I have a 15" Touch Bar MacBook Pro, and experienced some weirdness with the keyboard initially. The keys seemed to not press with consistent force, and I had a problem specifically with the dash (-) key... sometimes it would not press at all, other times it would enter a dash twice. I was planning to go in to the Apple Store with it, but after a week or so it just kind of resolved itself. My suspicion is that there is some kind of manufacturing kink they have not yet worked out related to how the keys are machined... maybe there is some left over dust or something, who knows. But after a couple weeks of normal use, I'm having zero problems with it and actually have started to like the new keyboard a lot.

Maybe now Apple will see this article or other news outlets will pick up on this. However why publish this so late, it's been going on for quite a while.

Yeah -- just one MORE reason I'm glad I didn't buy one of these. Still happily chugging along with a 2015 Retina Pro, and will revisit this when the next refresh is done.

We've seen quite a large number of these in for service for this issue. The keyboard feels perfectly decent in use, this is just a typical first-gen product issue. Waiting for the next one in November until I upgrade.

So far, I have not had this issue, but I may try to use the machine a bit more. It's for field use, so I haven't given it a thorough workout yet. As for the keyboard itself, I like it. I have always been one who likes a clackety, old school keyboard, and I have owned old ADB keyboards with adapters, Matias Tactile Pros and others for my desktops and laptops. The keyboard on the newer 12" MacBook, I did NOT like at all, especially compared to the tried-and-true chicklet keyboards of recent MBPs. This latest one, though, while seemingly similar, is hugely different in feel. So long as it doesn't experience the issues recounted on this thread, I'm good with it.

The MacBook's with the same Keyboard design also have/had this problem. Seems Apple still hasn't quite fixed it's QC.

My 12" Mac Book's left-side shift key ceased working properly a few months back. Air-blows performed according to Apple's instructions don't help. I actually liked this keyboard better than the old style, until this happened. The condition occurred after only light to moderate use. Also, the same-style keyboard that came with my new 27" iMac pretty much folded up and died altogether as well (multiple dead keys) within a month of purchase. (It's a long way to the Apple store, so I simply bought a new different-brand keyboard rather than warrantying it.) Given that others are having the same problem, I now fear a ghastly repair bill on my 12" followed by another, then another and yet another and another as the failures continue.

Consider me to be waving a red flag, very hard. This bears the distinct aroma of a major issue.

Sssshhhhh !!!

If we keep complaining, Apple might do to the MBP what they did to the MacPro and MacMini!!!!

I just got a 13" ntb the other day. I find the sound the trackpad makes when you "click" it very irritating and also the rattle that the screen makes when you shake the laptop side to side is very un-nerving. If I had this issue too I would likley lose my mind...its a $2000 laptop not $150

Had this problem. Keys would feel spongy / sometimes not work. I believe it was the shift key and some of the letter. Apple replaced my laptop about a month ago.

I can't stand the new keyboard. I've hated it ever since the new MacBook was released. This thread just proves that I was not wrong, haha.

The keyboard in my MacBook Air is absolutely perfect. I still think it's the best computer they've ever made.

I also hate the new click-less trackpad. It just doesn't feel right.

All I want is a MacBook Air with the same keyboard and trackpad, a retina screen, and some higher specs than what I have (2011 model). Been waiting for years and they JUST WON'T DO IT. COME ON, APPLE! I don't like this new crap. The keyboard is garbage (which is now proven).

I agree my 2013 air is the perfect computer minus the screen being so poor. If only they could release the same machine with a better screen they would have a real winner. Oh well, I am still getting used to my 13" ntb but it sure is different than the air which I loved

I have had my MacBook Pro 2016 for just over a month now and I've had the double input issue, thought it was just be getting used to the keyboard, apparently not

I have the MacBook with the first gen keys and I've had a few small issues. Expected them to have been sorted with this revision.

Some of the smaller keys on mine don't register when tapped lightly, like the up and down arrow keys, and some function keys (ntb model). Pretty ****ing annoying because I do not want to get it repaired and lose it for like a week or whatever.
