my original 10.5 IPP has 2 spots. thought it was just me, or something in content, not the screen itself. sad to hear this is a problem that will probably take a lawsuit to get apple to set up and deal with it free or cheap, not 50% of replacement.
I would encourage you to send feedback to Apple on their feedback page and point them to this story and some threads on the subject. I just did, it never hurts to try.

I may end up going the route of filing a claim through my credit card company which offers an extra year of warranty.
When I bought mine last month I also got AppleCare, but now it seems kind of pointless because they’ll just replace it with the same thing with the same problem. At the same time though I don’t want to return it, because this essentially has replaced my laptop outside of the house and does everything I’ve ever dreamed.

My 2017 12.9” iPad Pro suffers from some serious uneven display issues along the left edge (when holding it in portrait mode). It started happening while under warranty, but I misremembered my purchase date (thinking it was the fall, not in the summer), and by the time I was ready to take it in, my 12 months was up. Sigh!

Ok, good one! Will start planning a trip to Amsterdam or Haarlem!

It gets even better, if you buy an expensive "thingy" like a € 3000 MBP, it should work for several years, it breaks down after 2 ½ years, big chance you get it repaired for free, fact is, such an expensive product should last longer than 1 year.

I said 2 years, it's not exactly what has been said, it's an EU directive.
Here's a link with more information, you can also do research yourself, like *searching "1 of 2 jaar garantie"

https://www.consuwijzer.nl/elektronica/garantie/wettelijke-garantieperiode-in-europa

* I hate G so I explicitly say search.

Am on my third 10.5 now and on my second smart keyboard. No stress got replaced for free. Guess I will be on my forth in like 10 month:)

I have this on my iPad Pro 10.5, too.

Unfortunately, probably the only way to get Apple to pay attention is a class-action lawsuit over what is obviously a design defect. Then we can all collect $10 for our troubles, and some team of lawyers can fuel their yachts. It'd be easier if Apple just admitted they screwed up and compensated owners directly; or at least offered exchanges with even refurb modern hardware.

I have a couple of spots too. One about two inches from the home button, another about an inch diagonal from the bottom right side. I also have that clicking noise that some people have had when pressing on certain parts of the screen, although not all the time. Also my battery degraded much faster than other iPads I've owned - it was down to about 84% when I was last able to check before upgrading to iOS12 which removed 3rd party apps ability to check. So while my 10.5" Pro has been one of my favorite Apple devices I've owned, it is also one of my least favorites.

Can confirm. Had a 10.5”, bright spot developed, got it exchanged under AppleCare, new one also developed the problem after a few months.

Tim Cook should acknowledge the issue and stop shamelessly charging customer for a design flaw

Same on my end 2015 ipad pro 12.8.
Not only the spot on said plave but also light band coming from the right side.

Annoying but outside warranty.......i guess

All I want is an acknowledgement and an official repair program, acknowledge that maybe this was quietly taken care of (mine was apparently made this past August so it’s pretty new) or change the production lines so that replacement units no longer can develop this problem.

Ohh man. I have this on my 2017 iPad Pro.

Thought it was only cause I got a 3rd party refurbished one off eBay.

Mines not that noticeable so I decided to just keep it. Also cause I got my 64GB for $399 after coupon.

LOL.

It's indeed dangerous to buy these expensive toys nowadays, you never know what you'll get, just like box of shocolates. Forest G.

Yup. Have the exact same issue on my 10.5” iPad. I took it to the store, genius said he could definitely see it, but they ran a diagnostic that came up clean, so he told me there was nothing to do, as it was out of warranty. I’m still using it, but it’s annoying. First time an apple product has disappointed me this much.

This right here is why there needs to be a repair program, that’s *********. I’m hoping mine never gets it but I have AppleCare to cover against this, although it seems like it’ll just be replaced with another one that’ll do the same thing.

Indeed. I have it on good faith that Santa is bringing me a new 11” iPad this year, so that’s nice, but it’d be nicer if Cook played Santa and gave my wife’s future hand me down iPad a new screen that didn’t suck.

Also now worried about what horrors the new 11” may hold. I didn’t realize before now how widespread the issue was. Sigh.

Apple, sometimes you make it hard to love you.

I have this same problem white spot or whatever you wanna called on my iPad Air 2 really weird huh? I thought Apple fix this already with pro’s but seems not.

No bright spots here, I do on occasion experience screen responsiveness issues on my 12/9" 2019 IPP.

With how flimsy the body is on the 2018s, I wouldn’t be surprised if those do it too. I’m going to wait for the second iteration of the new design.

Glad im not alone with this. Also my batt health is down to 74%. 10.5 bought when released so almost 1,5 years old.

As Apple repairs most of the time end up as replacing your product with a refurb (hence the high cost of “repair”), it’s the rare case where the insurance policy is actually value for money. If someone told me Apple lose money on AppleCare (not saying that they do), I wouldn’t be surprised!

Apple care is part of Apple's services division. Apple has been saying it is very profitable.

Finally I can say: Thanks EU! Got mine covered just after the 1 year Apple warranty ended under the mandatory 2 year EU consumer protection law. Apple Store Genius admitted it was a fault not caused by me, got a new one. Picked it up a few days after and new one isn't showing any signs of this.

But: Apple needs to do something, it's obviously NOT the users fault...

Yeah but what can Apple do in this case? Seems like a design flaw. If they replace these devices, in 1 year they'll have the bright spot again.

Refunds anyone? Getting a new iPad Pro?

Wow, guess I better unload my 12.9 while its not showing the effects of a swelling battery (which all Li batts do with cycles).
