A growing number of customers who have purchased a 2016 MacBook Pro are running into issues with the keyboard...

Hmm... Old news. I tipped you guys off in Nov of this problem. Had issues 3 days after receiving my tMBP. Apple replaced it. Had to wait 6 weeks for the new one.

Old age advice still holds, don't buy a rev A apple product. The next version will these issues resolved. And not being a smart arse , I've bought my share of Rev A to see the next version improve while I am stuck with issues.

This is one of the reasons why I ended up going from an iPhone 6 to an iPhone 7 a few weeks ago. I thought about simply having the battery in my 6 replaced since it was no longer holding a charge reliably. However, as you said and I've experienced myself too many times -- never buy a Rev A Apple product unless you want your share of headaches. They've always had issues with Rev A products (as most companies that manufacture products do); but I've noticed what seems to be an uptick in those problems with Rev A Apple products in the last 5 years or so.

I was all set to wait another 8 or 9 months for the next iPhone; but the more I hear about the sweeping changes that Apple is likely to make with the next-gen phone, the more I'm glad I went with the predictable iPhone 7. Maybe they'll hit a home run with the redesigned phone and I'll wish I'd hung onto my 6 a little longer. I'm just no longer as confident as I have been in the past that that will be the case.

This is simply unacceptable on such an expensive machine. I feel bad for the affected owners, hopefully some kind of fix or replacements can happen.

Maybe we weren't supposed to notice this high pitched keyboard "feature" until our MacBooks were beeping and booping like computers and Droids in Sci-Fi movies.

R2-D2? If the problem is 'whining' noises, C-3PO is undoubtedly the droid to compare it to... ;)

Edit: listened to the 'high-pitched clicking', it's not really a whine at all is it? And so my joke makes little sense. Oh well. :D

No problems here. Some of my keys do sound different from others, but the tactile feeling and their rates feel the same. I think the outside edge of the keyboard is perhaps closer to the side of the computer hence less of a "hollow" sound of the middle.

It strikes me that so many Mac owners have become so conservative to the extend that they keep playing "it used to be better in the old days". Being a Mac user since 1988, I think everything has become progressively better. I'm on a MBP 13 touchbar after my 2011 MBP was beyond salvage. Try that with any Windows rig. In the mean time, I have had no issues with anything. I like the keyboard (ok, it's a bit loud while typing). All my Adobe CS apps run perfectly and fast. I can edit movies. Fast enough. Stop moaning. This is the Volkswagen Golf GTi in computing. Premium price but it. just. works. And it looks good too.

Want Chinese junk that destroys IBM's once great computer legacy? Get a ThinkPad.

Just where do you think Apple's products are made then?

IBM sold the PC portion - time to let it go. Lenovo's quality is still much higher than most of them out there.

Goodness! This machine, (as beautiful as it is), really has been showing some pretty fundamental problems. Screen, Keyboard, Battery, etc. Yikes!! Is 1st. Generation really an adequate excuse? :(

And to think Apple raised the prices by $400 on an already expensive piece of hardware. Somebody has to pay for all that great engineering.

I got a baseline 2016 MacBook Pro nTB the other day and absolutely love it. Best display on a computer I have ever used. I like the keyboard. I love the trackpad.

Some keys do sound a little different (mostly the ones around the outside are higher pitched and the ones in the middle are deeper and louder) and have maybe a little varying amount of travel but it doesn't really bother me. I like the keyboard a lot.

This is my first MacBook. First computer of my own as well. Ignorance is bliss I guess..!

I have tried other older MacBooks and I didn't really like their keyboards. They felt too slick and kinda wobbly and I would keep missing keys and such. Also the trackpads were good but I dislike them compared to the force touch trackpad on my 2016 MBP. I absolutely love that I can click anywhere on the trackpad, rather than being restricted to the bottom with the diving-board style movement. The click feels very convincing to me and I have no complaints about the sensation there.

It might be easier to start doing stories on what Apple products don't have issues the front page would be pretty slow though.

We've seen quite a large number of these in for service for this issue. The keyboard feels perfectly decent in use, this is just a typical first-gen product issue. Waiting for the next one in November until I upgrade.
On one hand, tech does go through improvements. OTOH, it feels like when a MBP costs this much, it should've been better to begin with?

My keyboard was okay (but noisy as hell) for the first few days. Then the "c" key, the "t" key and the "o" key all started to do the double (or even triple) letter typing thing. After a few weeks they seemed to bed-in, and the problem went away. But then the "t" key stopped travelling when pressed. And now the "i" key has decided to start giving me extra letters occasionally.

All that, and the USB-C ports on the left side seem a bit "slack", while the ones on the right side won't support my monitor without frequent flickering; hard drives have to be plugged in at least twice before they're recognised; sometimes the sound cuts out and won't come back until the computer is restarted.

On the up-side, I'm so glad they were able to shave a few microns off the thickness, and add the worlds most pointless touch-interface

I've had my first generation MacBook for three months now and I still can barely type on the new keyboard. It's frustrating. This was an unnecessary change. I feel bad for Pro users especially because they have to rely on the new keyboard, which is so difficult to type on. I've had other issues with my MacBook, too, that extend beyond the keyboard.

One of my friends purchased a new Pro last month and returned it a week or so later because he couldn't adjust to the new keyboard design.

I'm waiting to see what Microsoft does with the Surface Pro 5. I think it's finally time to jump ship. I've been disappointed in Apple for a while.

Please, please, please be part of the upcoming MacBook Pro twitter campaign. :)

That is where your statement falls short. You are comparing your Apple computer experience to ANY Windows rig.... including some Acer-quality basement dwelling models. Try comparing it to high-end ThinkPads that are comparable in price and specs and see if your statement is still true. ;)

Beware: In the past issues with keyboards in MacBooks, like my kid's, have been due to a faulty battery swelling and distorting the circuit boards....

I actually like the higher pitched sound in the video. Helps me discern if I pushed the button by mistake. But I can see how it would annoy others.

If it's a software problem, why is Apple replacing them? I never did a SMC reset.

Dunno. I mean, I could be wrong, but one thing I noticed when it happened to me is that it wasn't the same in all apps. I had a dead "b" key, but it came back to life when I switched apps. I can't imagine how that could be hardware.

My system actually developed a weird clipboard problem too, so I did an erase and install. I haven't had either problem since, so I'm assuming the Migration Assistant pooched things (dunno why I did it honestly... I've avoided using it ever since it was first introduced!).

Some spongy keys issues here as well. Return key after a few weeks, spacebar after 4 months. Top right side of the spacebar was missing strokes a few days back but fixed after blowing and pressing it hard and repeatedly. I think it's going to be more and more of an issue as time goes by, but it's currently not bad enough for a replacement I think. It'll probably get bad after the standard warranty is up, but I don't feel like dropping $300 on AppleCare cause the keyboard is crap.

What to do.....

Well, Judging by your post, if someone bought a Golf GTI & it always pulled to the right, that would be unnecessary moaning as well. Many people posting here have ongoing, legitimate issues with this keyboard due to keys simply not functioning. Just because you do not, does not give you the right to speak down to them so.
