night i left it on overnight without chargining.. and im at these results now

Did like 30-40min Angry birds, texted a lot. No calls, wifi and 3G on all day and pretty much connected the entire time. Did some cydia/app store browsing but didnt download or install anything. Also spent a fair amount of time on fb.

Battery left 32%.

Usage: 4h 3min
Standby: 1day 10hours

Well the phone was just sitting there sent a couple texts..

I had disabled wifi thinking no need for it.. turns out 3G uses more power i believe while locked then if you had a wifi connection.. I turned wifi back on hoping to make it till 5pm today on this 24% without turning other features off.

Im at 24%..

Usage: 4h 19min
Standby 1day 12hours

I'm not sure some of you understand the rated battery life of an iPhone 4 (or any iPhone for that matter).

Here is the rated battery life for an iPhone 4:

Talk Time - 3G 7 hours / EDGE 14 hours
Web Browsing - 3G 6 hours / WiFi 10 hours
Video Playback - 10 hours
Audio Playback - 40 hours
Standby Time - 300 hours

Overnight, after 8 hours, you will lose 2.7% battery (8/300). If you talk for 45 minutes on 3G you'll lose 10.7% (.75/7). These are all approximate numbers, with some days getting better and some getting worse. If you do several of these operations (like talking on 3G and then surfing on 3G), you need to add the losses for each time spent divided by the rating for each operation. The bottom line is if you're around the type of battery loss rated for your phone, you're fine. I normally get from 6-7 hours web browsing on 3G and 10-12 on wifi, however, I never let the battery get to cutting off, so those are approximations, since the battery loss increases the closer you get to 0%.

This^.

My battery life seemed crappy.

Right now I'm at 1:10 of usage, almost all on 3G, 4:10 of standby and at 83%.

Usage - 1.15/7(most conservative) - 16.42%
Standby - 4.15/300 - 1.38%

Total 17.8% loss. I'm at 83% so I'm right on target for the rated life. Now, where the 1:10 of usage came from, that's what I'm worried about.

Oh i didnt know thats how you calculate the stuff..

So currently at 4h 40min usage, 1day 14hours standby

4.6/7 = 65.71%
38/300 = 12.66%

78.36%

im currently left with 20%.. So i guess my battery is fine after all ;)

I've swapped out this file for the earlier one. I have a JB'd 3G which aside from texting I barely use (as you can see) since getting an iPad, but I was having to charge it every day without fail. I was starting to get so paranoid about losing battery life when I was out that I bought a second phone for the glovebox.

Anyway, all seems fixed now..? It's been on for two days now with over 70% still available.
Thanks to the OP. :)

Here's my stats i think my batterys been draining faster after i jailbroke it. I've even been fully draining it and then charging it up every 2-3 weeks.

I might change back down to mobile substrate 3209.Noticed i charged my iphone last night to 100% took it off charge set my alarm had wifi switched on & bluetooth and when i woke up i'd lost 10%. Today ive mainly been texiting a little gaming and a 25 min phone call. I've got BiteSms installed,Sbsettings

Went with the link at the end of the last page for 3209, installed via /tmp. So far so good as far as apps: sbsettings, lockinfo, activator, wb, infinifolders, 5 icon dock, five col. sb, and otherwise all apps still there after reboot. Still suck at doodle jump.

My battery wasn't as bad as I've seen reported, but I did lose a little over an hour of used time from pre-jb. We'll see how it goes.

Finally got a full test period in without any resprings (love that Cydia). Here are my results using 3209:

3209-1.png 3209-2.png

MS 3228 set me around 6hrs20min. to 0% with similar usage patterns.

Related or not, 3209 works great for me (usage/application-wise) and I've got battery life that works for me. Ain't nothin' changing on this phone.

Thanks for the suggestion, Sestemybe.

Update to my stats. I wanted to go to 5% but I need to go out so have to charge. Anyway, I think I would have got to almost 4 days standby, which is 4 times more capacity than before, so once again thanks for the heads up.
I can finally go out for a day without being paranoid about my battery running out.

I don't understand why going back to 3209 seems to be working when saurik himself said that it shouldn't make a difference. I mean I know he's not God or anything, but he did create this stuff so you'd think he would know if rolling back to 3209 would help. He was pretty clear that the problem had to be somewhere else but it seems like a lot of you guys are getting much better battery life since downgrading. Are you sure you're not doing anything different at all other than downgrading to 3209?

I just want to say this was the worst thing I could have done. I used the REPO and downgraded to 3226. Now cydia does not work at all. I have spent the last hour reinstalling everything in cydia with no luck. winterboard says the themes are active, but nothing shows up. SBSettings refuses to work. 6-8 hours of customizing on my phone makes me not a happy camper.

UPDATE: Went into developer mode and reinstalled mobilesubstrate 3228 and themes started working again. Still have to fix my custom lockscreen tho.

developer mode = cydie<manage<settings(touch it and choose developer from popup)<packages

Update: Respringed again and everything seems be back back to normal now.

Absolutely nothing mate, zilch. And the difference is like night and day.
I've had it out with me all day today (after charging to 100% yesterday early evening) using 3G then at a party using wi-fi and plenty of camera and still had 32% battery left when I got home. Like many, I'm apt to take Saurik's word as gospel so I'm at a loss as to how to explain it as I've literally done nothing but swap the file out, expecting nothing but instead getting a usable battery life out of my 3G again - whatever's caused that, I'm happy. :)

Since I was referenced in the above I'll respond as well.

^^^ Everything Tangodown said (except for the party and camera usage heh). Battery life's been markedly improved on 3209. I also absolutely respect Saurik: bar none. I take everything he said in his post here at face value. But I also know making this change has given me more time on my device. Like Tango said,

If a downgrade is really what helped everyone's battery life, I sure hope Saurik fixes whatever is broken in the newer version so that we can stay up to date.
