Installed 3209 and saw an improvement in battery life!

me too, definitely saw a huge improvement...

from 100% to 90% took 3 hours of sporadic use and wifi off...

when using the 3228 mobilesubstrate, that same percentage decrease took less than an hour.

the only problem i have with this version is that skype cant use multitasking.

How do I change the 3209 deb file with a program like Disk Aid on my laptop? I tried adding the apt.saurik.com/debs/ source , but cydia came back with an error. I have the deb file on my laptop, but when I connect my phone and get into it with Disk Aid, I can't find out where the mobile substrate file is to replace it with the older version.

First, "apt.saurik.com/debs/" is not a repo so you cannot add it as a source.

If you are not going to use a terminal program, this is probably the easiest method:

Using DiskAid, create this path:

/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

Note: "/var/root/Media/" already exists.

Copy the "mobilesubstrate_0.9.3209-1_iphoneos-arm.deb" file into the "AutoInstall" directory and reboot your phone twice.

That should do it.

You can install any deb this way.

If you folks want to know when the next new version of Mobile Substrate is available but don't want to see version 0.9.3228-1 in the "Upgrade" list, you will want to make a change in this file:

/private/var/lib/dpkg/status

In this file, find the line that reads:

Version: 0.9.3209-1

Change it to:

Version: 0.9.3228-1

This will make apt (Cydia) think you have 0.9.3228-1 installed. When a newer version is released you will have the option of installing it.

If you want to actually install 0.9.3228-1, just go to:

Cydia --> Manage --> Packages --> Mobile Substrate --> Modify --> Reinstall

Then you will be up to date for real.

nice, I thank you for the tip sir. I was going to do this by skimming the status file, but that would have taken forever lol.

R u sure activator updates to the latest mobile substrate? I had activator a day or two ago and looks like I'm still on 3209 (but I swear battery life has taken a hit).

It was something that got updated a few days ago that brought me back to the latest MS again.. Because before i had the update in Cydia for MS when i downgraded.. After that update which i think was Activator.. i dont have the MS update anymore in cydia..

I didnt do a complete upgrade either, I just do 1 thing at a time.

How does one check if 3209 .deb file is installed.

I have user (graphical use) type of Cydia. How does one change to Developer type.

I tried two methods to install the file but want to be sure it is there.

Thanks for any info.

I SSH into iPhone with WinSCP and found it in Cydia.

If you go in cydia and it shows you have a update for mobile substrate that means you got 3209.. If it says no update that means you alrdy have the newest MS and you didnt install 3209 right..

does this also apply for the iOS 4.1? just jailbroke it on 4.1 and my battery is still ******, i heard the mobile substrate fixes the issue but i still have it. :(

Just moved from my 4.0.1 jailbreak to a 4.1 jailbreak. One of the consequences is the current MobileSubstrate and poor battery once again. I will be moving back to 3209 in the morning, it makes that big of a difference.

can you explain to me how this process will work? so its the 3209 we need? any pros and cons to returning back to that version? its seem confusing, intructions please

I'm having an issue trying to install the deb file on 4.1 everytime i try to install it gives me an code

dkpg: requested operation requires superuser privilege

it didn't do this when i was on 4.0. Could it be 4.1 not letting me downgrade?

Sulbar battery drain issue

I am very OCD about things not working properly. So What's an OCD to do about my new gadget the iPhone 4?

I've systematically went crazy and start to break things down to find the issue,

What I have found is that all iPhone units that report a battery drain is a combination of bug in the software programming and possibly a defective antenna unit.

If you switch cellular data off? There would be no battery drain.
If you delete all programs that have notifications to the, there is no battery drain.

Temporary solution before someone at apple can fix the issue?

Jailbreak (I buy legal apps, but the apps needed are not apple sanctioned)
Install auto3G
Install daemon tools (or delete them manually)
Install multicleaner, so you are sure to close apps that don't need to be on.
Install multiflow, because it's just cool ;)

After all the steps above, standby battery drain is up to a minimum.
Phantom usage is still there but edge usage (from auto3g) saves a lot of battery.

Results?

98%

Usage 26 (all phantom)
Standby 6 hours 38 minutes

But it still doesn't solve the drain when using the phone. For example, when typing this reply, the drain is about 1% per 3-4 minutes, where it should be about 8+ since I'm not actually sending any data.

I hope 4.2 resolves this, or I'm going to apple for a replacement.

Did any one Sucessfully downgraded to 3209 on 4.1? I'm having issue and can't get it install for some reason. Try the autoinstall path but that didn't work also. Any help is appreciated.

I went to 4.1 without any issues. Followed the same procedure I did on 4.0.1 and have the same battery life I did then.

Downgraded to 3209 on jailbroken 4.1 with no issues. copied 3209 to my iphone with iphonebrowser, and installed it with ifile.

I'm shocked that this downgrade is still necessary after what saurik posted in this very thread. I don't understand why some people have the battery drain and some don't either.
