Having the same problem but on my MBP 15" 2015. Out of warranty repair = $650. I can live with it, but it sucks. I'm literally scared of buying another Apple product. Scared of being disappointed again. So I'm keeping my current setup as long as possible an then I don't know what will I do. Maybe I will buy the "cheapest" versions of future Apple products, because I still like the iOS / macOS.

I'm a victim too, the photo doesn't do it justice, it can't be unseen once spotted. I'm still under Apple's limited 1 year warranty. Maybe they'll fix it for free? Let's hope! iPad Pro 10.5 Cellular btw, if they don't fix it, my days of shilling are over!

Apple replaced mine under warranty with no issues. Just make a genius bar appointment.

My 2017 12.9" had a small version of this at the bottom left corner, however the device became defective not long ago and stopped working altogether, after some really bad customer service i wrote an email to Phil Schiller, later receiving a call from Apple executive relations and to cut a long story short, i got a new iPad Pro within a couple of days :D

If anyone is having issues and experiences bad customer service, i recommend sending an email to Tim Cook or Phil Schiller, you will likely get a phone call from the executive relations team who will resolve the issue for you :)
May I just say, Holy Cows.

Just checked my mom's 2017 10.5" iPad Pro and yes the bright spot is there right above the home button like others have posted. She does have it on full brightness all the time and that's really the only way I notice it. Full brightness on a white background.

I also have this problem on my 10.5 Pro. Noticed it this morning, but unfortunately my iPad is out of warranty by a week.

This is why I always thoroughly scrutinize my Apple products a week before the warranty ends, and promptly take it to Apple for a replacement if there is ANYTHING wrong with it. My 10.5” iPad Pro had a defect like that in the upper left corner right in my reading area, so I had it replaced - and the replacement had a similar defect in a similar location (come to think of it, it was a bit to the left of that 2” area above the home button!)

I'm very happy with my 3rd replacement. Getting a new battery after a year of use is a nice side benefit. I wager over half of my Apple devices develop a problem worthy of exchange by the end of a year. And, absolutely, I demand perfection for these things for the $ they cost me!

I wouldn't mind a new 11”, but the bending thing is a defect waiting to happen, I wager.

I had this problem last summer with an iPad Pro (10.5") I'd bought a few months after they were released. Obviously I was still under the original 1-year warranty so no problems, they replaced it. Two of them looked it over and seemed to have no idea why it had happened, but the replacement was perfect and I left happy.

This week I've noticed the same bright spot appearing on this one. It would seem to be a design flaw. I'm afraid, as I'm now out of warranty, they will offer the $450 replacement, which I won't be taking them up on.

Another reason I'm sticking with the none pro line for now. My 10.5 developed it after 4 to 5 months.

My 12.9" iPad Pro, purchased in January 2017, now has 2 bright spots on the display. The first one appeared in October last year. I did some research online and the only thing I could find at the time was related to pressure damage. I knew I had abused the device, but as the iPad was already out of warranty, I didn't think there was anything I could do about it. Then, about a month ago, another spot appeared. I researched again and then came across this post. I visited the Apple Store, they ran the diagnostic, found the hardware defect and asked for $599 to replace the device out of warranty. I made a claim with my Credit Card Company, but I was a few days out from their warranty also. I really expected a device costing over $1,000 to be good for more than 19 months. As a very loyal Apple customer of many years, having spent 10's of thousands of dollars with them, right now I am feeling very cheated and upset that they are not accepting any responsibility for, what is obviously, a very widespread quality issue.

I just had an extensive chat conversation with a senior Apple advisor. He advised me that Apple aren't aware of this issue. Maybe I'm being naive, but I believed him. I offered to send him links to all the articles I've found online, but he told me that unless iPad customers tell them directly, they won't pick it up and do anything about it. I know that many people here have visited the Apple Store, so I can only think this information isn't being filtered through. He advised me to go here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/ and leave feedback on my experience. I'm certainly going to do that, and hope that others reading this will do the same. If they're not interested in the information on these forums, our noise won't be heard and nothing will ever be done.

The guarantee covers the new one as well if the replacement isn't older than a year. I'm on my third 10.5:)

I blame the outdated Home button, I dunno about the rest of you!

Guess I better stick with my iPad 4th gen 9"
Likely, since if you press the button a bit harder you can see the screen change colour. Looking forward to my 4th 10.5 in 4 month, haha:)

lol my gramma bought me a new iPad Pro for getting into med school.
the 32-bit problem is solved

I have the exact same issue. It’s started getting pretty noticeable recently and I was worried I had somehow damaged my screen. I’m super careful with it and have always had it in a case and had a screen protector on it. I’m so disappointed that it’s a defect that didn’t become obvious until now. I at least know I’m not alone. I’m pretty upset, like I’m sure you guys are that after buying a maxed out model with all the bells and whistles and its best attribute ends up being a lemon. I hope apple does the right thing and offers a replacement program for those who are effected and care enough to act on it.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am certain Apple knows about this. How can it not, they record every issue we have if we request help from stores. I have provided feedback and also shared this link it.

I don't know if anything will be done though.

I discovered this issue on my 18 month old 10.5 (bought Sep 2017). So out of warranty. However I filed a claim with American Express under their extended warranty program. They said go get a repair estimate.

I went to the Apple Store, they agreed no issue with physical damage and they would have replaced it if it were under warranty, and said it wasn't worth replacing given the cost - $489 with tax. I said yeah but, I have insurance coverage. They sent me an emailed service estimate & work authorization and gave me a refurbished iPad on the spot, fresh out of the box. I submitted the receipts to AmEx and a couple days later, they credited my card for the cost. Just another story in my experience of great customer service from American Express - and I'm just a lowly Blue Cash Everyday cardmember, no annual fees paid here! :)

All that said - warranty on the replacement unit is 90 days. If the issue shows up again, not sure if AmEx would reimburse another replacement under their policies (and it might not even be available at that point). Def seems like a design flaw that's now moot (unless it shows up on the new iPad Air...) Guess I'll find out, have created a reminder to check out the refurb display just before 90 days are up...

+1. Two spots. I think another is developing.
Super frustrating.

I don’t think I can buy new from Apple anymore.
Everything must go through at least! a year in other’s hands.
I’ve been burned 3 times now. 2011 GPU paperweight, 10.5 bright spots and butterfly keyboard.

It certainly seems best to be a lagging customer. Not exclusive to what we think of as tech - cars for example are best avoided in the launch year... And it makes sense when you think about it. A new design is inherently untested in the real world, with its diversity of conditions and multitude of experiences...

My replacement (October 2018) is now showing the same thing. Just crossed the 2 year EU consumer protection period and of course Apple is refusing to help. Very annoying. I was recently thinking about upgrading to the 11in iPad Pro, but in this case no way. As much as I love Apple, but this really is disgusting behaviour for loyal customers. I've gone through two iPads in two years. These damn things should last longer than that, especially when I'm paying upwards of 1000€ for these devices...

You might be able to tell... I'm extremely frustrated with the whole situation.

I have the exact same problem but on the 1ST GEN iPad Pro. All these years I thought I was alone.

my iPad Pro 12.9 1st Gen has the exact Dane white spot at the same place. I was never rough to it.

how to check the x-ray of the chassis, it’s actually the most empty spot in the iPad. Was this the reason?
