May I ask what you prefer that you would want the desktop keyboard to use the thinner design despite not needing it for space saving purposes?
The desktop keyboard now feels clumsy. I meanwhile type faster on the MPB than on the desktop keyboard. Space is clearly not an issue. The MPB keyboard just feels a lot better.

Maybe because the keyboard is absolute junk, designed for teenagers who never have to type for extended periods. There was nothing wrong with the keyboard, that's what happens when you fix something that isn't broken. Want a good keyboard? Get a ThinkPad.

Not that I'm against bashing teenagers, but I don't think they are typing less than older people.

Interesting, thanks for the perspective. I don't have the new MacBook but haven't liked it when I play with it.

I don't know, maybe I'm in the minority here, but the 2015 MBP has the perfect feeling keyboard, in my book.
We have a 2015 MBP and I think the keyboard is ok, but I much prefer the one in the 2006 MBP. More travel and there are no gaps between the keys. Makes for easier typing IMO.

I have this. One key on the number row is not always registering a keystroke. Annoying, because I'll have to get back to the store. Not much else to do about it.

2016 MBP is the gift that keeps giving! :D
THANKS! :apple:

Maybe we weren't supposed to notice this high pitched keyboard "feature" until our MacBooks were beeping and booping like computers and Droids in Sci-Fi movies.

All these stories really bother me. It use to be that you bought Apple products because they made good ****. They would cost more (sometimes a lot more) but you knew you'd be spending extra money for a rock solid machine. As some others have pointed out, even though this is a "Gen 1" product after a refresh, there is no excuse for problems like the keyboard breaking not even 5 months after release on a machine that still caries the "I'm not compromising" price. My wife is due for a new computer (she's on a 2011 air that actually still works great) but I'm seriously contemplating moving her back to windows. Our options with apple right now are the grossely underpowered regular macbook or the outlandishly expensive and problem prone pro. No thanks!

My biggest problem is the space bar, which is much much less sensitive. I often look at something I've typed and see 5-6 words joined together without spaces. Very frustrating. I don't know if there's grit getting in those damned low-travel keys but it doesn't feel like it. Sometimes it's worse than others.

I haven't had any of these issues with my 15" Touch Bar MBP, but I think the keyboard is the second-worst Apple keyboard I've used (the worst was the Mac Plus keyboard). The lack of key travel and stiffness of the keys makes it feel like it was designed for robot hands, not human hands requiring proper ergonomics.

For the millionth time, don't buy first generation redesigns from Apple! The first gen unibodies had bad GPUs, the 1st gen retinas had bad screens, and the first gen touch bars have bad keys. First gen iPhone 4 had a bad antenna, 1st gen iPod Nano had a screen that wasn't durable, etc etc...

Apple keeps pushing the boundaries of technology and they do stuff no one has done before. This is all great and all but the first gen products are always the ones where they learn from their mistakes, and then quietly fix those problems in the next generation.

This keyboard has not stood the test of time. Sure they tested it but they didn't have millions of people using them for a decade, there's a huge difference.

W key on my keyboard makes that high pitched sound when the computer gets warm, and to a lesser degree E key as well. It's annoying, but my bigger annoyance are the arrow keys. Left/Right being full height while up/down are half height constantly makes me miss the keys. For me, it was perfect on older keyboards, I could feel easily where each arrow key is without needing to look at them, and I really wish they didn't change this.

I am on my 4th MacBook Pro because of this keyboard. Double keys, stuck keys, etc. It types wonderful though, but the quality is bogus. At work 7/20 had to be replaced, 2 of them twice.

Did buy Apple Care for the first time in my life though!

This is actually the second version the butterfly keyboard. Has Apple ever redesigned a key board as quickly as they did with Butterfly? Should have been a bad sign to everyone right there.

Oh well, I guess now we'll get Butterfly 3.0 next year. Surely that one will finally be worth buying...?
